I knew it, he'd hardly vote himself to be a chuckle brother would he!!!

To me it's got to be Bob Carolgees, except Red Dog's got a darn sight more comic talent and as far as I know doesn't make a living stuffing his right hand up animal's backsides...albeit puppet animals!

"do you remember when YOU had enough hair to have to make a decision"   GRrrrrrrrrrr :)

How do you find the big pic url?

Title: Re: red dogs twin
Post by: Robert HM on August 21, 2005, 05:17:59 PM
Well once you have the big pic in a browser window the url is in the address line. It is easy to get the big pic on it's own if you use google image search. If you found the pic in a website and it is not "clickable" then you will have to "view" "source". There maybe quicker or easier ways but that's how I do it. If this is as confuzzling as I think then call me.

Correction Trace, it's Red-Dog you must not mention spam to. He eats anything...... At Newmarket one day, he said "I could eat a horse". You shoulda seen the horses run THAT day.

He's a human waste disposal unit. Cricket balls 'n all, judging by his clygestor. Now THATS a word you don't see every day.......

Make it up? Don't be silly. But I did check the spelling in the dictionary, & it seems to have disappeared. It's a sort of Septik Tank if I'm not mistaken. Years ago everyone had them, clygesters were all the rage, now the damn word has disappeared. Honest, they DID exist!

Good. I NEVER bluff.

I was at Sheffield last week and I had 8-9 on the Button, I made a little R & the SB passed, BB called. Flop was 7-T-J, THE NUTS. I tickle bet it, he called. Turn was the 8, damn, that weakens me, but I still fancy my 8-9 is good.Tickle bet, call. River, dammit, was the 9, so my 8-9 is  now meaningless, the board is showing a straight. He checks, I bet the pot, he passes in a trice, I show the 8-9, he says "ahh, as I thought, I took you for two pair".......

In Notts last night, I'm holding 2-5 spades - dont ask, it was a weird table. Flop is all diamonds. The Captain tries to steal it from UTG, 5 of us call. (In fact, he had floped 2 pairs). Turn is a fourth diamond. Check all round. River is a FIFTH Diamond. All check round to me. Well, what's a man to do? I bet the pot, they all pass, I say" flush" & quickly muck.....NOT a bluff though, I DID have the flush......

It's true - ask The Nun, she was watching, in amazement.......

Same giuy, VERY first hand of the tourney, there is 125 chips in the pot, flop comes J-J-3, it gets to him, he goes ALL-IN, for 5,000 chips. Table gasp, smirk, & pass. He shows 3-3........

Daft? Probably. But EXACTLY the same hand hit me last night, I move all-in in late position with 3-3, 1 caller, flop is J-3-K, luverly. Check, Matey Boy (different Matey Boy, they are everywhere...) bets, I just call, 'cos I can PLAY......Turn is another J, perfectiissimo. All the chips go in, I cockily turn over my fully, he turns over K-J....... Night all.....

Babelfish is an online translator (from the Babel-fish in Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy?).

Online forum geek tactic is to take what someone says, say you put it through Babelfish & type what you think they really think. I'm thinking we should have a forum-speak dictionary somewhere.

Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. WTF is THAT? And an "online translator"?

Look. I asked who Chesney was. A whole gaggle of wise guys start posting "I am the one and only". Then it moves to babelfishing, now hitchiking & stellar comments.

Wha IS the matter with you guys? You no speak plain English?

Every answer seems to require 4 more questions.

wikipedia entry is here tikay: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chesney_Hawkes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chesney_Hawkes)

i personally prefer my revisionist description ;)

I agree with Chesney.

He's the one and only, Tikay.

And you can't take that away from him.

BUT you're starting to learn. I feel like a father after the wee one speaks his first words.

"AHHH Look everyone, Tikay used his first TLA."

================================

Dictionary Entries:

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Humorous Science-Fiction book, made into funny 80's series, then made into crap film in 2004.

