The blinds are 3k,6k with a 400 running ante. The average chip stack is now 60k ... that's 10 times the big blind Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: David_Capon on August 02, 2005, 03:54:16 PM are you going to be in Luton next week? let me know when I'll buy you a sharpener I will bring a pencil along then :) David Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Jo on August 02, 2005, 03:55:24 PM BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: ariston on August 02, 2005, 03:58:18 PM Seems a shame that these 1k buy in affairs usually end up being crapshoots. Which method do you all prefer? Sit and wait for a hand or go into hyperraise mode and hope that when you get called you get lucky? I always tend to get very aggresive at this stage because if you wait too long you usually get sheriffed by a big stack when you eventually find a hand. Thoughts please.....
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Jo on August 02, 2005, 04:01:43 PM Not sure if I can get much more news from Tikay with his battery dying
Sorry folks - if I do hear anything I will of course post it I am with you ariston - gotta take your shot when it gets to crapshoot stage Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: TightEnd on August 02, 2005, 04:02:27 PM If I'm not charlie bigstack and in the last 15 and it's a crapshoot I've tended to sit and wait for a genuine hand for as long as possible until I reach 6-8bb (below 6-8bb and it's just take a shot time)...using the theory that others will panic before you and you can limp into the /final table. I don't think this strategy is optimal from a making perspective though so in future I intend to go for it earlier and use the attitude that two double ups will lead to a big payday and there are so many comps of this size these days that there's always another one around the corner.

The most important being table position. if you want to steal, the best time is generally to be on or close to the botton. I tend to push With A7+ pocket pairs and Kq-KJ. This may change though depending on a variety of factors including the type of player you are stealing from, if they are tight or loose, as well as your own table image. If your table image is tight you can steal a lot more. Just make sure you dont show your shit cards to wind people up. As long as a huge stack is not on bb, sometimes a min raise utg looks like a monster and it is folded around. Another equally important condition is your chip stack. If you are huge chip stack leader and approaching the bubble raise a lot as people play scared on the bubble. Never be afraid to push against the big stack, he does not want to double you up as much as you dont want to go out. As regards to calling, you have to be tighter than you would be to pushing. I often Fold KQs (infact I never even play this hand in a tourny except when sh or stealing) to a push, simply because it is a little behind to hands which are likely to push, including A2 etc, or a big dog when they actually have a hand. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 05:26:26 PM Now it's Amar Morjaria's turn to get his chips in, he bets most of his 45k stack on the Button, looks like a steal, John Gale does his duty again in the SB. John shows A-T, Amar A-Q, board is... 9-9-3-Q-J, & Amar takes it. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 05:28:09 PM It's all going wrong today for John Gale - know the feeling fella! But then we have more action.... Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 05:32:42 PM John Gale, inevitably & predictably, moves his last 30k in on the Button, & gets looked up by Stuart Nash.
John HATES it when the cards go on their backs, he's dominated by Stuart Nash's A-9, John is a big dog with Q-9. Board... 7-6-9-2-Q....! John hets his Double Through to survive, & he gets a bit of luck at last, but it's a toughie for Stuart Nash. Still, he survies. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 05:36:54 PM Man overboard, the short-stacked S Randall moves in with 6-6, Sonny Osman looks him up with 9-T suited, board comes 4-8-9-4-7.

Finally caught up with update. I am amazed that you sacrificed yourself with a KQ just so you could take over the updates ::) Are you playing in the biggie on Friday? Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: SlimJim on August 02, 2005, 06:41:09 PM Thanks Tikay, and well done Jim Britton!

Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 06:49:30 PM Right, we are back now, a bit cramped, but we got power & (if you can read this) my Vodafone dubree works. We are in the Main Downstairs Card Room, Table C, thats the little sort of "dead-end" at the back corner of the cardroom. The players are just sorting out their chips, & we will be playing again shortly. It's 6k-12k, with a running ante of 600. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Robert HM on August 02, 2005, 06:51:00 PM ......... now posts under the name edith jambit, they posted in this thread while i was eating my dinner, i got back from my dinner and removed the post i am sorry for aloowing the post to remain there for 5 minutes it wont happen again I thought it was Jim Britton, it has his pic (albeit doctored) as well :-\ tut tut 5 whole minutes! Hope the haggis was worth it, or was it pizza? Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Ironside on August 02, 2005, 06:57:20 PM pork sauages with tattie waffles beans and fried onion, washed down with a mug of full fat milk
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 06:57:27 PM Hi b4Matt, & welcome. Now you've broken the ice, more posts please. Ironside, will do. Robert - yeah, proper impersonation, eh? But the real Jim was sat HERE......! And yes, the current plan is to play the biggie, which assumes (we HOPE) that Jen is available. Had hoped to win the entry fee today (minus 20% that Thewy & Brisn Wilson have invested in me, the fools.....) but although i did nothing wrong, I did nothing right either. One of those days. Yesterday it all went nicely for me, today the opposite, but at least I "played". Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Ironside on August 02, 2005, 06:59:19 PM well you can play in the sat for the comp on your laptop tonight
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:01:03 PM Sonny Osmsan & Amar somehow get ALL their chips in with two monsters, Amar has A-6, Sonny has A-7. I think Amar found himself pot-committed.
Board is ......2-2-4-9-Q. Sonny shakes Amar's hand to commiserate with him, Amar says thanks & starts to walk away, before someone suddenly says "SPLIT POT". And it was. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:03:36 PM Nah, cant do that either Ironside, I have heaps of "work" to do tonight. I got behind the last few weeks, & I am determined to get caught up. I've hardly been on the GD section of thre Forum for 10 days, there are heaps of things to sort out, & lots of bits & pieces to tie up - Forum Changes, blonde tourneys, da de da de da., Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Dewi_cool on August 02, 2005, 07:03:54 PM Even I figured out the split pot, great work Tikay & ul in comp
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:07:17 PM Jim Kerrigan has 340k. (Told you he was on fire!). Sonny Osman maybe 190k. Simon Zzard about 120k Amar (I've forgotten his surname, but he's a nice boy, well-mannered, so we will call him Nice Man) has 140k. All those counts are "ish-ish". Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:12:10 PM Thanks Dewi. I was not really unlucky today, unless you count finding medium hands & constantly walking into bigger hands as unlucky....! I played good, as well as I can, but it was not meant to be. Yesterday all my hands held up, & I always found an opponent with a marginally smaller, but unputdownable, hand. Today, not quite the opposite, as I managed to get away fom several hands, but yesterday's good fortune was reversed. No complaints from the ol fella. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:17:14 PM MONSTER pot on! Jim Kerrigan makes a small R, Simon Zzard moves in, so does Amar Nice Man. Jim Kerrigan passes A-9, Simon Zzard shows A-T, Amar Nice Man KQ (KQ....!), & the board comes..... Q-J-8-5-4. So Simon Zzard is OUT in 4th. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:21:10 PM Sonny now moves in for 115k, Jim Kerrigan gives it some thought before passing A-2. I am sat in the corner of the room & Jim is letting me see his hole cards, but don't tell anyone. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:23:30 PM Jim Kerrigasn & Sonny Osman in the blinds. Fliop is K-Q-9, 2 diamonds. Jim checks, Sonny bets, Jim calls. Turn is the A diamonds. Jim checks, Sonny bets 20k, Jim instantly RR'd 80k, Sonny passed PDQ, after taking a sneaky look to see if, by chance, he had some of that board..... Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:25:34 PM And heres a hand...... Sonny in all-in against Amar Nice Man, Sonny shows A-3, Amar 4-4. First card down is a 4, & so is the last card - Amar hits four fours!! Sonny is OUT in third. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:27:58 PM Business is being discussed, BUT..... Both players have been told they CANNOT discuss or do deals, however, "they may pop outside for a few minutes and chat"......(I'm just telling you the facts, before you start!). Jim seems to have around 425k, & Amar 355k. Ish. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:33:31 PM The deal is complicated, because 19th & 20th were both given 1k "off the top", and 15th to 11th were all given an extra 750 "off the top".
