Its a bit crazy down their already, there is actually a barrier/rail for just the Journalists to stand behind, but this will prove impossible to police as the public want to catch a glimpse of the action.  Anyway I like breaking rules, I shall keep trying to get as close as possilble before I grabbed by the scruff of my neck.

They kicked off about 15 mins ago and there was the inevitable swarm of "scribble boks" (the wonderful word I have heard branded about for bloggers) hovering around Eric Friberg.  With the blinds starting at 1,500 / 3,000 and a 300 ante, Friberg with 7,000 wasn't gonna wait for long, especially investing 1,500 first hand in the small blind.

The first hand started with Surinder raising up to 8,000, Friberg choosing THIS was his moment and moving his remaining 5,500.  Florian Langmann in the big blind makes the call for 8,000.  The flop came

 7s Td 2c

The two boys check checked

5d on the turn made Langmann bet 13,000 and Surinder got ou the way,  on their backs and Friberg see's his fate as he is shown  Kh  Ts for the flopped pair.  Friberg's  Ahrt Jd was no good and he has left the Vic first hand and 40th.

Next to hit the deck after the inevitable decking of Erik Friberg was Thomas Tollund, another victim of what could today's the table of death.

Understandably all-in with Ahrt Ks, an Adidas-clad cap-wearing Tollund stumbled headfirst into the Pocket Rockets of Irishman Alan Smurfit, the bracelet winner's attire and mannerisms directly contrasting to that of his younger Scandinavian foe.

And after the dealer whisked out a Jh Js 6d Kd Th board, only the Cowboy on the Turn beaming out any ray of hope, it was a victory ofor the old school with Smurfit looking to match his successes of last Summer in Vegas.

Richard Ashby is indeed out, pushing with A-Q but being called in two places, one of whom was my pick for the tournament Marcel Baran who eliminated Chufty with Pocket Sevens.

Martyn Reeve has enjoyed a solid start, his 11k bet on a Jc 6s 8c Flop enough to force Christopher Andler to fold. The Welshman rested his chin upon his hands, as if entangled in prayer, so perhaps he was seeking assistance from the Poker Gods.

Meanwhile, we have lost PokerStars qualifier Jasper Joris, who had his love spheres sliced and diced by the meat grinder with Aces versus Jacks, the Pocket Knaves finishing with a rather vomit-inducing flush. Ouch, what a time to take a beat.

Shane Reihill has just been eliminated. There was a ferocious crowd of onlookers surrounding the table, and they were rather reluctant to let me see the hand, but through a slight nook of sweaty bodies I did spot that it was 8-7 vs. K-8 on a board with two Kings. Pretty decisive in the end.

During one of my journeys between card- and pressroom, we lost Swedish player David Sonelin leaving poor neighbour Stuart Nash sitting on his tod like a showerless marathon runner.

We were on the money bubble for a little while and sadly OUT on the bubble in 33rd place is Carlo Citrone.  He was quite low with around 22,000 and made the push with  Ad Qc but Pokerstars qualifier Vijayan Nagarajan woke up with  Ac Kh.

A very non Queen or straightening board for Carlo and he has left with nothing.

31 players remaining, Mehmet Cinar biting the dust at the hands of local hero Ken Wong.

Prior to that departure, the average chip stack was 123,500.

During the break I managed to catch up with an adrenalin pumped Ben (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=45) Grundy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=45), perhaps eying up that first place after many so near yet so far performances. If he can pool together all that experience and, as he put it, "avoid the blowup", then there's no reason why he shouldn't be one of the favourites.

At the moment, he is on 280k, so certainly heading in the right direction, although he did seem a little disappointed that his Kings weren't paid off when the Big Blind found Jacks. "He just flat-called, so it could have been a lot more. And the flop came Ace high too, so it slowed down the action. I bet on the River thinking he had a hand like Jacks, but he made a good read and passed."

