Title: Heads-Up (1 on 1 match) Question
Post by: Junior Senior on May 31, 2006, 05:33:58 PM
Hi,
I've been playing alot of heads-up 1 on 1 games recently on pjokerstars and am finding them rather tasty - I haven't really played that much HU before and have no idea what to expect in terms of a decent win rate or ROI.

can anyone advise what figures a decent player can expect to hit please.?

many thanks.

what team? - does kev have a team?

anyway, thanks Dewi but that thread although useful doesn't really state what a reasonable expected win rate would be - or ROI?

also, how do you calculate ROI?

calculate ur ROI.....

Take the total prizes won, divide buy total buyins. That then gives you your ROI.

As for the ROI in HU games....mine is 17%

thanks fishy.
I have some work to do then - this year at all levels, mine is just 15% :-(.  I have played at several levels though up to $200's, and they are harder the higher the buy-in.  I have settled on the Stars $50's and am currently running at an ROI of 21% with a win rate of 67% - (from 55 matches)

Baron - that thread was useful to the point where everyone started to attack Tikay's HU abilities!, i know he's a fish but got that man needs a break :-) - cheers.

Junior if you want to get your win ratio up try ladbrokes- the heads up games there are a lot easier (even at the 200/300 level) although you may have to wait a few minutes to get a game going. I play mostly heads up on there every day and it is a lot easier than grinding it out on the cash tables.

Going by Flushy's calculations, where ROI is total prizes/total buy-ins, and his claim that the figure gives him 17%. He has lost 83% of all monies staked.  :D

That's quite some lose rate, he may be better off playing blackjack with his eyes shut.

Its at this point where the pedant within me just has to point out that...

 ROI% = (Profit/buy-ins) x 100

You can use.....

 ROI% = (prizes/buy-ins) x 100

.... but then you have to subtract 100 afterwards.

thanks tank - i had figured out what flushy meant. :-)

Ariston - thanks for the tip, I may have to get on laddies then! - remember its still 1-0 to me :-)  - maybe a rematch is in order!

Since your 1 off win I have played a large number of heads up matches both live and online and done OK (ask chubbs/rob/thewy etc). Get an account set up and lets play, maybe you can give me a game as beating the scandis does get a bit boring.

lol.

I am sure a mught higher ROI is possible, i am on a bad run of them at the moment i think you can win 66%+ of HU games if you know what you are doing. (keeo the pots small!!)

right - this is a small sample but playing only stars $50 HU Matches in the last month or so i have the following stats.  Obviously the larger the sample the better the relaibility of the figures.

Played 65
Won 44
Lost 21

That = 68% win rate.  (I am happy with that but i am sure 70%+ is achievable)

I am also making a note of the players in the following categories:
AVOID!! or PLAY ALL DAY!

tikay (ilkeston) = blind fish, can't see suits or straights
booder (derham) = weak tight haddock
flush royal (brighton) = crazy loose & clueless

usual's really  :D

seriously though - only got a few on there.  What i like about HU is that people play it so badly and i can pretty much play the same way and pull the same moves each time as you never really play the same player twice due to the high volume of players on stars.  - maybe if i start coming across the same opponents i will sharpen up and vary my game a little.

i presume that the only time you will come up against the same players on a regular basis is when you play the higher buy in levels.

you playing the wallsall festival ?

Agreed! - the $500 and $1000 players are probably quite few and far between so you get to play the same goes over.

Probably not playing walsall - have alot of golf on next week. - maybe!

I am still in shock from losing a 49-1 chip lead, i think i need some tips from Tikay!

70% would be very high greg, when i started playing these my first 100 i went 75%, then i broke even for the next 50 odd. To get the best results you really have to be on the very top of your game, any bad play is magnified in HU, a small mistake is a HUGE mistake.

It was more than it came of the back of another game where i have the moron all in 3 times drawing to 2 or 4 outs and he escaped each time.

No he didnt say gg, if he had, well lets just say i would be asking dell for a replacement monitor.

Title: Re: Heads-Up (1 on 1 match) Question

Dear Dell,

I am writing to request a replacement monitor. Once i explain the circumstances in which my current monitor was damaged I am sure you will accede to my request.

Playing heads up poker yesterday, i was getting my ass handed to me on a plate as usual. It's a shame that I can't seem to win as I was once told by a very famous player

"Flushie, with a lot of practice, the right bankroll and a 200% rakeback deal, I am confident that you can, one day, become a break-even player."

Anyway, back to the fate of my monitor. After finding myself in a game with an idiot-proof chip lead of 49-1, i discovered that idiot-proof is not the same as fish-proof and managed to blow my lead in spectacular fashion. I was muttering obscenities and flapping my gills around in consternation when i saw two little letters in the chat box. "gg"

gg.....GG.....GOOD GAME WAS IT????? No IT WAS NOT A GOOD *??!!!! GAME! I CAN'T BELEIVE I'VE BLOWN ANOTHER CHIP LEAD FFS OMG GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.....

.....during my little outburst i was gesticulating with my fins in a highly agitated manner. In the process of this, a fin connected with the mug of coffee i keep by the side of my comp.

 it began to fall....

The next few events happened in slow motion. I shot one of my fins out to grab the mug. As I did so, momentum brought my head forward. I caught the side of the mug, but unfortunately the hot liquid split all over me and the pain of this made me forget that my head was about to connect with my monitor. half a second later there was the sound of breaking glass and fizzling electricity as the inevitable collision occurred and I found myself in the embarrassing position of being on my knees with my head buried deep inside my monitor.

SO, i wish to request a new monitor. You might argue that the demise of my previous monitor was my own fault. A sad situation brought about by my abysmal heads up play, lack of co-ordination and overall muppetry.

I wish to claim a new monitor based on just one premise.

...that all the above occurred purely as "AN ACT OF COD"

I look forward to your response.

Royal "THE VALUE" Flush.
