What an absolute arse of a referee......

How can he not allow play go on in that situation.

Not that I want Barcalona to win but....

0-2 IMO.

Post by: Teacake on May 17, 2006, 08:45:07 PM
Why are Barca playing long balls? They need to lift the tempo & play a short passing game.
Ref should have played advantage at Barca "goal" & what about Eboues dive at the Arsenal goal.

Bandit get your Celtic head on this is the equivelant of a 3rd round qualifier for us plus I'd love to see Henke pick up a Champ League winners medal

Arsenal played a fantastic defensive game of football in the last 10 minutes.

Kinda like they were short stacked, look down see K8o and fold, content to be blinded out.

The guy next to me in pub who had the 2-2 draw and Barca to win 3-1 was well chuffled.

think its got to be time for another sing song Kev...

Tot el camp es un clam.
Som la gent blaugrana,
tant se val d'on venim,
si del sud o del nord.
ara estem d'acord,
estem d'acord,
una bandera ens agermana.
Blaugrana al vent,
un crit valent,
tenim un nom, el sap tothom:
Barca, Barca, Barca !
Jugadors,
seguidors,
tots units fem forca.
Son molts anys plens d'afanys,
son molts gols que hem cridat,
i s'ha demostrat,
s'ha demostrat,
que mai ningu no ens podra torcer.
Blaugrana al vent,
un crit valent,
tenim un nom, el sap tothom:
Barca, Barca, Barca !

and the translation for anyone whose interested

An exictement rises from the pitch,
We’re the boys is claret and blue,
Makes no difference where we hail from,
Whether it’s from the south or the north,
Now we all agree,
We all agree,
One flag unites us in brotherhood.
Blue and claret billowing in the wind,
One valiant cry,
We’ve got a name known by everyone,
Barca, Barca, BARCA!
Players,
Supporters,
United we are strong.
Weve had many successful years,
We’ve cried many a goal,
And it has been proven,
It has been proven,
That noone can match us.
Blue and claret billowing in the wind,
One valiant cry!
We’ve got a name, recognised all over the world,
Barca, barca, BARCA!

Barcelona Barcelona
Barcelona Barcelona
Viva

I had this perfect dream
-Un sueño me envolvió
This dream was me and you
-Tal vez estás aquí
I want all the world to see
-Un instinto me guiaba
A miracle sensation
My guide and inspiration
Now my dream is slowly coming true

The wind is a gentle breeze
-Él me hablo de ti
The bells are ringing out
-El canto vuela
They're calling us together
Guiding us forever
Wish my dream would never go away

Barcelona - It was the first time that we met
Barcelona - How can I forget
The moment that you stepped into the room you took my breath away
Barcelona - La música vibró
Barcelona - Y ella nos unió
And if God willing we will meet again someday

Let the songs begin
-Déjalo nacer
Let the music play
-Ahhhhhhhh...
Make the voices sing
-Nace un gran amor
Start the celebration
-Ven a mí
And cry
-Grita
Come alive
-Vive
And shake the foundations from the skies
Ah,Ah,Shaking all our lives

Barcelona - Such a beautiful horizon
Barcelona - Like a jewel in the sun
Por ti seré gaviota de tu bella mar
Barcelona - Suenan las campanas
Barcelona - Abre tus puertas al mundo
If God is willing
-If God is willing
If God is willing
Friends until the end
Viva - Barcelona

In all honesty I'm disappointed that the ref didn't let the first "goal" stand.

Then we would have seen eleven versus eleven and a great game of football, win or lose.

Just another case of the ref playing far to big a part in the proceedings.

It was shaping up to be one of the great games, and at the end of the day I want to watch great games.

Started off wanting Barcelona tow in but that arse of a referee has made me chnage my mind!!

Itw as a terrible decision tos end of Lehman, they scored advantage Barca and the goalie should have received a yellow card!

And the Barca players signallingf or a card should all have been booked bucn of sheating fuckers!