-------------

If you're wondering why Stuart Nash is only on 65k, then it's because of this hand: Flat-calling on the button with A-T, Stuart Nash and the Big Blind saw an Ace high Flop with two spades. Both players opted for a sneaky check, only for the Turn to come another Ace, but a third spade. The Big Blind bet out 5k, Stuart made it 15k and the Big Blind called. A seemingly harmless 9c hit the River, triggering a bet of 30k from Mr Big Blind. Slightly reluctant but holding a strong hand nonetheless, Stuart called, only to be met by A-9.

The big delay in action restarting is the set up of the TV feature table.  They have taken there seats and looks like a mouth watering line up:

Anythony Lellouche
Katja Svendson
Pascal Perrault
Daniel Mangas
Fuat Can
Chris Moneymaker
Roland Dewolfe
Joseph Mouwad

Its restarted and the blinds are still in the 2,000 / 4,000 level with 400 ante.

I'm getting pushed and shoved at the moment, but I did manage to get close enough to two tables to accrue rough chip counts:

Table 1:

Alan Smurfit -- 120,000
Josh Egan -- 45,000
Javed Abrahams -- 90,000
Surinder Sunar -- ?
Jason Hackett -- 65,000
Marc Goodwin -- 61,000
David Obrobac -- 128,000
Florian Langmann -- 125,000

Table 2:

Stuart Nash -- 25,000
Ian Cox -- 120,000
Peter Petersen -- 130,000
Vijayan Nagarajan -- 105,000
Ken Wong -- ?
Nicky Roeg -- 80,000
Fredrik Haugen -- 125,000

Stuart Nash is OUT.

Fredrik Haugen raised to 12,000 pre-flop, Stuart Nash pushed all-in for 16,300 and Peter Petersen made it 32,000 more in the blind. Haugen called and all three players saw a 2s 6s 7h Flop.

Petersen checked and Haugen bet out 40k, enough to make Petersen fold.

Haugen = Ts Th

Nash = Qs Jc

Turn = 4d

River = 8h

Table 3:

Paul Mendes -- 78,000
Marcel Baran -- 150,000
Phidias Georgiou -- 195,000
Ben Grundy -- 200,000
Tony Cascarino -- 33,500
Christopher Andler -- 11,500
Lam Trinh -- 332,000
Martyn Reeve -- 23,400

Not long after Stuart (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=420) Nash (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=420)'s exit we lost Fuat Can from the feature table.  He went all in a board of

 7d  3h  Aspades

Can held pocket kings but Anthony (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=903) Lellouche (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=903) was sitting pretty with  Ahrt 3s and hit a house too just for good measure.

Roland Dewolfe found himself short on the feature table and reraised Daniel Mangas all in with  Ad Jd.  Daniel made the call though with  Kc Kh and after the flop of

5d Jc 9s  there was slight hope but the turn

4d  gave even more hope.  We held our breath for the river and its an amazing

 Js

to double up Roland to 120,000  and leave Mangas a 58k dent.

Title: Re: Pokerstars.com London EPT: Day 3 - At A Glance
Post by: Chili on September 28, 2007, 05:00:03 PM
Katja Svendson was getting busy on the feature talbe, making a great squeeze play with  4c 5c no less but got caught by  7h 8h incredibly.  She took a hit and after a couple of all ins we see this 3 way pot.

Chris Moneymaker raised from the button, Daniel Mangas goes all and Katja also goes all in.  Chris asks "how much more?" but then says "nevermind, I cant pass this hand. I call!"

So 2 players all in

Katja  Jh Js
Daniel  Kh Jd
Moneymaker  Qc Qs

The board was

 7h Kc Ac 7s Ts

Which meant Mangas wins the 120K pot, Moneymaker makes a 13,000 profit and Katja Svendson is sent to the rail.

After a plucky performance without ever possessing a formidable stack, Welshman Martyn Reeve has been eliminated from the London EPT courtesy of Tony Cascarino. All-in with A-J, Reeve was in big trouble against Cascarino's A-J, the former Irish footballer comfortably surviving an A-7-8-3-T board.

Next to drop is oranged-topped (although not today) early pace setter Daniel Mangas, the long-haired lover from Spain re-raising all-in on a 3s 8d 6h Flop, but being swiftly called by Frenchman Anthony (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=903) Lellouche (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=903).

