Title: Uncle Tank
Post by: thetank on May 16, 2006, 06:24:45 AM
The phone just rang.
At 6am this is usually a bad thing, but not today.
I jumped to answer it as I was expecting news.

Just after 2am this morning my sister gave birth to a bouncing baby girl (7lb 5oz)

Baby Emma is doing fine, her mother is exhausted (it was 2 weeks, 3 days overdue and it was a cesarean gig) but is going to be fine.

Off up on the train in a few hours to say eh-o. (and swipe a piccy)
I'm dead dead excited, this is the first of the clan to sprout a sprog. Dead relieved too, as big sis hasn't been to comfortable this last week.

 :) :) :) :) :) :) :)  :dd: :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Congrats to your sister, who - after all - did all the hard work.

'Uncle Thomas, can I have some money please? Mummy says you have lots of it.' These will be Emma's first words. You will just need to hope they are not said in that order.

Unfortunately Emma has been set with a bit of pneumonia. She is currently in an incubator.

The good news is that, although she was on a ventilator all morning, she was moved off it this afternoon. Everything else is ok, she looks strong for a new born baby.

She's a big baby (Misquoted the weight earlier, its actually 7lb 10oz) and so is able to fight off the infection. She's still in the ICU section of the maternity hospital, but hopefully will be out tomorrow or the next day.

Her mother is in good spirits, all things considered. She knows her ba-bee is a lot better off than some of the others in there, and that it's just a precaution more than anything else. She's been told Emma will be there for 5 days, but with the progress she's already made, is likely to be out and in a normal cot sooner than that.

They wouldn't have taken Emma out of the incubator unless they were sure she was strong enough. Tis all good and sounds like they are just being careful :)

She's in the best place mate. Only a couple of days and she'll be out.

Congratulations Tank!

My nephew had to stay in hospital for a few days and it is a bit worrying, but new born babies, tho' they look very vunerable, are tenacious creatures. I'm sure Emma will be fine.

Thomas my youngest was exactly the same, wee Emma will be fine in a couple of days  :)up It would make you weep right enough at some of the poor wee souls in the IC wards but the nurses are fantastic.