MON the gooners!!

Ohh aye and Big Sol just netted be a £220 profit!  :D
pish big man Keeper had to walk by the laws of the game the goal shouldhave stood as well

for those who dont know the laws of the game, even if the referee had allowed the goal to stand (and he had blown his whistle before giuly shot), he would still have been duty bound to send lehmann off.

He was the last defender
He did foul the striker in an obvious goalscoring position.

so, the Arsenal got off a bit lightly.

Still, a nice few bob profit for me with 17/2 for a 2-1 victory.

I disagree, he could have let the "goal" stand and given Lehman a yellow card.

I don't think anyone would have complained about that.

Mate that's nonsense by the Laws of the game it should have been a goal and a sending off. You can't give the advantage to the team who fouls just to make a game.

Ronaldinho scores three goals.

Bergkamp breaks his legs with a bat.

Ref just gives him a yellow to make a game.

You gotta send a man off if he's commited a sending off offence.

wouldn't have complanned but it would have been wrong. Decisions should be correct not for what's more entertaining.

But what I'm looking forwards to most is Nev admitting a great player from Scotland won it.

Rod you are wrong. To quote the rulebook, the red card offence is:

"denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick."

How can Lehmann have denied a goalscoring opportunity if a goal has been scored?

I'm sure we've all seen instances where, for example, a defender on the line handles the ball but it still goes in the net. The ref doesn't send off the defender, he awards a goal and gets on with the game.

In general I thought the ref was absolute garbage and Arsenal were very unlucky, but I did have a laugh at Arsene "their goal was offside, but I didn't see the free kick which led to our goal" Wenger. He must have the oddest eyesight in Europe.

Quite honestly, my thoughts of tottenham fans have plumbeted to new heights.   There was a twat down the boozer that cheereed  every time something bad happened to Arsenal.  He nearly got beaten up after the game.

Why?  I appreciate you dirty lot don't support us, but you don't support Barca either.  What has it even got to do with you lot?    The bitterness show by tottenham fans over the last few months s unbelievable.  If the best you can hope for in a season is that we lose a game then good luck to you..  To be honest, I'm worn out.  Tonight has taken it out of me and I've had a few beers and can't really argue at this tme of night.

Next month you'll all be cheering on Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell.

Arsenall have done the Premiership proud, proving for yet another season that money can't buy everything.  You should all be thankfull that a Premiership club managed to reach the Champions League final for a second consecutive season and that the Premiership has yet another great season ahead of it.

Well played Arsenal, congratulations for making the final and for qualifying for next season.  Let's hope we can go one better :)

The red card of Lehman was blatantly wrong IMO.

There is such a thing in the game called common sense, and that should prevail overall.  If we played to the letter of the law every week most games would finnish 5 a piece.

Barcelona should have been awarded a goal and Lehman booked I think that would have been a sensible solution.

The referee was a disgrace and cheated the spectators out of what should have been one of the great Euro finals.

I feel sorry for Arsenal, granted Iw anted Barca to win before the game - leant towards Arsenal during and transferred by support back to Barca when King of Kings graced the park, but the game was spoiled by a referee who was out of his debt.  Remember this was the same numpty who sent of Del Horno at the Bridge as well.

I should be happy with the refs decisions I amde £220 profit out the game but I know what it fels like when your team is cheated and when a referee makes many bad decisions, Celtic fans remember seville?

So it is the day after the night before.

I have awoken with a bad taste in my mouth today.

Arsenal lost - gutted.

However again they do it badly - yes they were 1-0 up with 15 minutes to go in the European Cup Final, yes the ref gave some bad decisions (booked Henry when he won the ball clean, didn't give various fouls etc) but he did give the free kick for the goal, he didn't give a goal for the Lehmann incident.  He could of played on (I believe he should) given the goal and not sent Lehmann off - to the letter of the law.  But he didn't, yes it changed the game and Arsenal had looked like a class act for the first 20 minutes - but if any team can hang on for 70 minutes with 10 men it is Arsenal - I guess against Barca that is a dream.

