Title: Grosvenor Southampton £1000 FINAL TABLE
Post by: snoopy1239 on May 29, 2006, 03:03:14 PM
Hi there from Jen - we're fighting under the Snoopy1239 banner today...

Well it's the final Nine's day today, and we are poised (as soon as Snoops finishes his big Grosvenor fry-up) to bring you the action from the only players to be in The Money.

And here they are:

1 Nick Jenkins   64,300
2 Mukesh Morjaria  24,100
3 Stuart Nash  41,100
4 S. Harris  36,300
5 Paul Traynor  29,000
6 Adrian Royle  89,800
7 Keith Hawkins  41,800
8 Chris 'NoflopsHomer' Hall  18,900
9 Ian Cox  13,800

And the prizes for which they are about to contend:

1 £14,400
2  £7,200
3  £3,600
4  £2,900
5  £2,500
6  £1,800
7  £1,400
8  £1,100
9  £1,100

We lay on the thin strip of grass adorning the Novotel Hotel parking lot for ten minutes in the astoundingly bright and lovely sunshine today with Noflops, who seemed in a good fighting spirit ready to play his first Main Event final table!  Good luck to him and the remaining runners - they're opening their little overnight chip parcels right now and expect action any minute.

Hi, gang!

Unfortunately, as with yesterday, the poor connection means no piccies, but, fear not, I am still taking many a snap, and will post them in the gallery section of the site in due course. So watch this space.

And we're down to 8 with the exit of Mukesh Morjaria in 9th place, winning £1,100

With the blinds at 800/1,600, Mukesh raised to 5,000 in late position, and found the quiet S. Harris swiftly announcing 'all-in' in later position.  It came back to Mukesh who, understandably, made a stand with his Qh Qs, and raced Harris' Ac Ks.

Flop:  6s Ahrt Jc
Turn: 8h
River: Kh

And Mukesh got up from his backwards-facing chair with a "well done boys, and good luck" for the remaining players.  Good guy Mr. M.

We have been (semi) reliably informed that S. Harris' first name is Sid - so we can stop being quite so formal about him... I don't think I've heard him say a word, but he's gone from fairly shortstacked last night to 66,500 presently, and is in good contention for one of those top-heavy top three prizes.

Geezer went all-in for 80k with 7-7, (average was 72k) I called my 76k with QQ....

12th or 13th, $810. He went on to win it. Such is Poker!

Ian Cox has just doubled up off Mr Camel, who no has a face like a smacked bottom.

Camel raised from early position, Cox moved his shortstack in, Camel made the call.

Jacks v Tens

Board came T-T-4-9-2

Somewhat of an emphatic flop, huh?

It's not a bad little field even with the likes of Iwan and Red Dog making up the numbers. Just bokked myself anyway done 3k in the blinds with AQ against the inevitable big blinds aces.

Come on Camel get yourself in a couple of 50/50's you never lose them!

Title: Re: Grosvenor Southampton £1000 FINAL TABLE

Post break chip counts:

Nick Jenkins    68,000
Stuart Nash      41,500  (Formerly Stuart Fox until Colchester Kev pointed out this glaring error...sorry)
Sid Harris        67,000
Paul Traynor   25,000
Adrian Royle   93,000
Keith Hawkins  18,000
Chris Hall          22,000
Ian Cox           33,000

Chris Hall's 22k reflects his double up from Dangerously Low stack which he went for with 8c 9c in the small blind when it folded all the way round.  Big blind Ian Cox had the Ahrt Ks, but an eight popped up on the flop to keep Noflops in the game...

Keith 'The Camel' Hawkins is OUT and is our 8th place finisher winning £1,100

He found those tens that had been so cruel to him earlier on, but the trend continued.

Nash = A-J

Board = 3-4-Q-A-K

Title: Re: Grosvenor Southampton £1000 FINAL TABLE
Post by: snoopy1239 on May 29, 2006, 04:09:25 PM
Well, in the last half hour (the blind levels are 1 hour today) we've had nearly no action other than some blinds moving to a player who didn't post them... as well as a couple of walks.  Not the most fast and furious poker I've ever seen, but there's no really tiny stack and people seem unwilling to make moves which could land them in one of the littler bottom spots.  Although if just one of them started it, they'd be likely to pull away from the pack...

