Title: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: mr_smeeeth on July 28, 2005, 11:04:24 PM I know both the Broadway and Walsall are well represented on this and other forums but i'm curious as to whether anyone plays at China Palace or the Gala (Hill st) ?
I've had a wander past the Gala but it always looks a bit "iffy" to me :) so i'm interested in peoples opinions on it and if the Blondepoker schedule is up to date (the car jockey on the door seemed to be a bit vague) Most opinions welcome Mr Smeeeth ??? Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: ifm on July 28, 2005, 11:24:58 PM i can honestly say i've never bothered/been tempted.
Truth is you can get pretty much what you want any day of the week elsewhere. I was on a table with a fella the other week at walsall who was a regular at the gala, said he'd won loads of comps there and judging by the way he played the standard must be pretty poor!! as far as i know they are poorly attended but to tell you the truth i have only ever met that one player who's been, i will ask around for you though and see what i can dig up, Ian Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: dan on July 28, 2005, 11:34:27 PM im a member of the china palace i joined because they have poker. they used to have it on a wednesday and saturday but i have been told they have cancelled wednesdays. i thought i might give it ago on a saturday so i phoned them up on the saturday and asked what poker they had on that evening. their reply was IF they get more than 10 people they would be holding a tournament. i didnt go and find out the if put me off

Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: snoopy1239 on July 29, 2005, 12:13:41 AM I'm a member of China Palace and I played several times when that wednesday comp was going.
Was pretty enjoyable. Had a good laugh on a few occasions. Depended on who turned up. Yes. There was never a massive turn out. Most I saw was about 25-30 players. Most comps were 2 tables. Meant I could make the final table though. :P I bubbled one night. Came 2nd. Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: ifm on July 29, 2005, 12:16:28 AM Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: BrumBilly on July 29, 2005, 12:18:53 AM I've not been to the China Palace but I have been to the Gala (only ever on a Friday)...the busiest night had 5 tables but last week there were only 3!!!
Value? Got in to a 'discussion' about this with an old pro but as far as I'm concerned it's a simple equation for me at my level of play. Gala - 7 visits to 10 PL Friday = 920 UP Star City 13 visits mix of 10/20NL Wed/Thurs = 408 UP Broadway 3 visits = 140 DOWN The most enjoyable experiences I've had in terms of fellow players/dealers/atmosphere have been at the Broadway. The worst experience (some bloke who couldn't hold his licker threatening to 'bang me out' for nowt was at the Gala...). For me it's simple. I'll play where I can win some cash then take a bit of it to The Broadway to give to my superiors...only a bit mind you...lol. Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: ifm on July 29, 2005, 12:27:51 AM i really must start keeping accurate records, i can tell ya i've been to the broadway 4 times, finalled twice with 1 win, around 1300
Starcity 4 times finalled twice with 1 win and a 5th about 1370 Walsall about 100 times won god knows? about really don't know 5-10ish finalled dozens, i think i'll have a trawl through cheeseypoker and write it down. I am useless with money though.............. Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: BrumBilly on July 29, 2005, 12:32:20 AM Hey Ian,
yeah keep records....it's good to have it in black and white (am I allowed to say that in 2005?) if only to see all your 'cashes' on paper for when u go through a dry spell...one way to reassure ourselves that we can play the game a bit. Also good to see your mate's records and compare % and plays etc... Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: snoopy1239 on July 29, 2005, 01:42:31 AM Where's Broadway casino?

Regarding the Shaftesbury I don't know which thread to put this on so heres as good a place as any. Without getting personal Dani. How would you know you were only there 2 weeks and if memory serves me well i requested you were taken out of the card room because you were crap!!! Now it gets interesting because your pissed at me and your gonna do anything you can to mess me up. Fair play sir our little private club will take on the uk's largest plc casino that has sponsorship. The comments I have heard from your ex pun ters gives me hope and confirms my decision to get you out the card room! Did I read right..... you are taking credit for junction 10's success???? Stay there for another year will ya Look forward to doing battle Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: Yogi-Bear on July 29, 2005, 10:44:42 AM OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Don't ya love it when 2 people get all annoyed and angry with each other. Can only be a bonus to the poker players having the supervisors trying to go one better than each other. Happy Fighting Boys. Yogi Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: phoenix96 on July 29, 2005, 12:27:42 PM hi all, i manage a small cardroom in Nottingham with average 90 players per comp ranging from 10 pounds up to 300 pounds depending on night and week, i have visited Gala Birmingham several times to work and find their cardroom small but cosy (5 tables at the moment but growing to 6 soon) i believe there is a place in the market place for 5 and 10 pound nights weather it be for beginners or novices,so get down and support the poker boom in all cardrooms and you will all end up with what you want, better players, bigger prize pools and entertaining nights out with mates. Any comments please reply tnx

Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: Ironside on July 29, 2005, 02:12:09 PM so are all these fighting cardroom bosses going to sit in 1 rooms and disscuss the future of poker?
or will ego's get in the way Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: Dani Versace on July 29, 2005, 02:31:29 PM regarding juncion 10, yes i would like to think i played a part in the rising of its success as ive been there for nearly three years now, as for taking credit, personally i dont write the articles in poker europa and the newspapers, so i suppose its purely down to the people that write the articles, zaks brought alot to the cardroom within the past year and its only inhance what we already have.
as for our ex punters, if u had been in the game long enough u would realise certain players go where the wind blows, it was only the other day i had a conversation with a few of them, they had a lot of possatives to say about broadway, its a nice place, comp meals etc etc, but then thay said they have some muppet running the room ( i wonder who that could be? dik) ok son less of the personal stuff how old are you again? the proof is in the pudding i guess, so ill see u in a year if u still have a cardroom Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? As for sitting in one room together, I have no problems in doing this and I think Good Ole Yogi maybe in the process of arranging it!! Just wondered who Junction 10 would be sending... I suggest Zak as he knows a thing or two about poker!! :o Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: Dani Versace on July 29, 2005, 05:59:43 PM yep i could sit in a room with you no problem, while we ont he subject of sending folk, from your place i would send big dave because he also knows a thing or two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: dik9 on July 29, 2005, 07:16:38 PM As it happens, I am proud to say I would be happy to send any of my regular dealers, they all know poker!
BTW Big Dave came 1200th in the WSOP so a big up to him! Which could leave me to a completely different thread. He qualified online with Betfair was flown out for day 1C had a ten hour flight and landed at 5am had to play at 11am, played for 15 hours then had to get up early(jet lagged) and played for another 8 hours before getting outdrawn with his trip A's by runner runner for geezer to hit flush. Online Qualifiers had to go on scheduled flights at stupid times, and I am sure jet lag does take its toll. But what would have happened if his flight was delayed?? Title: Re: Birmingham's misc' Casinos ? Post by: ifm on July 29, 2005, 07:24:12 PM Well done Dave!!
Terrible to go out on such a beat but hey surviving day1 was a feat in itself. Strange flying arrangements though, you'd think he's be out there early enough to acclimatise. Just say to him "bring it on, i can take him" He'll know what i'm on about, Ian |