On their backs time and if Lellouche had his man dominated on the Flop with 8h 4h versus Kc 6c (suitathon!), he had him donning bondage gear and being beaten back and blue by a leather whip by the 8h Turn, the academic 4d River being er... academic.

Post by: Chili on September 28, 2007, 05:28:11 PM
Javed Abraham's never really getting hold of any big stack during this tournament, said he "tired to make a bluff against Surinder, who hit a flush anyway."  The next hand, left with about 55,000 called an all in from Josh Egan.  Josh was also on a similar stack and was moving all regularly, so Javed took his chances with  Ad 3h.  He was correct to do so also when Egan turned over   Kd 6c.

The poker gods do not always reward correct decisions though and a King on the turn, gutted the youngster and left him with a paultry 4,800 with blinds at 2,500/5,000.  He moved all in next hand and doubled to 12,000, the very next hand he pushed again after a raise from Egan.  This time Egan had AA and Javed was in trouble with A6, no help and his EPT comes to end but another EPT cash it very handsome for this rising lad.

Another exit, this tiime its Christopher Andler in 24th place.

Andler made it 14,000 preflop and was called by both Grundy & Lam Trinh the board came

4d 7c Tc   then Andler bet 50k for the rest and was called by Trinh

Trinh  Ahrt Ts
Andler   Kd Th

Turn  3s
River  Aspades

Christopher Andler OUT

WE HAVE ACTION!!!

;as;

Ever heard the one about the Englishman, the Dutchman and the Malaysian? No, me neither, until now...

A big melting pot of media, casino staff and players from the neighbouring table swarming around the right hand table signified a hand, so, with notepad in hand end in anticipation of something more than just a 'steal of the blinds', I leap over like a panther and brace myself for some good old fashioned pushing and shoving. After I'd utilised my muscular guns to good affect, I managed to squeeze into a slight crevice to see a tonne of chips in the middle with the following hands being revealed:

Nicky Roeg = 7c 6c

Ian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) Cox (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) = Ks Kh

Vijayan Nagarajan = Ad Kh

Something tells me that shortstacked Nicky Roeg was making a move, but didn't quite get his timing spot on, running into Cox's monster Pocket Cowboys, and as the Flop came a teasing Kd Aspades 3h, Nicky was drawing dead with the other foot swiftly following the other out of the door. Meanwhile, Vijayan was in need of divine intervention which failed to materialise on the exceedingly raggy 8d Turn and 2c River.

Roeg out, Cox doubled up, Nagarajan hit.

Ian on about 260,000

Huge hand now just developed with another Pokerstars qualifer, Cypriot Phidias Georgiou and Ben (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=45) Grundy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=45). Phidias raised preflop to 15,600, Grundy reraised to 41,000, they cypriot dwelled but he did make the call.  The flop came

 4c 8d  3s

Phidias checks & Ben immediately says "all in" and Phidias quick as a flash says "call."  Ben's  Ahrt Qc might have got through had Phidias's pocket 8's not tripped up.  A K and a 2 to follow didn't help Ben (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=45) Grundy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=45) and he was eliminated in 21st place.

On estimation, Georgiou must have cira 480,000 and chip lead.

--------------

Just before the break, we had a quick double up from Joseph Mouaward, Peter Peterson trying his luck with Ahrt 3d but coming unstuck against Kh Ks and a bullet dodging 7s Jd 9s 4d Jc board.

Just a few hands later, the brightly coloured shirted Pascal Perrault declares civil war on fellow countryman Anthony Lellouche, raise, re-raise, all-in, call on a Flop of Ac 8s 6c with Pascal making the final push. Both players had a big piece of the action, Pascal's Ad 9d leading to Anthony and his Ahrt 7d to demand the board to pair after the Kh Turn. However, the request wasn't met and Pascal doubled through on a 2h River.

It's a doubleupfest here in London, the latest double-upper to join the seemingly non-elitist club being the intriguingly hatted Paul Mendes. I joined the action late, but assume Surinder Sunar was the recipient as he was lingering over his seat in that adrenalin-pumping way players do when they have reach a showdown.

