Title: APAT WCOAP Results at DTD
Post by: TightEnd on March 29, 2013, 10:36:19 AM
Twenty year old Kieran Plater from Walsall has won the first event of the 2013 APAT World Chmpionship of Amateur Poker at Dusk Till Dawn, the WCOAP Stud Championship. Kieran, the youngest player in the field, beat 42 other competitiors to take down the first prize of over £700, plus the APAT Gold Medal and WCOAP Bracelet.

This represents a notable double at DTD for the talented young player, after he finalled the £500,000 GTD Deepstack in Nottingham in 2012 for £12,000. Kieran, taught the game at a young age by his poker-playing Dad Ian, is now a mixed games specialist and is certainly a name to watch.

Kieran beat Vikrum Mehta from Hertfordshire to the title. This is Vikrum's fourth APAT event cash and follows his £25,000 DTD Deepstack second place cash at the beginning of 2013. Adam Sharples from Chester finished third and completed the medal positions.

The full final table result was as follows:

On another busy Day at the APAT WCOAP at Dusk Till Dawn three Bracelet events were concluded.

At the end of the two day twelve WCOAP £100 per player Team event England beat Italy in the final stage, the Heads Up Matches to secure the title. England, captained by APAT National Champion Steve Redfern and with a team also comprising double APAT Champion Carl Pilgrim, Stuart Ward, Asa McGrath and Tony Trippier, had secured a commanding lead on the first of the two days over a series of Hold Em and Pot Limit Omaha Sit and Go formats. Although Day Two saw the points haul tail off towards the end of the Day, they had done enough to secure a place in the title match against the Italian Team who had overtaken England in the points standings in the final round of Matches. Italy, finishing second had the consolation of knowing they had the top individual points scorer in Captain Luca Canella who won three of his five matches and was second in another.

In the Bronze Medal play off Team Canada defeated Team Spain to close out the medal positions. Amongst the other teams Portugal started well on Day One and lay second after the first phases of play. Sadly they faded out of the top four. The event saw the debut of Team Malaysia, a young team who impressed observers with their excellent play throughout.

In individual events, Day Two of the WCOAP saw two tournaments play out. The APAT WCOAP Six Max attracted a record field for an APAT side event, 211 runners creating a £10,550 prize pool. After thirteen hours play, and a six hour final table that saw dramatic fluctuations in chip stacks Angus Robertson beat Ross Freeman to the bracelet with Suhail Elorfi finishing third. Robertson won £2,100 for his victory and added value of an ISPT Day One seat.

The final table result was as follows:

1    Angus Macdonald    £2,788.85
2    Ross Freeman    £1,611.55
3    Suhail Elorfi    £965.00
4    Malachi Wizzard    £675.50
5    Mark Curwen    £530.75
6    Karl West    £434.25
7    Sophie Stynes    £386.00

The £250 buy in APAT High Roller attracted 53 players including a WSOP bracelet winner in Lawrence Gosney and many regular UK poker festival circuit players. The winner was the 2012 WPT Marbella runner up Peter Linton, a DTD regular who beat Alistair Carins to the title and won £4,372.

The final table result was as follows

1    Peter Linton    £4,372.50
2    Alistair Carins    £2,782.50
3    Nick Secker    £1,855.00
4    Anonymous    £1,325.00
5    Frank Flanagan    £927.50
6    Neil Dobney    £795.00
7    Peter Wigglesworth    £662.50
8    Andrew Overton    £530.00

The third day of the five day APAT WCOAP festival saw another two bracelets awarded, and the first Day One of the Main Event

In the Main Event Day 1a, 239 players took to the felt and by the close only 33 remained led by DTD regular from Scunthorpe, Natalia Breviglieri

The chip leaders:

Natalia Breviglieri          306000
Ryunosuke Mason-brown    242800
Jean-michel Ballocchi       19870

The last WCOAP Main Event, won by Dave "NoShoes" Garden, attracted 462 runners and the field by the close of entries on Sunday's Day 1b looks to eclipse that record-breaking field.

Saturday's side event saw the APAT WCOAP HORSE Championship, always a popular inclusion on the schedule, with mixed game devotees enjoying the range of games on offer. 40 players entered and the title, bracelet and ISPT Day1 seat was won by Leon Blackwell ahead of Bryn Green and Gary Jackson.

