Title: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: ayrshireChris on May 27, 2006, 02:21:05 AM I finally got my arse in gear and went down to cincinnati's for a live game. I thought i did not too bad given that i'd not played live before. I lasted without a rebuy and decided to take a top up as i was a wee bit low on chips. I ended up going out when the blinds were catching up with my chip stack and i took a chance on Qs 7s when it had been folded round to me in late positiotn. I got called with 8s 8c and didn't hit anything.
All in all it was a good night. There was some strange play at my table when three guys who arived together ended up at the same table as me and were slugging it out like you wouldn't believe. but it made some interesting viewing, even if some of the other players were complaining about it a bit. One thing i will say though is that it's a different game playing live to playing online. Admitttedly you have a bit more time to make decisions, but it doesn;t feel lie it. a minute under 9 pairs of eyes is a lot shorter than 20 seconds with a little time bar ticking down. I went in with a game plan, which was to try and play tight and not get ripped in the first few hands which i achieved. When i first hit the table i was pretty nervous. Every time i went into a pot the ol' heart rate took a step up. I was quite surprised at that as i'm a bit on an adreniline junkie and normally i have to be doing something dangerous to get a reaction like that, but i think i managed to avoid looking like a nervousr wreck. I managed to take a couple of pots with well thought out (at least i think they were) bets, so i couldn;t have looked like i had grown gills and fins too much. To conlcude, i had a great night and will be back for more, although i think i need another couple of reads at Dan Harringtons book ( and maybe a better hand then Qs 7s next times) :-) Take it easy all Chris Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: Teacake on May 27, 2006, 09:45:41 AM Was it Thursday night you were in? If so there were a lot of Blondes playing (myself, Scottish Dave, Tank, Cambo to name a few) & you were prolly on a table with at least one of us.
Hope you enjoyed it as it can be quite nerve wracking playing in your first live comp. BTW well done to Dave for his 4th place finish Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: Jinky04 on May 27, 2006, 12:15:45 PM aye 4th place and he still wisnae happy.....

It was as if my cards were see thru....lol...My tells were so clear, even to me...lol As u say my intentions were just simply not to get embarrassed or laughed at and after being a veteran of 5 live appearances,I got my 1st pay out..which although not a lot, delighted me at the time... I'd like to thank teacake for not playing that night as he is a bit of a nemisis for me having knocked me out twice!!!!....my A7 just wouldnt hold against his gambling KQ...on the final table..we were both short stacked..good player that beenie wearing guy Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: Cybertim on May 27, 2006, 02:15:50 PM I tried bluffing teacake at the blonde bash when he was sitting with Four Kings dohhhhhhhhhhh ;)
Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: thetank on May 27, 2006, 04:13:17 PM First time I played Teacake, I tried to run over him. I wasn't sure who he was at the time. "I'm the top blonde at this table" was how he verbally chastened me. Eeeek
Twice I raised him, twice he played back at me. Messing with the guy cost me mucho chips. Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: GlasgowBandit on May 27, 2006, 04:31:12 PM My first live game was in the Stanley, and boy was I nervous. I don't think I gave much away as I had played quite a bit online and watched a lot of poker on TV so I was fairly comfortable with the chit chat and the given names for certain hands.
I finnished 5th out of 58 and the buggers done a deal as soon as I was eliminated I went to war with the CL who had 8 - 3 and I had big slick first two cards out 8 8 the rest is history. Was quite happy with performance overall though reached final table, alot to be said for tight but aggressive!

yeah, i was in thursday night. I started at table D, upstairs and to the right. I got moved to (strangely) table D after the break, which was downstairs. i was the tall scruffy looking guy with long hair. i hung about for an hour or so after i went out and had a couple of beers which were not too bad considering i'd just lost 40 quid ;-) To be serious, it was nerve wracking, i did not want to look like and idiot, but i wanted to try and play a bit of poker.I will definitely be back and one of you guys should come and find me and buy me a beer. :D Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: thetank on May 28, 2006, 04:16:27 AM Hey, I was at that table, I think I know who you are now, the chap in seat 4. There was a right nutter there in seat 8, paying off big style-e.
This hand was a belter.... Flop 225 Older manny bets 2k, nutter raises to 4k, man goes all in for around about another 10k, nutter calls Old manny says "I think you have me outkicked" and shows 26o AS the older gentleman had just been moved to the table, he hadn't seen nutters greatest hits. I catch his eye, smile, and shake my head slightly. His deuce will be good. Sure enough, nutter shows K9o :D Will say eh-o next time you're in. You faired allright, it gets easier after your debut, you'll be less nervous. Just like killing a man for the first time. Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: ayrshireChris on May 28, 2006, 05:36:01 PM I was in seat 3. There was a guy in a yellow shirt on seat one, one of the three crazy fella's in seat 2 and seat 4 and i was in between them.
That old dude didn't seem too happy with the young fella. Were you the guy that was wearing shades? I'm glad i seemed to fair ok. I thought i was quite well prepared for the thing, but being at the table and it was like a blur most hands. I was struggling to work out pot odds, i was even struggling to work out my starting hands in each position. Still, i'll be more prepared next time and maybe i'll get some cards worth playing :D Give me a shout if you see me in, and you can point out any points that my gills and fins are too obvious. Cheers Chris Title: Re: Finally got round to playing a proper live game Post by: thetank on May 28, 2006, 06:07:56 PM Yeah, the donk with the shades and the 36o. That be me. 8)