With Kings v Jacks, a face-off was inevitable, but Mendes will have been relieved to be holding the former, especially after the dealer popped out a Kd 5d 3c 9s 4d. Cool as a cucumber buried in snow, Mendes simply nodded as he accepted his gold.

But what about that hat? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Ian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) Cox (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) in the mix again, small blind Ian makes it 23K and the big blind Peter Peterson moved all in for a total of 56,000.  Ian called and showed  Ahrt Ad and Petersen showed  8s 9d the board was a very comprehensive:

 8d Jd Jc Ac Js

Peter Petersen out in 20th place

There's been a lot of Cox of late, and we have yet more Cox for you now as the hot-running Brit eliminates local hero Ken Wong. Raising to 20k from the button, Wong made his move from the big blind with 8h 7d, Cox perhaps sensing weakness and happy to make the call. As Cox revealed Ad Jd, Wong tapped the table, his sagging expression perhaps reflective of his current mood and the heightened confidence-lacking aura of 'this-is-my-last-hand' -syndrome.

And his last hand it was, the board coming 4c 9h Kc 4h Qh and leaving a dejected Wong with nothing but the green of the baize. "Yes!" exclaims Cox in that elated, but simultaneously hesitant and respectful manner that is so familiar with victors at this stage. Wong, meanwhile, simply said "Nice hand" respectfully and quietly sneaked away from the table.

As soon as I'd complained (although disguised) about the lack of action, the feature table encountered it's first double up in a while, Florian Langmann finding his chips dancing into the middle with Jh Th against an ahead, but not dominating Ahrt Kd of Anthony Lellouche.

The 2h 4h 3c Flop garnered a receptive nod from Langmann, but no visible excitement just yet. The 5s turn then took away two of his outs, leaving him with just the flush draw, which did indeed arrive on the 9h River to save his relieved bacon.

Georgiou just took a few chips off Surinder.  Surrinder raised to 25k in the cut off, called by Georgiou. On a 4 J 4 flop, Georgiou checks and Surinder bets 60k, called by Georgiou.

The turn is an A and they both check and await the 9 river, Georgiou bet 50k on the river and Surinder Insta passes.  He should be on about 200k.

Tony Cascarino is the short stack and has gone all in about 4 times recently.  With the blinds at 4k / 8k and 1k ante his 33k wasnt going to last very long but he doubled once and the other times took the blinds and antes.  He just keeps laughing and saying "How the hell am I still in this tournament?"

Josh Egan was on about 90k but got doubled up by Ian Cox.

Roland and Pascal Perrault clash on the Feature table.  Roland on about 110k had gone all in previous hand and everyone passed, this time he does it he gets looked up by Pascal.

Roland De Wolfe   Jh Jd
Pascall Perrault      Aspades Qd

Board came out   Qc Ad 8s 8d Ac

Roland is out in 18th place.

(4) Tony Cascarino -- 90k

Meanwhile on the Feature table Florian Langmann raised it up to 19k, Moneymaker makes the call. Flop

6d Tc  4s  Florian bet out 28k, again smooth called by Moneymaker.  The turn came

Jd  Florian checked and Moneymaker moved all in.  Florian insat called and we got to see a glorious

 8s 9s Moneymaker
 Ad Td Florian

5d sealed Moneymakers fate and the with the not so sincere "nice hand siiiiir"  he removes his microphone and is off.

Chris Moneymaker OUT in 17th place.

That means we are down to 2 tables and 16 left for a re draw.

First hand back after the redraw and Alan Smirfit makes it onto the feature table but not for long I'm afraid.  Starting the hand with only 56,000 there was a raise in front of him and and he pushed all in and was called for the extra 32k more by Marcel Baran.

Baran  Ahrt 7c
Smurfitt   Ad Qd

Board   7h 8h Qh   9s  5h

So the rivered Flush sent Omaha bracelet winner Smirfitt out in 16th place.