Babelfish - The Babel fish is a fictional species of fish in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. A Babel fish is a highly improbable biological universal translator. It appears as a "small, yellow and leechlike" fish. When a Babel fish is inserted into the ear canal it allows the 'wearer' to "instantly understand anything said... in any form of language." http://babelfish.altavista.com/ (http://babelfish.altavista.com/) is an online translator named after the fictitious Babelfish.

Online Translator - Website where you enter a portion of text, then the software translates it into another language (usually badly).

TLA - Three Letter Abbreviation, ie WTF.

okay. on the magic that is the interweb, there are two very useful ways of getting information:

The first is www.google.com, the biggest search engine on the net, which will find you a web page with the information you are looking for. Unfortunately it will also return you a lot of rubbish so you have to commit some time to reading all those web pages.

The other is an online encyclopedia called www.wikipedia.com, which is constantly updated and always changing - a sort of dynamic encylopedia brittanica. If there is anything (and i mean anything...) you want to find out the meaing of, then going to the wikipedia web-site and typing it in to their search box will give you the answer in seconds. Its incredibly useful and highly recommended.

For example click here to see the wikipedia entry for poker: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker)

Welcome to the 21st century tony!

Red - YES, someone actually knows something useful and sensible - you prove that there IS such a thing as a clygester! I thought I was going mad, I could not find it in the dictionary. TOP MAN!

Does this wikipedia thing list it, I wonder?

Title: Re: red dogs twin

Whoa, hold up lads. Lets get this right. You, supposedly sane adults, read books which include, lets see......

A pretend fish, that doubles up as an "improbable biological online translator". Do WOT? Fish are STUPID. They have no brain.

And you are supposed to believe, doubtless in awe and wonderment, that peeps put this fish in their EAR. And it translates German into English? What would make you put a fish in your ear?

You jest, surely. You guys read junk like that?

What IS the matter with you? Try "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson and learn something useful.

Thewy reads fiction too. Can't believe ANYONE reads fiction.

"fictions good for the mind".....?

Is that a proven fact? (Rhetorical, for Red-Dog's benefit).

Non-Fiction is better for the mind. Assuming it's an intelligent mind.

Well I read both - and at times when I need to relax (definately good for the mind) - I read fiction.

Tell you what - read Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon & tell me you didn't learn something.

i am the one and only

It's turning into a bad 80's remake of Spartacus in here.

Mind you I'd rather be crucuifed than claim to be Chesney Hawkes  ;)

RE Spartacus, loved the story that was doing the rounds about one of Kirk Douglas' sons (the crap one) doing stand-up in London. He was struggling & the hecklers were slagging him. He lost the plot & shouted out "DO you know who I am? I'm Kirk Douglas' son!!".

Cue heckler standing up and shouting "NO, I'm Kirk Douglas' son!!", then another then another.

Exit the real Mr Douglas - stage left  ;D

Hmmm, nice idea, but perhaps it's best not to make it into a competition

As it is,everyones posts are welcomed and enjoyed

Who could choose between Rob yong's poker insights, Robert HM's wonderful subtle humour, Colchester Kev's lunacy, The Nun's smutt, Ironside's opinions on everything

The serious posts, The trip reports, the anecdotes, etc etc etc, how can you compare them?

I feel bad even now because I've only named one or two of all the fantastic posters we have on here

I think the best thing is to offer a little praise for a post or thread that you like, or add a comment of your own

Just like you did here  ;)

After seeing Red's camp looking pic on pokerstars, i said he looked like the drummer from Frankie goes to hollywood...and here is the proof :)

That's Paul Rutherford, the dancer from Frankie...not the drummer

Mind you, remembering Red Dog's stars picture, it seems particularly apt.

You are worryingly well-informed about FGTH Tight End......

And as it happens, I see Red-Dog more as a Holly Johnson type.........

Embarrassingly they were the first band I ever saw in concert as a spotty 14 year old. Thing was, it turns out I sang more notes than them the entire evening

Fortunately my musical and concert going tastes have improved since then

I see Red Dog as Marc Almond circa 1981 with tache actually, more than Holly

I don't agree - Holly's effeminate nature is more in keeping with Red.

I'd say there were a couple of Frankie-Dogs in there.
