I heard the debut single by The Wedding Present one night in 1985, while listening to the John Peel show. Have been obsessed ever since. David Gedge has written the soundtrack to my life.

My current favourite

Another Weddoe on here!  Clearly a man of taste.

Gedge is a songwriting legend.  So many to choose from, but this is the one I always hope get's played when I see them in concert.  No video, but not needed.  Just play loud!

Possibly the best lyrics ever written.

Excellent choice Sheriff. Probably my favourite song of all time, from definitely my favourite album. You'll hear Dalliance if you see them in 2012, they're playing all of Seamonsters. UK dates in the autumn.

Seamonsters gig will be awesome.  So many fantastic tracks.  Corduroy and Heather are other particular favourites from that album.

an okish song that doesn't really belong on this thread, but the council estate in the suede vid reminded me of it.  still always makes me giggle seeing boshi in his rollers at 1.54 Cheesy

I certainly did. Andy Bell should be ashamed of the crap he's churned out in recent years with Oasis and Beady Eye.

I actually had this lined up for my next song.

OK, a quick Clash tribute because they would have to be my favourite band of all time, made me interested in modern history more than any other single factor.

As with The Wedding Present, there are numerous Pixies tracks I could put in this thread, but this has probably become their most well known now, due to it being used in Fight Club.  A cover of this is also being used at the moment in the current Thomson holiday ad.

Also, the Pixies offiicial Facebook page linked to this Beatbox cover version last year, which I think is incredible.  I ended up looking for some of this guy's other stuff, and he's pretty awesome:

awesomeness. music doesn't often make me blub like a girl, but this nearly always does.  amazing voice, beautiful song.  best listened to without a vid imo.
