however, 3 films that if I turned the TV on and chanced across the opening credits it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to turn off Last Samuri Star Wars Zulu Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: elblondie on May 28, 2006, 11:46:20 AM Ok Guy Richie has lost the plot nowadays but Snatch and Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrells were just brilliant
True Romance and Pulp Ficton were definately the peak for the guy with the chin, but 4 Rooms & Resorvoir Dogs were pretty good as well Agree the opening scene from Private Ryan is the best war scene ever! and of course I agree The Good The Bad & The Ugly was the best Wessie ever when i was a kid I alway like Nicholas Roeg films .... Walkabout, Jubilee, etc etc...but they are all a bit dated now Get Carter was my favourite gangster film as a kid as well...although the Godfather is probably unbeatable in this catagory Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: Colchester Kev on May 28, 2006, 11:57:10 AM Now Dave, we all know what the attraction is in you picking walkabout ... Jenny Agutter in the buff for 70% of the film !!!
the "Heist" films... Snatch, Lock stock..etc are all good, But watch Layer Cake ... cracking film. Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: elblondie on May 28, 2006, 12:01:46 PM Layer cake was good, but Snatch and Lock Stock were better because they were funny as well.
Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: gatso on May 28, 2006, 12:03:33 PM Agree the opening scene from Private Ryan is the best war scene ever! I made the mistake of sitting in the front row of the cinema to watch this. That scene is so realistic I felt like I'd been shot. It was rather strange watching the whole audience stagger rather than walk out at the end. Just misses out on my top 3 though. I'm going with Shawshank Redemption Fight Club Usual Suspects but it was a tough decision Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: Sark79 on May 28, 2006, 12:07:48 PM I would put Cider House Rules in there as well. But I usually put that in my Top 4 film list.
Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: Newmanseye on May 28, 2006, 12:39:47 PM I've yet to see a world class 3.
Here are my picks. (1) The Seven Samurai (2) The Empire Strikes Back (3) Jerry Maguire ( yes its soppy, but a great movie for a lost soul. and if i was allowed a fourth it would be Shogun Assasin - full gore Japanese version Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: rivered on May 28, 2006, 01:48:15 PM 1. Swingers
2. Space Camp 3. Leon Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: bone1986 on May 28, 2006, 02:04:51 PM As most of my favourites have already been posted I'll give a few more to think about.
American History X A Bridge To Far The Oultlaw Josey Wales The Magnificent Seven Dirty Harry Bridge Over The River Kwai Battle Of River Plate Spice World Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: Josh on May 28, 2006, 06:17:40 PM Ican't believe Crah hasn't been mentioned.
Fantastic film. Brilliantly directed. Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: I, Zimbra on May 28, 2006, 07:40:21 PM I really don't understand lists like this - films come in so many different shapes, sizes, varieties, and so on - depending on my mood, my favourites change all the time and as a film buff I could never narrow down my favourites to a mere three.
Same goes for music. Three favourite songs? Forget it... Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: The Baron on May 28, 2006, 07:58:41 PM Oh man 3? No chance.
Godfather pt I is the daddy for me. Other must sees are The Usual Suspects, One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and of course the almighty Star Wars Trilogy. (Indiana Jones rocks too but for other reasons!) I don't really like cheesey epics like Gladiator or Braveheart so for that type of film I'd go for the older stuff. Ben Hur etc. Action flicks are so bad these days that I couldn't possibly put any in my top film list but watchable ones (without the cheese and explosions every 5 seconds) are Heat, Ronin and Collateral. For some of the dialogue written I like films like Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, etc. Noteable mention to Gump too. For comedy scripts you cannot beat Snatch, Lock Stock and the amazing Friday. (Most quotable film ever!) Kevin Smith films rock - if you like that sort of thing, they aint for everyone. As much as I really want to hate it, I cant help but like Pirates of the Carribean too, purely for the Depp genius! Also got to admit to being a huge martial arts film fan. Anything Bruce Lee is golden and early Jackie Chan is different class too. Young Master (Jackie Chan) has the best and funniest fight scene ever. EDIT: After Zimbra's post can't believe I didn't mention Jaws. Best suspense movie ever. Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: I, Zimbra on May 28, 2006, 08:05:09 PM For me, an easier challenge is to name one film per director I would take to a desert island - that at least gives me a chance of getting somewhere.
E.g. if I could take just one Spielberg film, it would be Raiders of the Lost Ark. I mean, it's hard to lose Jaws and Close Encounters... not to mention - well, you see how tough this is already. I probably shouldn't go on... Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: Mr_Turhapuro on May 28, 2006, 08:29:22 PM top 3 war films ... saving private ryan The great escape Dam Busters The great escape yes. Saw Titanic at the pictures...thought it was a long film...could do with a nice break in the middle the best bits of Titanic was seeing Kate Winslet get her baps out and seeing Leonardo DiCaprio drown When it came out, I was only 11 so I wasn't really supposed to watch it, I went to watch it with my Dad in the cinema and I remember being really embarrassed about kate winslets boobs and the hand sliding down the steamy window. Definitely not a film for the under 12's! Title: Re: Top 3 films Post by: Sark79 on June 01, 2006, 07:20:39 PM Has anyone seen a film called " Human Stain" ?

Good will hunting Vanilla Sky City of God Also loved all gangster films- goodfellas, all godfathers, scarface, casino, bronx tale etc but wouldnt rate them in my favs, and also absolutely loved rounders but in terms of it being a great film I cant put it up there- I think its more my love of poker that made me love that film if im being honest with myself |
