Title: Formula one....A good bet?
Post by: bobby1 on May 27, 2006, 06:02:04 AM
I dont know a great deal about Formula one but something isnt right about the winning margin betting on this weeks Monaco Grand Prix.

Expekt bookmakers are 1/2 that the winning margin is under 6 seconds
Boylesports are Evens that the winning margin is under 8 seconds

The Monaco Grand Prix is usually a tight event given the unique nature of the course it is unusual for anyone to get away from the field unless there is a pile up.

The last nine winning margins were in seconds (2005 first)

13
0.4
1.88
1.29
4.3
1.16
4.26
4.55
1.23

If last years winning margin is just a blip then Evens under 8 seconds looks a great price especially next to the 1/2 under 6 seconds with a different firm.

Does anyone know any reason why last years winning margin is so out of line with the others?

If it is just a statistical blip then I think this is worth a bet. Qualifying starts at 10.00am Saturday so the market may finsh then or be repriced after qualifying.

Thanks

Monaco is so unpredictable. Anyone from Schumacer to Barrichello could win.  Any amount of bad luck, no matter how small can spell disaster for a driver's race. Back in 2000 Coulthard was help up for around 40 laps by an Arrows driver Bernoldi and it ruined his race.

However I would put Kimi Raikonen as my favorite for the race followed by the other usual suspects.

shit, Schumi placed at the back of the grid for a bit of naughty driving in the pole runs. That could be bad news for this bet, lets hope the other contenders can get by Webber in his Williams who is now 2nd on pole.

The course itself is very tight so there tends to be a lot of traffic, I like this bet a lot

Schumacher is going well

I think Schumacher is innocent.  I know he has a dodgy record over the years, but I don't think he would deliberately do that

Win lose or draw this was a good spot Bobby.

If it goes down dont try and explain the term "value" to anyone - I've given up on that.

Well it couldnt have gone much worse for this bet, Webber and Raiki didnt finish the race after being in the top three and Montoya got stuck behind the traffic and then drove safely to ensure second place. Schumi came from last to finish 5th.

Bugger!!

Good spot on this bet, shame It didn't play out though, it would've had Raikkonen not had engine problems AGAIN. I've only been paying close attention to F1 since last year, thought Raikkonen should of won last year, and has done well in first few races of this season, shame his car is so unreliable.

Yea mate I agree,  Alonso is a great driver, but Raikkonen is every bit as good.  I wouldn't rule out Schumacher yet either. He may be going off just a bit. But even at 90% of what he used to be, he is still better than most of the field out there. I can see him still fighting back this year for the title.  But Alonso must be the favorite due to the points difference

My favorite driver on the grid is Jacques Villeneuve. Actually, he is probably my favorite sportsman.

Villeneuve was great for the first few years he had in F1, the Williams was the best car & team at the time. I'm surprised he never went back to the States where he was awesome, particularly on the Ovals.

He's one of the few characters left in F1, more eccentrics needed like him.
