Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 24, 2006, 01:19:59 PM
Ok, is there anything else I'll need to sort out apart from getting an ITIN number, travel insurance etc?

The ITIN number is only needed if you win any decent cash .... you needn't have bothered :D

You don't need a visa if you have a machine-readable passport and go under the Visa-Waiver Program.

OK you may scoff, but its a dry heat out there, and we are used to being damp most of the time. I can guarantee that your lips will be a pulpy bloody mess within 3 days of getting there if you don't use lip balm :)

This is a bit of a weird one.  I don't know about anyone else, but I was quite affected by the altitude out there, so I would take a decent nasal spray - the one I got out there was useless.

It never gets to me but I have bought the saline nasal sprays for peopel I have been with before and they say it's helped em. You can buy em in most hotel gift shops.

All that air conditioning does lead to some, err corkers, shall we say :)

Air Con gives me a stinking sore throat - I'd want some throat pastilles.

Don't forget clean underwear btw..

I got my application for ITIN back two weeks ago from USA Embassy. They have sent it to USA for processing and will be given "within 10 weeks" Only problem is I fly to Vegas in less than 8 weeks time :(

you can get an itin number from the balagio

Title: Re: Vegas Checklist

Vinni is right, go to the Bellagio and speak to the cardroom manager, he will fill in all the paperwork and get you the number in a couple of days top whack, slip him $20-$30 dollars as he is doing you a big favour.

I cant tell you how important it is to get this before you play, Im sure Cupcake wont mind me telling people that someone tried to charge us $30k to get him an ITIN number when he cashed in the big one last year, we went to the Bellagio and got it the next day for a small amount.

Its a money making scam of epic proportions out there.

Isn't that a bit like an athlete saying he doesnt want to go to the Olympic games because he will need a bit of luck on the day to win ??

Surely the WSOP is the "Olympic games" of poker, and I would have thought that it is every poker players dream to play it ...   Any thoughts ??

The Olympic games is a very small field of the top athletes of the world.

The WSOP is the largest poker field EVER and has the weakest field of an event with that buyin

Title: Re: Vegas Checklist
Post by: Colchester Kev on May 26, 2006, 05:50:22 PM
not neccessarily, the olympic games has athletes from countries that have no chance of even finishing as high as 2nd last in the 1st qualifying heat ...  and yes the majority of the field are weak in the wsop ... BUT the BEST players in the world are always there.

I understand that you think you are not getting positive value for your entry fee, but if like many others you qualified on line this is surely negated.

or is that you just aint ready for the WSOP ??

Title: Re: Vegas Checklist
Post by: thetank on May 26, 2006, 05:57:37 PM
Flushy is talking nonsense.

The WSOP main event is 0% luck and 100% skill.

Over the course of 100,000 main events, the best players will end up with the money.

It's a pity we humans generally live for less than a hundred.

Ok, Flushy may have a point.

WSOP main event is for tourists. I'll probably still play the odd satellite though, because after all, I am a flippin tourist.

Put a swimmer from a land-locked African desert country in the Olympic 100m Freestyle swimming heat and they're dead money.

Put someone who learned NLHE 10 minutes ago in the WSOP main event, and they're dangerous.

Like the dead money that finished 2nd in the wsop last year....

Yes its true all the top players in the world play it, much like the WPT championship, which is clearly a much better event to decide the world champ.

I am sure it is +EV but as tank said i just wont live long enough to see that. Given that i play for a living i will never enter a situation where i cant overcome the variance. Unless its insane +EV

Finally, i have always been ready :D

Hope to be out there anyway for a holiday at the same time and will concentrate on having a laugh rather than playing the most important comp of my year!
