Title: EUROVISION
Post by: Claw75 on May 17, 2006, 02:59:44 PM
So, am I the only saddo who can't wait for the musical extravaganza of the year on Saturday?

I LOVE Eurovision ever since I was five years old and Bucks Fizz brought home the bacon.  I remember the utter feeling of dispair as poor Scott Fitzgerald with the fabulous ballard 'go' had victory cruelly snatched away from him by Celine Dion in 1987.

And Wogan - has me in stitches every year with his commentary.

In recent years I've increased my viewing pleasure with the odd flutter here and there, but yet to win a penny - my choice of winner usually ends up coming in 10th or thereabouts.

Come on - out of the woodwork with you all.  Perhaps we could have a lively debate about the best ever Eurovision winner (Hold me now by Johnny Logan gets my vote), best UK entry (erm - not Jemini) and best song that didn't win (for me, My Star by Brainstorm for Latvia in 2000 - anyone remember it).

Erm.....I'll get my coat now.

Sorry Ang, but the only thing worse than an Englishman laughing at Johnny Foreigner is an Irishman pertending to be English doing it.

I hate the music as well.

Anyway - I'll stay off the thread from now & not be Scrooge, all power to those who enjoy it.

Don't get me wrong I think the music is terrible, but as the evening goes on and Terry gets drunker and takes the mick out of the presenters and the groups, it is funny, but each to their own I suppose  ;goodvevil;

So you don't want to have a Eurovision party in Glasgow then Rod?  :D :D

I liked the Ukrainian winner Ruslana  :D.  I can't remember if she could sing though.

Terry Wogan is insane. I thought I spoke the biggest degree of p!sh, until I heard him. He is slightly insane.  If I ever got stranded on an Island, I would be the unlucky bugger that had Sid Waddel and Terry Wogan as companions. The next Island along would have Girls Aloud and the cast of baywatch

I think Nicole was Swiss and the track was available in English, German and French.

The Eurovision Song Contest is my WORLD CUP FINAL - love everything about it.

Tips on holding your own Eurovision Party, everything has to be as camp and Kitsch as possible - a sure fire winner is to dress the dog in feather boa and pink trilby hat.

Mr Grumpy here.

Eurovision is more than TV. It is about culture, politics, history, diplomacy and above all love & peace.

I wonder how many of the songs this year will contain the eternal line 'man's inhumanity to man'? I know the Irish have used it at least once possibly twice. Talking of Irish entrants who can forget Jonny Logan - What's another year. That man was Ronan Keating before Ronan Keating was even a twinkle in old man Keating's eye. Trace send it  :D

Watch it with the subtitles on.. They have to transcribe live, and the results are hilarious, plus you get all the lyrics to the songs...

In October 2005 a 50th Anniversary Eurovision special was held in Denmark. The BBC made the worst decision in broadcasting history by not screening this extravaganza (anyone know of any torrents?).

At the celebration the top 5 eurovision songs of all time were announced, they were;

5) Save your kisses for me - Brotherhood of Man, UK (1976)
4) My Number One - Helena Paparizou, Greece (2005)
3) Hold me now - Johnny Logan, Ireland (1987)
2) Nel blu, di pinto di blu (Volare) - Domenico Modugno, Italy (1958)
1) Waterloo - Abba, Sweden (1974)

PLEASE DON'T MENTION IT! I live in Greece and if I heard that bloody song 'Im your Number one' or whatever it was called (the winner from Greece) once, I heard it sixteen million times. I mean EVERYDAY on the radio about 15 times. even now... bag of shells....

He totally sucks, but he gets girls in their late (I hope) teens up on the stage in school uniforms.
