I was playing in a £10 PL rebuy tourney at a casino last night. We were a few hands into the freezout period and I was the short stack at the table with 1500 chips and the blinds at 200/200. I had just been moved to the table so didn't know much about my opponents, but suspected the play was tighter than on other tables as there were less chips in play on this table than the others.

I was on the button, and before the play got to me there had been 6 limpers. I moved all-in with A7 Diamonds hoping that I'd face maybe 1 opponent, get lucky, and treble up. Instead I got 4 callers. The flops was rags and the first 2 people checked. The last person to act bet big, and the other folded leaving me heads up with AJ. The seven didn't come on the turn or river and I was out.

My question is was my move reasonable in the circumstances, or should I have folded and waited for something a little stronger, or even just waited for any 2 cards where I could put my money in the pot first without any limpers?

Your play isn't the worst in the world as you are shortstacked, however you give no information about the stack sizes of your opponents, except to say that there are fewer chips on the table than others...

The problem with your play is that it looks like you are trying to buy the pot, and then once a limper or two calls you, the rest are priced in

you are on the button, so therefore you have almost a full round until the blinds reach you. Ideally I'd want to be first mover with a medium A....soon, so you can at least make it semi difficult for the others to call you

as an aside, I think people tend to overvalue suited rag Aces, thinking that it makes it a significantly better hand than Ace rag suited, it's not especially!

I personally wouldn't have made this move. At this stage, and with this sort of hand, just taking the blinds should be enough. However, with 6 limpers, you're bound to get at LEAST one caller. Once one calls, others might follow suit for value, and then you're really screwed.

What I'm not too keen on here is that you're after 1 caller. The problem is that you're just not going to be ahead of this caller. If he doesn't have a pocket pair, one that may be 8 s, 9 s, , , then he could very easily have a higher ace and have you completely dominated. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the limpers has AJ, AT, A9, A8.

As Mr End said, wait for a first raise opening where you can pressure the potential limpers into folding their small pocket pairs or weak aces. You need to get your chips in be4 the blinds reach you, but you still have a few hands left to pick somehting up. If it was me, I'd fold the A7 and wait for the next opening to raise first, whatever my cards.

Its not the best play either. You have assumed that it is a tight table as there are fewer chips on it, and you have just got there. So you have 6 tight limpers in prepared to put 200pts in and you test the water by going all-in on the button with a 6x BB bet? Value for most to call pre flop to get lucky. My call would be to fold or join the limpers and hope to see at least 2 diamonds, I would more than likely fold though and as you say you were on the button, wait for a better starting hand.

take note of this post, snoopy is a master of the short stack he would never make a move with a rag ace, last time i was at a table with him he made a move ( when there was a limper in a pot ) with that well known monster  td  >:?
