Title: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: GlasgowBandit on May 23, 2006, 03:27:37 AM Playing a very tight cash game at the Cincinnati no messing about and every showdown seen both players had the right to be in sort of stuff.
I sat down with £80 was a £1/£2 game. Slowly worked it up to just shy of £200 after taking a few nice pots. In the big Blind I finds A 4 both spades. UTG +1 and SB both limp in I raise to 6, UTG + folds and the small blind calls. Flop is A K Q (rainbow) SB checks, I check turn is 4c SB checks again I puts in 8 SB comes over the top with another 12. What to do? Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: GlasgowBandit on May 23, 2006, 04:05:03 AM I thought my Ace was good and was trying to induce him so I could get maximum out the pot.
Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: ifm on May 23, 2006, 04:24:16 AM Quite odd, most people with a monster (straight, trips) flat call here, looks like a steal to me but you need to bear in mind you will almost certainly have to call another big bet if you call.
So options are fold or raise, this is where knowledge of the player comes into it, is he capable of making a move like that (bluff reraise?) or is he more the solid type? How much has he got back? I'd reraise personally, at least you find out if he likes his hand :D Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: GlasgowBandit on May 23, 2006, 04:40:05 AM Quite odd, most people with a monster (straight, trips) flat call here, looks like a steal to me but you need to bear in mind you will almost certainly have to call another big bet if you call. Anyway I re-raise all in hoping to force him off the hand he called instantly I had hardly even got my chips over the line and he turned ove TJ. All the hard work down the seanny and now am operating at a loss. It all went downhill after that I got outdrawn on 3 seperate occasions. Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: Royal Flush on May 23, 2006, 01:04:37 PM My tip is not to raise A4 out of position against solid players who have limped UTG!
Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: ifm on May 23, 2006, 01:08:17 PM Allin was a bit strong!!
As i said a reraise will tell you if he likes his hand, another 20 or so will tell you he has it!! Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: TightEnd on May 23, 2006, 01:08:48 PM don't raise pre flop in cash....you will have no idea if your A is good on a flop with an A on it and then try to keep the pot as small as possible by check calling.
Why do you want to play a big pot here...? keep it small Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: JungleCat03 on May 23, 2006, 01:21:59 PM If the games been v tight as you say then A4 is prob not good here. I might flat call to try and stack TJ if a 4 or A comes on the river but i'd be trying to get out of this hand as cheaply as possible.
Pushing allin doesn't serve much purpose. You might get a better 2 pair to fold, but realistically it's not that likely that AQ or AK are out there. Sure u protect the pot against a semi bluff with KJ JQ or something but these hands don't pose much of a threat to yours anyway. You know exactly the danger cards on the river. The only time u push allin and it works quite well is against AJ or soemthing but if the game is as tight as you mention, then this might fold anyway. Most of the good but worse than yours hands such as AJ KQ AQ AK would have either likely raised preflop or bet out on a dangerous flop to protect their hand/ find out if it is good so it's rarer these are out there. I think i flat call here and look for a cheap river showdown. If he bets big, it's unlikely you are good. In a very tight game i would just fold as I prob won't get paid off when i hit and I'll almost certainly need to hit. Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: GlasgowBandit on May 23, 2006, 03:11:39 PM Thanks for the opinions guys, I knew straight away as soon as I pushed Iw as doing the wrong thing. Really I shouldn't have put any money into the pot at all I should have been happy just to let my BB slip away.
I had played really quite well up until that point and a combination of bad play and lack of concentration cost me dearly. The only sensible post on here! I would also want to sit down with a little more than £80 if I was playing 1/2 Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: Royal Flush on May 23, 2006, 04:51:57 PM My tip is not to raise A4 out of position against solid players who have limped UTG! Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: BigTomatoes on May 23, 2006, 06:31:27 PM that was the mistake bandit - raising pre flop - whats the point? Aspades 4s is a nice hand to see a free flop with in the big blind - take the free flop then play your 2 pair , flush draw etc strong on the flop if it comes - if not it hasnt cost you anything has it? in this case a raggy hand has cost you about 200 quid because you overplayed it. live and learn though as they say Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: TightEnd on May 23, 2006, 06:33:56 PM The only sensible post on here! I can honestly say that I have never and will never limp a hand preflop and then fold for a 2*bb raise when we are both sat on 100BB stacks, ever Title: Re: Cash Game Opinions Please Post by: Royal Flush on May 23, 2006, 07:36:41 PM I'm still wondering what possible hand UTG+1 can have to limp for £2 and fold for £4 more I can honestly say that I have never and will never limp a hand preflop and then fold for a 2*bb raise when we are both sat on 100BB stacks, ever Dont you just want to get in that game!!