There was a deck change, due to a "split in a card with some fluff in it," apparently.  The boss ripped the Queen of clubs in two and gave Stuart Nash half, which he's now got propped between his stacks of purple 1,000 chips.  It looks odd.

Title: Re: Grosvenor Southampton £1000 FINAL TABLE
Post by: snoopy1239 on May 29, 2006, 04:19:42 PM
And Stuart Nash seems to be the one who's most steadily been building their chips - over 70k now I reckon, and playing more hands (just) than the others.  I don't think I've seen so many walks in the big blind in half an hour for a while...

Anyway, a hand was played just now where we got to see some cards - Stuart Nash flat called under the gun and big blind Nick Jenkins checked.
Flop: Aspades 7h Th  Nick bets out 5k, Stuart calls.
Turn: 8s  Nick bets 5k again, Stuart thinks, and calls.
River:  2s  This time it's a quick check-check as Nick gave up on his 8h 3h and Stuart took it with his Ad Jh.

Grosvenor Southampton is a pretty nice casino, but I feel I must take this opportunity to vent my frustration about one of my pet hates...

The taps in the gents are way too close to the edge of the basin.

One of life's little mysteries.

Grr

Title: Re: Grosvenor Southampton £1000 FINAL TABLE
Post by: snoopy1239 on May 29, 2006, 04:30:48 PM
A couple more hands for y'all -

Sid Harris raises on the button, and gets the, by now, rather customary fold-fold, then shows his Ad Ac...

NoflopsHomer wins a nice pot off Stuart Nash - Stuart raised preflop and Chris called in the small blind, then bet out around 5k on the 4d Qh Qc flop.  Stuart called.  They both then checked the Th and 2c turn and river - and Chris' 8d 8c was good against Stuart's similar but not quite so big 6h 6s.  I wonder what would have happened if either of them had gotten aggressive after the flop...

Then the very next hand Stuart Nash gets a few chips back by taking down Nick Jenkins' 4k raise with a further 10k on top which under-the-gun Nick didn't want to call.  Back to the tableside then...

Oh, and the 425 crew are here and filming - we here that even Vegas superstar Rhowena might make an appearance!

After an aeon or so of passing (with the exception of some interesting re-raising of Stuart Nash coming from S. Harris) -
Ian Cox is OUT in 7th place, winning £1,400

Ian had nursed a very short stack for a while, taking only one stab at a double up in two or three rounds (which he was unlucky to split with Nick Jenkins) and found himself eventually getting the rest (10k or so) in on a Js 3c 5s flop against Sid Harris.  Harris' Jh Ac was good, as the turn and river brought some irrelevant Eights, and we finally are down to six.

Hows Floppy's chip stack looking?

Title: Re: Grosvenor Southampton £1000 FINAL TABLE
Post by: snoopy1239 on May 29, 2006, 05:34:50 PM
Nick Jenkins -- 33k
Stuart Nash -- 61k
Sid Harris -- 126k
Paul Traynor -- 45k
Adrian Royce -- 75k
Chris Hall -- 18.5k

Plenty of all-ins, but with no callers.

2 conscutive hands, 2 all fold round to the buttons, two all-in from the buttons, and two fold folds from the blinds.

the first was from noflops, and then Nick. Both seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.

2 hands later, noflops moves in under the gun, Adrian Royce mulls it over for an age in the big blind be4 showing eights and mucking.

And as the blinds go up to 2k/4k we have another elimination:
Stuart Nash is OUT in 6th place winning £1,800

A big hand developed when Stuart was small blind, and Sid Harris was big blind.  The chips headed towards the pot in a big check-raise on the turn when the board looked like:
3d Ad 3s Qd.  Sid had bet 15k, and Stuart check-raised all-in with his flush: 7d 6d.  Unfortunately, Sid held a higher flush: Jd 5d and Stuart was off to be interviewed on the sidelines.  So the man whom many were tipping as favourite has been eliminated, and the rest battle on with the chips looking like:

Nick Jenkins    28,500
Sid Harris       186,000
Paul Traynor   50,500
Adrian Royle   76,500
Chris Hill         23,000

Thanks to Snoopy for counting in this break.

noflops is taking the bull by the horns now.

