Title: Tikay who's that woman????
Post by: Richie Wild on May 11, 2006, 07:42:23 PM
I'm watching 843 on Sky, Poker Night Replay on right now until 8pm.

Tikay is sat with a blonde lady. Who on earth is she?

IMHO she is awful. Tikay is excellent and has offered some very good advice and given his views in a very nice, straight forward manner, but she is awful!!

I cannot believe Poker Night Live would have interviewed that woman and seriously thought she would be good for the show!!!

Who is she? If it's anyone you know then I sincerely apologise but I am just giving my opinion. Why have dull presenters on like her???????? There must be a whole hat load of women who would know more, be much better presenters and far softer to the eye.

Out the 2 blondes I'm watching, Tikay you win the prize!

Richie

That's Lynsey and she is not expected to be an expert, in fact the opposite.

Well, she looks better than Axxeman!

I disagree, I thought she did a great job.

Try sitting in front of a camera during a live broadcast and stringing two sentences together.

I disagree too...you need a lot of professionalism and ability to hold down an "anchorperson"s job and all the pnl people do it well in my opinion

Also, I think its a quite rough to criticise someone for in effect not "being soft on the eye". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Far too many people are obsessed with the visual rather than the substance with regard to media people.

Her name is Lynsey Horn, who originally hailed from Newcastle, poor lass.

Via Manchester & Birmingham, she eventually arrived in London, where she resides in the northern suburbs.

Her "day job" is the Radio Five Live Traffic & Travel Lady.

She lives with her Partner, & they have a cat called Vince - named afer Vince McMahon, the WWF geezer bloke chappie. And from where I sat, she looked pretty soft to my eye!

It's hard to comment how she or I look from the other side of the camera. But I can say that she guided me through only my second 4 hour Live TV Broadcast with great professionalism. 4 hours LIVE takes some doing, & I could not have got through without her, ditto Tom Sambrook last week.

There are not too many Live TV shows of 4 hours duration fronted by only 2 people, & both of us are, strictly speaking, amateurs. I gotta say, she was kind, caring & protective towards me & I owe her my thanks & gratitude. Speaks funny, though......

"Liking" someone is subjective, & Richie is entitled to his viewm, but I do think it right that I defend her, as she is not (yet!) a blondeite, & thus has no right of reply.

Wow, I seem to make a habit of stirring things up, I didn't mean to at all.

It's kind of interesting that TightEnd picked up on just one of my comments.

I stated that she was awful I then qualified that by explaining that I thought Tikay was excellent and gave good advice. I then said I was was surprised that the TV company would have selected her rather than someone who wasn't as dull, who knew more and was a better presenter and softer on the eye. The softer on the eye comment was just a final note, not my main point.

I respect Tikay's comments and I'm pleased you were looked after, but she was very, very dull. Mind you I find PNL very dull and I think perhaps Tikay's right. It must be hard trying to make 4 hours of talk interesting and on most nights IMHO; they fail!

I much prefer watching the televised tournaments. I feel it's better to watch and learn from the pros rather than watching who knows who play on a STT, or cash etc.

I'm watching a great final table Full Tilt championship game with Daniel Negraneu, Ted Forrest, Connie Gowen and Kristy Gazes on 844. It 's just great to watch! I've just switched over to PNL and it's a STT and the play is just awful and the commentary little more than boring. ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

But, as I say maybe I'm on a different planet with so many of you thinking PNL is good and that the people do it well.  I must be watching something else!

:dontask:  Hey, what do I know? I'm just Wild about Poker!

Hi Richie

The difference between your opinion and the opinions of the people in this thread is likely a result of experience and knowledge. They have been playing and winning at poker for years, so its probable that they are most attuned to understanding what good and bad is, in terms of poker knowledge/commentary. Its quite easy to write stuff off as boring/dull when you dont understand the meaning behind their words. I made the same mistake when i watched "strictly come dancing". I look back with a slight grin on my face when I think of how bad I used to consider the show, now I am armed with a much wider knowledge base

As you gain experience, I am of the opinion that you will find the show a lot more entertaining, and will find the all-in fest that is the american shows quite tedious.

but hey, what do I know? im just totally iced by poker!

kind regards

T

I think it should also be mentioned that there are two versions of the PNL programme. They alternate between one night pitching it at beginner level ( i.e.  lots of mentions of hand rankings, what blinds are, how button works etc etc ) and the next night it will be a more advanced programme with more hand analysis and poker theory discussion.

The "advanced" version will feature two experts on poker who clearly can play the game properly and the "beginner" nights will tend to ( although not exclusively ) have just the one expert together with another presenter who is more of a novice at the game.

I think the idea is that beginners watching the programme can identify with the novice player and Lynsey will have been chosen for exactly that reason.  Then as she learns the game she takes these new viewers along with her and as she improves then so do they.

They went through this process with one of the other female presenters ( Michelle) last year and now that she has progressed in ability I guess they are just starting the process over again.

So Lynsey isn't really there to give advice as such but more to learn, link the programme and prompt the questions to the expert....or Tikay in this case!   ;tk;  rotflmfao .

