Title: blondepoker goes all posh........
Post by: tikay on August 01, 2005, 04:15:07 PM
Many of you may not have noticed, but Team Blonde were very busy beavering away behind the scenes during the last week, & we have now gone live with our new Main Site Design.

How could you NOT notice, whether you like it or not? Well, the fact is, many of you never visit our Main Site. This is a shame, because there is a growing collection of stuff over there - some of it's even (marginally) readable and interesting.....

So, what we'd like you to do is take a look at it, & let us now what you think. It's a work-in-progress, & there are still over 40 design changes due to be implemented in the next few weeks.

But we WOULD ask you a favour, we need to know what you like about it, & what you dislike. A few positive comments would be nice, but they don't actually help much, apart from boosting the ego a tad. But negative comments, provided they are constructive, ARE important, and serve a vital function - namely, they help us to improve the site.

So come on guys, let us know what you think. I'm off to The Vic now, and will take a look at your comments later, and I cant deny I shall be nervous when I take a look at what you might say.....But your opinion IS important, so good or bad, off you go, let rip!

Our aim, effective now, is to upload at least one new article every day, and a Player Profile every other day.

Oh, this is where you need to start.....

I would still like to see articles arranged differently. I'd like to seee them clearlt marked TIKAY, EL BLONDE and OTHER WRITERS. Id' like to resubmit the stuff I'm have up before and There's Rob Yongs epic WSOP diary. I'm sure if there were an 'OTHER WRITERS' section many more budding Blondite poker writers have stuff they'd like to submit.

As for the new look. Well, the basic layout is ok, although you need an archive link at the foot of the centre column and while yellow/black/red is an acceptable colour combo it's hardly design gold-dust. And that grill-background is rather difficult on my eye.

I wish I could be more enthusiastic but I'm rather nonplussed by it. Sorry.

I haven't forgiven you for calling and hitting that flush yet Adam. suberb?

On a more positive note, I do like the logo. Kind of a reclining single kappa. Very cool.

to get evryone in with that moan, 1st hand of a 2000 chip 5 five seated game blinds 25/50. Diva had only been to my game once before but we'd clashed in some big hands. his BB I'm in seat 4 and raise to 250 with A6 clubs (urgh) button passes, SB passes, Diva defends his blind with Q,9 off. flop is 9,7,3 two clubs. Diva bets 450 and says at the same time "and I'm not folding."

so its pass or all-in I think. 1st hand, all-ins are hard to call unless you're massive. ALL-IN CALL
flush comes and Diva is smoking a fag in my back garden flicking through Super System 2 looking for my play.
I think Doyle would aprove.

Im in favour of the new look home page, although whenever i log in and the kids are watching, they look at the "reclining lovely" at the top of the page and say ... Dads looking at porn on the computer  :o ... as if !! . If it wasnt for ironside telling me that such stuff was readily available online, i wouldnt even know it existed :P

Together with the name "blonde poker" it's easy to see how someone could get the wrong idea.

The disabling of the right click is really annoying though.

Cant say that im impressed with the new front page look.

Also now seem to be having problems in the forum with the 'show unread post since last visit'
When i click on this, i get no new updates.  Anyone else having this problem?

Title: Re: blondepoker goes all posh........
Post by: Robert HM on August 01, 2005, 08:34:07 PM
Yes. I've got the same problem with the "Show unread posts...... etc", been like that ever since the upgrade. However if you go down the page and click on "No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics." It will show all unread topics with the latest at the top, not as neat but gets the job done.

Sorry but I have to agree with others about the grid lines, it is acting like some form of illusion and difficult to look at for long. In addition I thik I have the same habit as Bongo, I like to open different pages in a new window but the right click is disabled, as there is not much with copyright issues on that page can it be re-enabled (is that a word!?!?)

I can middle click to open links a new window (well tab), but that's just the joys of Firefox for you.

I really don't get why right clicks are disabled, it does nothing useful to anyone and just annoys your user. Who are you to tell me what I can and can't do in my browser?

Post by: ifm on August 01, 2005, 10:48:33 PM
you can sort the open in new window malarchy by using tabrowser.
It open all links in a new tab but if like the blonde homepage it won't you just left click, hold it for a sec and move the mouse a fraction and release.
Also a really handy feature for the live updates is an autorefresh button, very handy.
Get it here:- http://tabrowserfx.go.nease.net/download/TabrowserFX_Install_Lite.exe

Well you could argue, why should you have to install additional software on your machine to view a website the way you want to.