He just moved all-in from the small blind, button, AND cut-off. I suspect the third time he had a hand, but, either way, he's not messing around.

All three were uncontested and Chris has added a few much needed chips to his stack.

And moments after passing an Ad in the big blind to Sid Harris' 20k raise, Paul Traynor, now small blind, goes OUT in 5th place, winning £2,500

He found his all-in hand to be the small pair of 3c 3d - and big blind Adrian Royle matched him with his Ad Js.  The Ac fell on the flop, and with no improvement, we are down to four...

Blinds 2,000/4,000, and most of the money still to be played for.

Harris = Ac Ks

Jenkins = Kd Qs

Board = Qh 8d 7h Kh 7s

Chris 'noflopshomer' Hall is OUT and is our 4th place finisher winning £2,900

He made his move on the small blind with J-8, but was unfortunate enough to find Nick Jenkins sitting in the big blind with pocket kings.

Whilst the 9-K-A flop looked emphatic, the Queen turn brought a glimmer of hope, but, alas, it wasn't to be, as the 4 on the river proved.

Smashing achievement though...

What a bok from TightEnd! 33 seconds! Is that a new record?

Anyhow, for those who missed my post earlier ,apologies for the lack of photos, but the Southampton connection has made this impossible.

However, I have been taking many a snap, all of which will be uploaded onto the main site in the form of a gallery within the next two days.

So keep your eyes peeled...

ooh ooh

Just spotted a big hand, most of the chips went Royce's way, which means that Jenkins is low again.

The flop was Kc Qc 7c

The turn and river were blanks, but quite a few chips had been thrown around, including a 10k river bet by Royce which found a call.

Jenkins had Qd 8c, whilst Royce won the pot with Kd 9d top pair.

Nick Jenkins has just doubled up his shorstack in strange circumstances.

K-2 v 3-3 of Harris.

Board = Q-6-7-Q-7

The dealer pushed the chips to Sid, Nick rose from his seat, the players shook hands... then someone noticed the error that oh so many people make.

Current chippy counts:

Nick Jenkins -- 25k
Sid Harris -- 160k
Adrian Royle -- 175k

Title: Re: Grosvenor Southampton £1000 FINAL TABLE
Post by: snoopy1239 on May 29, 2006, 06:43:34 PM

A-K v A-T

No assistance from the board.

Harris makes a small raise, Jenkins calls from the big blind.

Nick Jenkins is OUT and is the 3rd place finisher winning £3,600

Battle of the blinds with Harris in the big.

Jenkins found pocket fours and moved in, Harris called instantyl with A-Q suited.

Board = 9h 8d 7s 5d

River... Qd

EEK!

And on that note, the two remaining players have agreed on a deal.

£11,600 to Sid Harris and £10,000 to Adrian Royle

Seems very generous considering the chip-lead Sid has.

And just like that, it's over...

... with, would you believe it, a proper hand. So, even though there was a deal struck, the final hand was still played out properly.

So therefore...

Adrian Royce is OUT and is the 2nd place finisher winning £10,000

All the chips went in on the turn with the board showing.

9-2-A-Q

Royle held Q-2 (two pair) whilst Harris was sitting pretty with Q-Q (set). Ten river made no difference as Royle was drawing dead.

Which all means that...

SID HARRIS IS THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND POKER CHAMPIONSHIPS WINNING £11,600

So, it's only left for Jen and I to bid you farewell. Thanks for watching, we're off home to watch some TV and get some much needed sleep.

Night night, folks... and don't forget to stay on the lookout for the Southampton gallery on the main site which, of course, will display all the photos that I was unable to treat you with today.

Fork time. Over and Out.