Can you see his bracelet neatly placed in front of his chips?  The bracelet hasn't moved from that position all day and I don't know about you guys but I makes me feel a little queezy personally (and I don't mean that it would intimidate me!)

Lam Trinh is OUT.

I think I pulled a muscle trying to get the hand, but I got it nonetheless, Trinh pushing all-in with Ks 8s, but failing to outdraw Josh Egan's 7c 7s on a 3d 9d 9s board.

Another Brit down.

Blinds 5k / 10k  Tony Cascarino raises to 40k preflop, it goes round to the rather pensive Georgiou in the small blind who makes the call.  Incidently in the hands that I have watched this cypriot, every decision is a big one and every decision takes time to make.  Anyhow we all witness a flop like

 4c 4d 9s

Georgiou bets to put Cascarino all in and if he wanted him to pass, no chance.  Cascarino calls all in wth   Qh Qs.

The Cypriot shows  Ad Jh.  Straight away, heartache for the ex footballer as the  Ac hits the turn and even a  Jc on the river makes no difference and after about the 8th all in of the day for Cascarino he is OUT in 14th place.

All I have to do is say that nothing is happening for stuff to happen.  19 year old Swede David Obrobac, playing his first Live tournament was running low on the feature table.  All in preflop against Joseph Mouawad they turn over:

David Obrobac Ahrt Kc
Joseph Mouawad Qh Qc

The board came

9h 8h 6h    everyone squinted looking for hearts and Obrobac delighted at some more outs for him, the turn

Qd    cut his outs drastically and the  3c just sent him out.

David Obrobac or "little gus" as Snoops christened him is OUT in 13th

After heading into Day 3 with a supposedly unbeatable chip lead and his place on the final table seemingly cemented, Wolverhampton's Surinder (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=422) Sunar (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=422) is now watching from the rail, or, more likely, the bar, where he probably isn't even watching anymore.

All-in with Qd Th, Surinder was quickly called by Joseph Mouaward who showed a relieved Midlander a pair of Pocket Sevens, 7s 7d. The Jc Ahrt Js board gave Surinder a bunch of extra outs whilst the 9d Turn produced about a billion more, but it was all to no avail as the River came a very raggy 5c.

Can anyone calculate exactly how many outs he had there on the Turn?

Feature table counts after Sunar's exit:

Ian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) Cox (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) -- 157,000
Marcel Baran -- 599,000
Fredrik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=550) Haugen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=550) -- 201,000
Jason Hackett -- 146,000
Jospeh Mouaward -- 707,000

Langmann started to take over the 6 man table and on his third raise in a row, Georgiou could take no more and decided to dance with him.  He called the 35k raise and the flop arrived as this

Qs 9s Th   Georgiou bet 50k and Langmann goes over the top for about 200k to put him all in.  Georgiou for the first time all night made an instant decision and called the bet.  On their backs,

Georgiou  Kh Qd
Langmann  Ac Qh

Two 6's followed and Georgiou after a great an valiant run in his first EPT and first major tournament finishes in 11th place.

--------------

Pascal (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=691) Perrault (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=691) is OUT and becomes the last player to miss out on the final table of nine. Crippled by a coinflipping J-J v A-K encounter with Paul Mendes, Pascal moved his last 70k in with Q-J, but was called in the small blind by fellow countryman Anthony Lellouch's K-Q. The T-8-T-K-T board was merely a teaser for Pascal who finished the day in 10th position.

--------------

Final table chip counts:

Florian Langmann -- 835,000
Jospeh Mouawad -- 674,000
Marcel Baran -- 606,000
Josh Egan -- 500,000
Anthony Lellouche -- 452,000
Paul Mendes -- 340,000
Ian Cox -- 239,000
Fredrik Haugen -- 201,000
Jason Hackett -- 92,000

Jason may remain a bigger mystery cos he is the unfortunate TV final table bubble boy.  With not even 10 big blinds he made his move with  8d  9h, he was called by Joseph Mouawad with A9 and after an very dull board of

Q 7 2 5 2

Jason Hackett finished in 9th place for £34,652

We have our final table of 8 for tomorrow.