When it comes down to it Henry missed two gilt edged chances - when the final whistle went did the Captain of my team console his players ?  No he played matey matey with the Barca team - I hope somebody had words for Cesc, Reyes, Flamini, Toure - they are still the future of my club.  The first goal was not offside, we were playing Barca you know they are going to roll around, scrape ankles and look for a competitive edge any way they can - if that is upsetting then the team and management is very sheltered.  I think the reactions from Henry and Wenger at the final whistle were disappointing, I thought Henry a bigger man then that - I am sure some/most of it was down to emotion but I am surprised and disappointed.

Well done Barca - your manager turned the game with two brilliant subs, your strikers finished well.  But Arsenal will never be underestimated in Europe again - with or without Henry.

So today head up - look the Spurs fans in the eye (My misses has been a spurs fan for 20 years - even she wanted Arsenal to win, wasn't to happy that Sol scored but she was bigger then I could ever be in that situation), and be safe in the knowledge that we are years ahead of our North London rival, we have the Dutch master to say goodbye to, The new Stadium to say hello to.  There is sunshine behind todays storms and clouds.  Just remember it hurts because we believed - those that mock that pain must have believed a little bit too.  I will never scrape to the levels seen here, I will always take pleasure in a Spurs defeat (I'm a Gooner thats what we do), but I am safe in the knowledge that I will get more pleasure then them next year.

Well played Arsenal thanks for an adventure I never believed I would have this year.
May we go one better next year.

Just another case of the ref playing far to big a part in the proceedings.

It was shaping up to be one of the great games, and at the end of the day I want to watch great games.
Mate that's nonsense by the Laws of the game it should have been a goal and a sending off. You can't give the advantage to the team who fouls just to make a game.

Sorry Div - you've got 2 different things mixed up. A defender handling the ball, but it goes in means he hasn't denied a goal scoring opportunity. Lehman denies Eto'o a clear goal scoring opportunity. The fact that the ball ran on to another player, giving him an opportunity is irrelevant.

Agreed Nakor and having sobered up I'm a bit more positive this morning.

I'm a bit concerned about Henry now, it would have been great for him to say last night that he would stay to cheer up the Gooners a bit but he didn't and I can't help but think he'll go now.  I'd love to be wrong though.

well that was a sombre eurostar journey at 8am this morning.

That being said - I had an amazing day in Paris yesterday - amazingly good natured with no trouble (that i saw) and to see my team in the Champions League Final will always stay with me.

I was in row 76 which is the very last row in the stadium so my perspective was good but the view was a little too far away!  it was a very surreal game for me for some reason, but that always happens in big finals.  Everything felt strange but it was probaby because we were so far away.

I reserve my judgement on henry's / wenger's comments until i have seen them - tho being a bad loser isnt a bad thing necessarily.  it shows passion whcih i like.

Dont know much about the offside goal so again i need to see it on the box - but why are some sating its off and some its on?  Surely its fact one way or the other.  what did TV say?

As for Nemesis and Kev's laughs etc - i shall just ignore it.  I find it a bit small minded but our failures is all they have to cling on to.  I dont rise to it - how can i after a witnessed such a proud achievement!

Anyway - off to delet a few more Henry priceless e-mails - have only had 7 so far today!

that is the 3rd European final i have been to in a row now and lost.

BUT - at least we get there!

One for the statisticians but those 3 finals in the last 11 years have been a Cup Winners Cup, a UEFA Cup and now The Champ League.  Surely no other club has done that??

Nemesis - is still dreaming of 1984 and Graham Roberts etc - shame is he was only probably 10 yrs old!!!  No european finals in over 20 years, in fact hardly any european football at all in that time! the last time they won the league none of us were alive (except maybe Tikay) and it was in black and white, the FA Cup was what 15 years ago?? so in the last 15 years am i right in thinking your only trophy win was the Worthless Cup?????