By the way, these "off the top" amounts have NOT been paid yet - NONE of them. As The Casino does NOT recognize deals, the "off the top" money cannot be paid until the winner collects his first prize, THEN he pays out this line of losers (that includes me) who have had a bit off the top. And the deal is done, they both take 40k, and are now playing for 5k, & the Trophy, presumably. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:35:35 PM And then a moment of surreal irony. The TD says "Gentleman, as a deal has been done, we are reducing the clock to 10 minutes". Guess they must recognize deals NOW........
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Dewi_cool on August 02, 2005, 07:35:38 PM Tikay told u were unlucy with the KQ worked ok for Mr Nice Man, whilst theres a lull in proceedings though, have you noticed the CPC final on tonite, could be good value as there have only been 3 sats and only 5 entered so far 1 seat guaranteed.
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Ironside on August 02, 2005, 07:37:15 PM so how does these deals affect ranking points
the off the top dont make a difference as they are pre final table i presume? so they all get there normal ranking points apart from the winner who gets 2nd? Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: The Lemon on August 02, 2005, 07:38:19 PM Go on Jim , nice one , Tikay please pass on my congratulations , Paul "the lemon" Muzza
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:39:54 PM Thanks Dewi, I'd LOVE to play that CPC jobbie tonight, but I've gotta drive back to the Midlands as soon as this is over & get some work done. This retirement malaraky is hard work!
Amar's KQ. Wow! He had some backbone to call with that, eh? I moved in with it, & missed. Mr Nice Maqn called with it & hit. That's poker, good luck to him. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:43:56 PM Lemon, Jim says "much appreciated".
Jim is well handy for me, as he keeps his chips stacks in nice multiples of 100k, or 10's or 20's, so it's easy to count them. Mr Nice Man keeps them all higgly piggly. I prefer to keep them nice and neat, usually two stacks, sometimes more. Well, when I say "stack", I mean one. Chip, that is. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:46:47 PM Ironside - CORRECT. Both players get "2nd place" Ranking Points.
Blinds are now 10k - 20k. Mr Nice Man just bet 20k on the end, Jim K called. Amar had A high, Jim had K high.....! Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:54:09 PM So, as this comp peters out to an anti-climactic close, big thanks to Grosvenor Casinos, & to The Management at The Vic, for allowing these Updates. The Managers at The Vic keep saying I never mention them on thre TV show, so I've promised I will this week (tomorrow). Hehe, they'd better be careful what they wish for..... Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Ironside on August 02, 2005, 07:56:36 PM talking of the vic tell brian to get a haircut
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 07:57:01 PM Jim Kerrigan has a little bunch of what appear to be, well, wide (ish) boys watching him.. If I had to guess, I'd say they all have a % in him. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 08:02:47 PM I gather Amar Nice Man won a comp at Gutshot last week. And how about THIS? - TD says "clock is now 5 (FIVE ) minutes.....! Jim says, "we may as well cut the deck to decide". Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Robert HM on August 02, 2005, 08:04:41 PM 5!!
... and they don't want deals! Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Ironside on August 02, 2005, 08:05:39 PM they have already done the deal
plus they have another comp thats just started 5 minutes ago Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 08:07:44 PM Brian from The Vic to get a haircut. He will wish he never asked me to mention him on Poker 425. When play ceased at 0400 today, I mentioned I had to drive home to The Midlands to feed my cats. Brian said "are they the same size, or is there a big one & a small one?". I said yea, a big young one, and the old one, who's very small. So he said "well you don't need to go home. If the big cat gets hungry, let it eat the small cat. Both problems solved then". Charlie - the small, old one, did NOT approve when I told her. Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 08:20:18 PM It's over. Jim had AK, & Amar Nice Man has K-J - and the J fell! So Amar is our winner - congrats fella. Now, about my 750........ Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: Ironside on August 02, 2005, 08:20:43 PM lol
Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: tikay on August 02, 2005, 08:33:47 PM OK, I'm outa here. The Casino paid me 1k, Amar paid me 750, job done. I'm M1 bound, home by 11 with any luck. Night all! Title: Re: European Championships, The Vic European Championships, The Vic - 1k NLH Post by: David_Capon on August 02, 2005, 10:02:25 PM which assumes (we HOPE) that Jen is available. Nah, dont bother playing on friday, do the tournament reports and sponsor me 100% instead. When I win I will buy you a sharpener (whatever that is?).
