Title: Stars Turbo help Post by: Bertpup on May 27, 2006, 02:46:26 PM I've started to multi table the $15 turbos on stars . Just wondering what ranges of hands people would be calling with in a spot like this.
PokerStars Game #5067099174: Tournament #25451425, $15+$1 Hold'em No Limit - Level VI (100/200) - 2006/05/27 - 09:34:37 (ET) Table '25451425 1' 9-max Seat #1 is the button Seat 1: scheleronny (1590 in chips) Seat 2: notringopaul (1030 in chips) Seat 3: Bertmobile (2595 in chips) Seat 5: cavendish66 (1990 in chips) Seat 9: Drchan87 (6295 in chips) notringopaul: posts small blind 100 Bertmobile: posts big blind 200 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Bertmobile [x x] cavendish66: folds Drchan87: folds scheleronny: folds notringopaul: raises 830 to 1030 and is all-in So what would be called in a spot like this? Also opponent is typical run of the mill player not overly tight and aggressive. Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: Ironside on May 27, 2006, 03:19:42 PM i wouldnt call in this spot without a pair over 9s or an ace jack or bigger
there is no need to get fruity in a stars turbo they are not much faster than some sites normall STTs a call by you would be for nearly 50% of your stack and there will be better spots where you can get your chips in first Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: thetank on May 27, 2006, 03:54:32 PM You wanna avoid racing for half your chips or more when you've doubled up. As Ironside says, no need to get fruity. But your opponent is in a must move situation.
Its 830 to call, when did, a third of become nearly 50%? Folding brings 2395 with 5 left (hardly a lock on a prize) or Calling results in either 1565 with 5 left (worse, but not too much) or 3625 with 4 left (a bruising stack, bubble time, let chip leader slap you about for a couple of rounds and we're there.) What's more, he's in the small blind. A seat for fib telling if ever there was one. So he's not overly aggresive, but things are changing for him, this is a good spot for him to steal and get chips he desperately needs. You really don't want to know my raising standards for the small blinds spot. I'm calling in the big blind with any pair, any ace, and big kings. You call a man here with K8s and even if you lose, you might be getting a few walks later on. Folding 88 or A10 here is way way too tight IMO Ironside. Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: Bertpup on May 27, 2006, 05:53:22 PM thanks for the replys. I have been calling here with the range that you have said tank. However i sometimes lob away crappy little aces or 22-55. Can i ask if you had 4500 chips at the start of this hand would your range increase or decrease?
Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: thetank on May 27, 2006, 06:30:44 PM Increase, If you have 4,500 chips, its likely that the other guy at the table doesn't have 6,500.
Winning the hand will likely give you a significant chip lead on the bubble. That's where the fun (and oodles of profitable steal situations) is at. Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: clayftknight on May 27, 2006, 09:01:00 PM This is one of those hot spots in my opinion where profit is won and lost.
any pair, any ace, most kings and chuck in QT, JT, maybe T9s depends on the player....if it's tank I'm calling with Q8. Important point tank made, a call here will slow them all down next time you are big blind.... they'll be thinking 'he is too stupid to fold, damn calling station, wait til I get a big hand I'll get him' ...........then they fold :) Oh btw......... tank moving from the small blind comes after he folds it after a pause on the previous circuit..........damn I've said too much Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: Rupert on May 28, 2006, 02:20:23 AM A very standard situation, read this article: http://zeejustin.com/articles.php?art_id=9
Quote According to Poker Stove, the following hands will win at least 58.2% of the time against a random hand: AA – 55, AKs – A4s, AKo – A7o, KQs – K8s, KQo – KTo, and QJs – QTs. There are no other hands that will win more than 58.2% of the time against a random hand. Note that these hands account for 18.4% of all hands. Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: thetank on May 28, 2006, 02:23:38 AM after a pause on the previous circuit.......... Means he's probably playing more than one table :D Title: Re: Stars Turbo help Post by: clayftknight on May 28, 2006, 05:42:01 PM Nice escape tank :)