Personally I enjoy dipping in and out of PNL as they do have some knowledgeable presenters on there who have interesting poker discussions but having said that I can understand how it might not be to everyone's taste.

KeithB's final para rings true with me - it's a "dip in & out" typa show, it would be too much to sit through 4 hours.

I am the street newbie, & need, strictly speaking, to keep in line, but in my 5 week tenure I am trying to do it with a little bit of humour & crankiness, and, it seems, with more than the average number of faux paus.

It's a bigger & more complex Production than I realised - the backstage Team numbers 4, there are two Presenters, everyone rotated nightly, so over a 30 day month, that's a lot of peeps.

It's been fun, and an experience I would not have missed for the world.

Red, I didn't consider your feelings before I posted this:  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=10054.0 (http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=10054.0)

Is there a difference?

Oh yes, of course. We can only give honest opinions as long as we are being nice to people.

 ;)

Totalise, it's not about a presenter's experience in Poker is about their ability to present and make for better TV. (Tikay's contribution excepted)  :)up

But perhaps as I said before I'm missing something. Maybe I'm too excitable and prefer more razzamatazz than plain old boring:

"OK so here we have flapjackcharlie making a huge raise with pocket aces. This is going to be interesting. He's up against yellowperil33 with 4 5 off suit and acefred with 7, 8 of clubs. Lets see how this develops...."
ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The other 2 folded and flapjackcharlie took the blinds!!!!

It will certainly never be more than a dip in and then straight out if PNL is on!

But then I have admitted to being a  ;fish; and perhaps without PNL in my life I'll remain that way.  ;)

Apologies to Lynsey if she has read this string and is offended. My intention was never to offend; I feel a forum is a place to give humble opinions and in future I will try to be a bit more diplomtic.

 :redcard: for me.

Richie, you are a good guy, & we are gonna be fine.

Yes, it's a Forum, but it's a Forum with a difference. Like & don't like is fine, all day & all night. But we just don't allow anyone (except me, this week!) to be flamed, & we like to be a bit more civil than most. Imagine Lynsey was sat with a bunch of us, & you had never met her before. Would you say, to her face, that she was boring? I think not, that would be hurtful, & you are not a hurtful sort of guy, from what I can see. And she's a Lady, too. Bit old-fashioned, me!

But insult Colchester Kev all day. He deserves it, & he's family, & he can defend himself, 'cos he's big & ugly, & he's a regular on here. That's the diff between, say, Keav & Lynsey.

You are gonna be just fine with us Rich, I know it, I can feel it in my water.

Hi Tikay,

I appreciate your comments and your sentiment.

As I have said in previous posts the welcome has been great and there are some amazingly varied and really interesting and very, very amusing posts and the people all seem really nice.

Apart from that newbie Richie Wild guy! What a schmuck. I like to be on the same table when that guy sits down. I'd clean up! Who does he think he is? Anyone would think he was Wild about Poker!

It doesn't quite work like that. If you help an old lady to cross the road, it doesn't entitle you to kick the next one down the stairs.

Where do you get the idea that you can say what you like so long as it's honest?

When was the last time you walked up to some big bloke and said "Hey mate, you're ugly"

I think the ethos here is don't say anything about anyone that you wouldn't have the bottle to say to their face.

Can you honestly say that about your original comments, Richie?

There are ways to say things and I already have apologised and said that I will try to more diplomatic.

Andrew, Yes I would tell Lynsery's that she is an awful presenter. As I said IMHO I thought she was and I would tell her, but in a more diplomatic way. How will anyone know they need to improve if no one ever tells them?

She might in return tell me I'm crap at poker and she would be right!!

 ;)

Red, yes I looked in the mirror just now and said "Hi mate, You're ugly!" I nodded my head in resignation and agreed. I aslo said, there are plenty more guys on the bolnde poker forum that would be softer on the eye.

But to compare apples with apples, I didn't say she was ugly. So I would go up to some big bloke and say "Hi mate, see that guy over there? He's softer on the eye than you."

;)

Someone once told Chris Moyles he had a face for radio.

;iagree; and I'd tell him to his face.  rotflmfao

Someone once told me I didn't have a face for poker that's why I'm so scared to play a live game and have stuck to the Internet.

Hey, there might be some cross over here.......

TV = Live
Radio = Internet.

So I wonder what Radio poker would be like??

I saw the show and was speaking with about it to Malcolm Hardwood on Thursday night. Lyndsay gets a large amount of positive feedback, she is not meant to be an expert, she was new to poker and is coming on leaps and bounds. The show itself is designed for people new to poker, she suits the roll perfectly as she is in the same shoes as the target viewer. (Or so he was saying)
Personally, I find the show kinda dull too, but I'm not the target audience.

I remember you asking for feedback on your blog, I didn't say what I really thought at the time because I didn't think it wise to discourage your obvious enthusiasm. It seems now you're a fan of honest feedback, so I have no problem saying what I think.  :D

I thought it was dull and contained no original perspectives whatsoever. Not throwing abuse at you for the sake of it, you can obviously string a sentence together, I think you need to strive for originality though. Hope you take these comments in the spirit in which they are intended (constructive) and not just me having a pop.