1    Leon Blackwell    £680.00
2    Bryn Green    £500.00
3    Gary Jackson    £360.00
4    Duncan Hodgkins    £200.00
5    Kevin O Hanlon    £140.00
6    Karl Bursford    £120.00

Finally, Saturday saw the APAT Cash Championship, a relatively new concept that saw 40 players sit down with £100 at 50p-£1 blinds and after three hours the top eight stacks took to a final table. Players could leave at any point, but the largest stack at the end of the final three hours won the title, bracelet and an ISPT Day One seat. Incredibly, victorious England team captain only a day earlier, Steve Redfern, triumphed, turning his £100 investment into £1,143.50. Chris Webber finished second with £773 and Giuseppe Maggisano 3rd with £534.50.

Sunday sees Main Event 1b, and the APAT WCOAP Pot Limit Omaha event, alongside the APAT Razz Championships.

With three APAT WCOAP events, plus a regular evening tournament place taking place, Sunday at DTD saw every table in use, in a packed club.

For Day1b of the Main Event, 212 players joined the 239 who played 1a to create a 451 runner field and a £45,100 prize pool, with the event coming to a conclusion on Monday night. The chip leaders from 1b were:

Paul Taylor 334200
Guy Taylor 245700
Eirimas Livonas 222000

and they are at the head of the 62 runners returning for Day Two Play today.

113 players participated in the APAT WCOAP Omaha Championship, which was won by Mike Perry from Southampton for £1,666. Perry's was a dominating performance, a huge chip leader through most of the final. He defeated Derek Rowland Heads Up after a short battle, with Spaniard Alberto Herranz in the bronze medal position. In addition to the title and the bracelet Perry wins an ISPT Day One seat.

The final table result was as follows:

1    Michael Perry    £1,666.75
2    Derek Rowland    £971.80
3    Alberto Herranz Sanchez    £627.15
4    John Burberry    £468.95
5    Dan Dennehy    £350.30
6    Robert Gerrard    £288.15
7    Iain Wilson    £242.95
8    Shane Pollington    £197.75

The APAT Razz WCOAP Championship saw 32 runners take part in one of the more specialist events on the WCOAP Schedule. In a very popular result APAT regional team captain Jo Sharp took down the title, ahead of APAT and DTD regular Simon Lawlor

The final table result was as follows

1    Joanna Sharp    £592.00
2    Simon Lawlor    £416.00
3    Mark Lassman    £320.00
4    Duncan Hodgkins    £160.00
5    Gary Phillips    £112.00

Monday sees the WCOAP Festival conclusion, with a Main Event winner to be crowned and the ever-popular Heads Up Event also taking place.

Easter Monday saw the conclusion of the 5 day APAT WCOAP festival, 5 days which saw over 900 entries into the range of events across poker disciplines from Hold Em to HORSE and Razz.

64 players returned from the 451 starters over two days of the Main Event. The event was won by DTD regular, Lithuanian Erimas Livonas who was chip leader going into the final table and maintained the position for most of the final stages. His nearest challenger, and eventual runner-up was Tod Wood, the only APAT Champion on the final and seeking to become the third ever double Champion but he was to fall narrowly short.

In third place was DTD veteran Raj Dhiri who nursed a short-stack well then achieved the double ups he rquired to move into contention, latterly through Livonas which moved the Lithuanian out of the chip lead. Cruelly for Dhiri though, and in a hand that shaped the destiny of the tournament, his pocket Kings were out-drawn by Dhiri's Ace-King three handed, all-in pre-flop with an Ace on the flop.

Heads Up Livonas and Wood each began with seventy big blinds, but such was the aggressive styles on show that it was never likely to be a protracted affair and so it proved, with Wood's top pair top kicker being out-drawn by Livonas' bigger pair on the turn to seal him victory.

Livonas' victory secured him first prize of £10,000 and an ISPT Day Two seat that sees him take his place at Wembley in late May, the seat worth €3,000

The full final table result was as follows

1    Eirimas Livonas
2    Tod Wood
3    Raj Dhiri
4    David Denny
5    Mike Sweeney
6    Mark Crump
7    Ryunosuke Mason-brown
8    Ian Bills

Monday also saw the ever-popular Heads Up Championship, sold out at 64 players. The winner was another DTD regular, Weswell Ellis who beat WCOAP Seven Card Stud runner up Vikrum Mehta to the title. In the bronze medal match Kevin O'Hanlon beat Richard Sheils to the final medal place.

Looks like it was a great event by the way ..congrats.

Ta, it was a great long weekend.

There were a couple of open events, which pros are very welcome to take part in. The winner of one of our open events (a pro) turned up to play in our main event the following day but was turned away as it was clearly titled as an amateur event.   He understood and accepted his buy in back.

Richard,

Is that the Alistair Carins I recollect from Luton who, if memory serves, was the incredibly unfortunate victim of the Great White Shark attack?

Does he play at DTD regularly? I know he was (is?) based out of Hunstanton, Norfolk. I was trying to get in touch with him recently.