So when i say small-minded that is what i am referring to - when you are one of the worlds best teams you have some low points like last night - but boy do we have some high points - something to which you will know NOTHING about!!

And that is why i can take the low points like last night and fell ok - coz i have seen us go a whole campaign unbeaten, get to every major european final and winning one in 1993, seen not 1 but 2 doubles and countless FA Cups and finals....

Enjoy today Spurs fans because I enjoy EVERY day being a Gooner

The incident last night happened so quickly that I don't see how you can discriminate between Lehmann tackling Eto'o and Giuly scoring. It all happened so quickly there was a clear advantage gained by Barcelona - as Mr Hauge seems to now accept.

The foul denied Eto'o a clear goalscoring opportunity. Even if the ref had allowed the goal I think Lehmann had to go.

Great post!
Nice to see a bit of decorum.

1960-1985 Spurs were the bigger, more successful club

1985-present day Arse have been the more successful club.

You have to remember that Tottenham went through the Sugar years, Arse have never had a chairman so incompetent in all their history. So count yourself lucky!

in those strategically picked 35 years, yes you did win more trophies but not by a lot (10 - 6 i think) but we still managed a European trophy and a domestic double, 3 FA Cup finals in a row and other European finals.  So yes you had marginally more success but not by much.  I would hardly call it 'your' era!!!

Still as good as Lehman has been, he's prone to a rush of blood to the head. WTF was he doing in the first place? Same old Lehman, lets them down when needed most. I think he might have saved one or both of Barcas goals.

Big up to Sol. I'm glad he's in the world cup squad.

I double checked the FIFA Q&A on the laws of football.

They don't explicitly cover this scenario, but they do cover the handball from the defender on the line...

The ruling is, if he keeps it out, he gets a red, if it still goes in, he gets a yellow.

So, applying that principle last night, the ref should have awarded a goal and a yellow card.

But what about the other handball scenario - if he kept it out, and someone else put away the rebound - i think it would be red then, which is closer to the situation last night.

the offence was still committed.

About 7 years backa s part of my studies I took the referees exam and passed it, not that it means much but for me the decisionw as a goal for Barca and a yellow card for Lehman - he never stopped a goal scoring opportunity because they stills cored.  The ref bottled it.

Anyway bring on the ebst they can offer next year, I fancy a trip to Spain, Portugal and France.  And I'll take a Dutch team in stage 2!

Well ive not been back that long from paris. We had a great time and watching my club in a champions league final is something that i will never forget, the experience of the last 2 days is worth listening to the piss take. if spurs fans can take the piss about us losing a EUROPEAN CUP FINAL just remember that at least we were there.

kev about the 2 points i highlighted in your post. Firstly, yes i have taken the piss about you inabilties to beat west ham and that we finished above you in the league. I took the piss and put a few posts on here about it. the reason i did this is because for the last 2-3 months all you have gone on about is finishing higher than us. you or nem have started several threads, i think at least 6, about when arsenal lose or even when we concede a goal.
i remember off the top of my head "lua lua superstar" "arsene wenger is a disgrace" one about when we were losing at old trafford. How many threads did i start when spurs lost or conceded a goal??? NONE. i saved taking the piss until the end of the season when we had done the job and secured champions league football once again.

Secondly, "learn to accept defeat with dignity" even you must be taking the piss when you said this. how can the fan of a team who appealed for a game to be replayed when they lost it fair and square make this comment???

at the end of the day we made the champions league final, something that spurs have never and will never do and looking on the bright side at least we can have ago again next season.

enjoy the UEFA cup i heard all the top players want to play in that.

ps Skippy im not sure what your problem is but west hams fans opinions count less than kevs. ;goodvevil;

Now you as a club have to re group, move into your state of the art new stadium and contemplate life without Thierry Henry.....  Oh yes.. and i suppose the biggest thing your club needs to do is LEARN TO ACCEPT DEFEAT WITH DIGNITY !!!
I look forward to next season already ... and I for one hope that the @rse/Spurs rivalry goes right to the last day of next season too...