On the other hand if you're going to change your browser in anyway I can heartily recommend the excellent Mozilla FireFox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/).

I really don't like the new front page.

The grid lines are quite garish and go for my eyes. The colour scheme looks awfully old fashioned too. It's a matter of taste, but I tend to prefer a less cluttered screen, and less colour.

As a poker related example, I looked at the Gutshot site for the first time recently, and I thought they had a good layout and colour scheme.

erm, wouldn't that be installing extra software?
i'll have a quick look but to tell the truth i've had terrible times with other browsers, the simple fact is despite everything microsoft are the best and so everybody writes their software to enable full compatability with them.

Internet Explorer is really, really bad though, it's not he best it's just the most used (the reason for this was the subject of several court cases i believe).

And yes, it is installing extra software but i'd recommend it over IE anyway, but this is not really the thread to discuss such things.

please, just remember, you are the first of many, lets make this the best, to hell w/ the rest!!

If you have ever dealt w/ something new, this is an experiment in progress, and I know it is a winner ;)

the poker on tv section is the buisness now if i want to see what my poker options are for the evening i just need to click on on page and not scroll thru 100s of different tv channels

not sure if the 226 and 265 listings should be there or not people know the channels are total poker but and all in one shop might be good too

This is First-Class Feedback, and is EXACTLY why we posted it - do please keep the responses coming.

As I suggested, the site layout and design is a work-in-progress, & certain changes are in train, but your feeback so far will help us enormously.

It falls, largely, to Rhow & Dave to look after the design & tech side, so you will be doing them, & blondepoker, a big favour if you keep this stuff coming.

Thanks. Together, we can make this site the business!

I remember someone i think Tikay posting concerning the fact a lot of forum members never went near the site and others just used its as  a conduit to the forum.

Would it be an idea to have a highly visible  ask the questions type thing on the main site so that first time players/users who come a cross the site have a reason to visit the site rather than come straight to the forum.
Questions could be answered by the senior members etc.

it could be called "poker doctor" or something and deal with speciifc pokier related problems/questions
other than that the site is great apart from photos of loads of ugly blokes.....and tikay ;D

Agreed Bongo. I've been using it for about a year now.

Vastly superior to IE  imo.

same problem for me with the show unread posts bit , front layout is a bit garish but not too bad, the site has inproved a bit with the features being updated on a more regular basis

Hi
I like it, i think the layout has a more "modern" feel to it that works well. I perfer the typeface as well.
Still not keen on the yellow though, whilst not as sickly, a little sore on the eyes! Not had a long play in the site yet.

Could probably make a good book out of them. Big poker boom atm. Probably sell a fair few copies.

Thanks again for your feedback guys.

The following changes have, or are, being made as a result of your feedback.......

The "right click" thingy has been (or is going to be) re-enabled. It was switched off for some reason.

The Horizontal Lines Grid on the new look site have been vanquished, instead we will have a plain background. I have seen the "test site" & it looks much better without the grid. I assume it will go up in the next day or two - loads of changes are being made, & we want to do as many as poss at the same time.

Forum - the "warning a new post has been submitted, you may wish to review yours" thingy will be re-enabled. That too was switched off, as we had complaints that it was a PITA. But even more folks complained when we switched it off!

We are getting there. Slowly, but deinitely. Like my golf shots, each one gets nearer the hole - just a little, but deffo nearer......

thought the warning was a PITA espically when playing and reading a fast moving thread but its even more of a PITA that you make a post in pidgeon english with the best fact you have available for the real macoy post to be already in the thread

3 hours to work out what PITA was Red?

Try ASIMS then. Similar sort of analogy, but different part of the body

Free drinks for Red-Dog one night at Luton if he gets it. A safe bet, methinks.

You owe me a cuppa, Kev.

Not even REMOTELY right. But, in a weird way, closer than you think - VERY close indeed. But COMPLETELY wrong. Since when was A Pain in The Arse similar to A Spring in my Step? A PITA and ASIMS mean, roughly, the same thing.

Deduct 3 House Points.

Disqualified.

Only one attempt allowed.

Deduct 3 more House Points for ruinng the competition. Now Red-Dog will say he knew all along.

Talking of Rd-Dog, do you remrmber his weird post aboit dream catchers? Well Togi or Wolfy said it was "like a mobile above a babys cot". A baby with a mobile? They do texting?
