I have a stable, I don't think Paul will mind me giving a 2nd opinion... Just in case there is any suspicion of a conflict of interest, I definitely won't be staking you
Winning online nowadays is pretty difficult and requires continuous work on a weekly basis to fix leaks and to adapt and evolve as everyone else evolves.
If you had applied to me, I would have asked for your screen name and would have used Sharkscope etc to filter your results for buyin, satellites, game types etc in an attempt to find something encouraging to work with.
Fwiw, I rarely look at results any older than 1 year, the game moves that quickly that lots of 2016 winners are now massive loser
s. I suspect that from your writing, your Sharkscope would lead me to say "no thx" right there. If there was something reasonable, I would have asked you to send in ~ 20 HHs that were fresh. The buyin wouldn't really matter, but it would give enough of an insight into how your game was, where the leaks were and your situational awareness. If you didn't already have a reasonable database of your play and use various online tools to analyse your own play, it is almost impossible to believe the play is going to be good enough for it to be a profitable proposition.
So I wouldn't have paid you for the sample, I'm guessing Paul recovers some of the loss from affiliate lifetime value but I have no doubt the trials are a loss leader for him.
I would have given you direct feedback though, it would be fairly short and to the point and the profit/loss would be the most irrelevant statistic of all of them. If you had shown decent awareness and your stats were reasonable with perhaps a minor leak or two, it might even be possible to start you low and iron out the creases. If your game was miles off, then it really isn't a good spot for anyone to have to pay money to try and turn you into an expected winner.
Bengt Sonnert
has been playing poker tonight on stars! I hadn't seen him at the tables for many years, but it seems like he has been back playing for the last 12 months.
For those who have no idea who he is, he was a massive cash game crusher who probably retired before most of today's high stakes crushers started playing.
Crikey, there's a blast from the past.
He was the Isildur of his era, feared by almost anyone with any sense. Last time I saw him was at the WSOP-E in Leicester Square about 10 years ago (held on 3 floors & in & 4 different casinos, what a farce that was) when he finished 4th in the one Juanda won.
We used to look at him in awe, coolest bloke on the planet, or so we thought.
Used to knock about in a group called 'Swedish Santas', and had their own website, the lot
I'd imagine someone will have some snaps of games back on the old Laddies/Prima, where they all used to ply their trade.
TheSalmon, pkrbt, Wassberg, Pokergirl1, Nebuchad, nesta123... So many others, but my memory is tez.

Hey Terry, what buy in’s of live comps do you normally play? What would you want staking to play? And how do you study your live game?

I am currently mostly playing £50-£100 comps at my local(Luton) Gentings and Grosvenor
I have played the last couple of £440 comps at Aspers Stratford after winning £30 satelites and played the last few pokerstars live events (£170 and £220) after winning satelites online
Up until June I was working as a Department Manager for Sainsburys so couldn't play as often as I wanted but could afford to play, unfortunately I was made redundant and now have plenty of time to play but no bankroll
My reasons for wanting to join Brs were to be part of a stable where my ultimate goal was to play Live large buy in events that would be out of my reach without backing, I was hoping to get help and guidance with my online game and looking forward to stringing some online results together but playing Live is where I see myself being a profitable player.
As far as studying my live game, I look back at key hands and think about how I played them and how I could have played them differently, If I feel there is a hand or situation that I don't understand or cant work out I will post on one of the facebook groups I belong to looking for feedback or occasionally for a particularly troubling hand I will post on 2+2. I also spend time talking through HH with a couple of friends who play to a high standard.
It is frustrating to not have a bankroll and to not be able to compete at the level I would feel comfortable at. When I get a chance to play the bigger tournaments I regularly make day 2 and get into the money but have so far been unlucky not to take one down yet
I am not suggesting that I am as good as the top pros, but I have a good understanding of the game, I play well but am always looking to improve and am confident that if I could put a string of results together and get myself a bankroll I could do well.
Good Luck at the tables

This is not chicken and egg.
If you can't build a bankroll while you have paid employment then pretty unlikely to build one off live bowl comps - impossible actually

I had a bankroll
once I was made redundant I had bills to pay
I am not that much of a degenerate that I would keep my bankroll and not pay my rent/credit cards/mobile etc
The whole reason for wanting to join a stable is so that my bankroll could be managed separately, having only ever played for myself with my own money I don't know if this would be a viable option but it seemed like a good idea to me

Ha, remember when Ladbrokes was nowt but GB & Ireland pros and Swedish pros? Remember Nebuchad's faux pas at those awards?
Bengt Sonnert I think was the first player I ever interviewed, probably 11 years ago.

God I'm old
I managed to find it
Who knew that going to the gym could make your hair grow back, too?
I was friendly with some of the swedish pros from Ladbrokes, but didn't know him.
We're all old, but imagine how Tikay feels

That's this guy
http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?n=77532
Rumoured to have been a superuser, but who knows.
Kris85 was Kristian Kjondal (I used to speak to him a fair bit, and was Pokerkong1 on Ladbrokes. Went from 50nl, to 200/400 in a few years, like many of those guys did)
Zweig was Prahlad
I_Knockout_U was Patrik Antonious
TiltMeNot was Bengt
Joseph123 was Sargon Ruya (The Giant on Laddies, and one of the Swedish Santas with Bengt)

Paul Jackson, say what you want about his sweater selections, poker play, wine preferences... the man knows how to win.