Have a nice day and enjoy all the news bulletins and newspaper articles today.

Lots of love

Kev.

Secondly, "learn to accept defeat with dignity" even you must be taking the piss when you said this. how can the fan of a team who appealed for a game to be replayed when they lost it fair and square make this comment???

at the end of the day we made the champions league final, something that spurs have never and will never do and looking on the bright side at least we can have ago again next season.

enjoy the UEFA cup i heard all the top players want to play in that.

ps Skippy im not sure what your problem is but west hams fans opinions count less than kevs. ;goodvevil;

Have to agree with Dan here  :goodpost:  And also with Nakor's excellent earlier post.

I think it's best not to allow one's angst and frustration to overcome one's class.

Get a grip man, we won't even be this bad if/when you fellas get knocked oot the World Cup.

How prolonged a rubdown do you need to dish out? I think your point has been made and you've started to go over to the bad place.

Sorry, still pissing myself laughing :D :D :D

Classic example of being able to give it but not take it.  And the fact that you are all biting makes it sooooooooooo much more satisfying.

Lets just stop and think for one minute .... Imagine you WON the thing, are you honestly saying you wouldnt have taken every opportunity to gloat and ram it down mine and Nems throat ??

Take the stick, ignore it, get over it and lets move on.

I disagree a big match like this and all the associated pre-match crowing deserve at least a five or six day rubdown.

After all think about it how often are Arsenal going to get beat in the final of this, I think the spurs fans should be  allowed to enjoy allowed to enjoy themselves for as long as they like.

As one of the more sensible @rse fans, I know you appreciate just how much you rely on Henry.... I hope he stays both for your sake and for the premierships sake. It would certainly be a poorer league without him.

I still think he is an arrogant little shit though ;)

A Chelsea fan, a Newcastle fan, a Arsenal fan, and an West Ham fan are
climbing a mountain.

On the way to the top, each is arguing about how loyal they are to their
team and what they would do for that team. As the climb gets higher,
the wagers increase.

Upon reaching the top, the Chelsea fan shouts, "This is for Chelsea !!!"
and hurls himself off the top of the mountain.

Next the Newcastle fan yells, "I love Newcastle ... This is for you my
Geordie Boys !!" and he, too, jumps off the top.

Suddenly, the West Ham fan screams, "This is for EVERYONE!!" and pushes
the Arsenal fan off.

An old one but still funny

One day, a Spurs fan man was walking along the beach and came across an odd-looking  bottle. Not being one to ignore tradition, he rubbed it and, much to his surprise, a  Genie actually appeared. "For releasing me from the bottle, I will grant you three  wishes," said the Genie. The man was ecstatic. "But there's a catch," the Genie  continued. "What catch?" asked the man, eyeing the Genie suspiciously. The Genie  replied, "For each of your wishes, every Arsenal supporter in the world will  receive double what you asked for." "Hey, I can live with that! No problem!" replied  the elated man. "What is your first wish?" asked the Genie. "Well, I've always  wanted a Ferrari!" Poof ! A Ferrari appeared in front of the man. "Now, every gooner r in the world has been given two Ferraris," said the Genie. "What is  your next wish?"  "I could really use a million dollars..." replied the man, and Poof! One million dollars  appeared at his feet. "Now, every Gooner in the world is two million  dollars richer," the Genie reminded the man. "Well, that's okay, as long as I've got  my million," replied the spurs fan. "And what is your final wish?" asked the Genie. The  man thought long and hard, and finally said, "Well, you know, I've always wanted to  donate a kidney..."

The seven dwarfs are down in the mines when there is a cave-in.
Snow White runs to the entrance and yells down to them.
In the distance a voice shouts out "Arsenal" are good enough to win the European Cup."
Snow White says "Well at least Dopey's alive!"
