Title: Baked Beans Post by: Sark79 on June 02, 2006, 01:18:51 PM Recently when at the supermarket, I thought I would take a risk and try some of the new varieties of Heinz "Mean Beanz". They look like baked beans, but come in a strange mix of flavours. Normally I like to stay with things I know, whenever I go to dinner or order takeaway, I always order exactly the same thing. So this was a big gamble for me.
My two favorite foods are macaroni and curry. When I looked at the various tins of beans, I knew I was in luck as the majority of them were flavoured with some kind of spicy sauce. After a bit of a look, I opted for Jalfrezi, Mexican, Sweet Chili, Tandoori, Madras and Thai. So far I have tried the first four. It was a tough choice deciding which to try first. In the end, I decided to work from the left side of my kitchen cupboard to the right. By doing it this way, it keeps things neat and tidy. Out of these flavours, I would recommend the sweet chili. It has a great taste. The others aren't very tasty. Overall, I would still say baked beans in tomato sauce are the best type of haricot covered bean. However the bean which wins the "Sark Bean Award" is the Butter Bean. I love butter beans covered in butter and pepper. I don't think the standard baked bean covered in tomato sauce will ever be replaced as the nations favourite bean. But it is good to try something different occasionally. Give them a try next time you are at the supermarket. Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: TightEnd on June 02, 2006, 01:23:21 PM 1. there goes my next article
2. I love you 3. Buy air freshener for your house/flat. May I suggest Airwick Glade, jasmine flavour? Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: yt on June 02, 2006, 01:26:31 PM This forum gets weirder by the day :D
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: TightEnd on June 02, 2006, 01:28:26 PM nah, more interesting and varied....
i like baked beans with mini sausages in...yum yum Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Sark79 on June 02, 2006, 01:29:58 PM The folks I share with don't agree with the idea of trying new beans. They feel it is best to continue to eat the standard type of tomato beans. Next time, they will probably demand tomato covered beans.
There are suppose to be 57 varieties. I haven't seen the others yet. I might do a search later on Google, it is an interesting topic. Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: thetank on June 02, 2006, 01:37:18 PM 57 varities? Here's the ones I can think of.

Left over chorizo ? eh ? what planet are you living on ?
I'm sure there is a billy conolly joke in there somewhere. Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Rod Paradise on June 02, 2006, 01:44:20 PM Butter Beans ? I'll move on to considering Jaffa Cakes, another conundrum that bothers me. You could always try finding out why they started putting less and less chocolate on wagon wheels, there used to be loads when i was a kid but there's hardly any now!! Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: RED-DOG on June 02, 2006, 03:33:10 PM I like Jaffacakes best when they're stale and crunchy
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Sark79 on June 02, 2006, 03:39:16 PM Jaffacakes and wagon wheels are good dipped in tea
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: gatso on June 02, 2006, 03:58:47 PM I bought some of the chili ones today, I'm going to have them for lunch tomorrow with lasagne.
I wasn't allowed to do that when living with the ex, she didn't think beans and pasta went together but now that she's moved out I can eat what I like. I like Jaffacakes best when they're stale and crunchy That is just wrong Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Sark79 on June 02, 2006, 04:01:20 PM Good choice gatso. Did you see the full range of tins?
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: gatso on June 02, 2006, 04:05:24 PM I've only ever seen 4 (but can't remember which) at once. didn't realise there were 6.
I await your full report once you reach the right hand side of your cupboard Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: GlasgowBandit on June 02, 2006, 04:40:53 PM Right I love Jaffacakes. Lets talk about them.

Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Royal Flush on June 02, 2006, 06:36:08 PM "just great to use up that leftover chorizo". Left over chorizo ? eh ? what planet are you living on ? I often have left over Chorizo. Stick it in with some bruschetta ham and genoa salami and you have a mean sandwhich! Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Colchester Kev on June 02, 2006, 06:46:38 PM Tesco value Jaffa Cakes are the Biz .... Much better than those overpriced McVities garbage... The tesco value ones have a lot less orangey tang to them and are a far better alternative to the Original :)
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: TightEnd on June 02, 2006, 06:56:22 PM keep going lads, tearing up the draft of the jaffa cake thread as we speak.....
I just think its a confectionery and biscuit disgrace, marmalade with chocolate, i understand the sweet taste counteracting the tangy to provide a pungent mix that melts your tastebuds but I wonder how the idea came about? Who thought as they were buttering their toast one morning: " Now then Marmalade. Marvellous, just right with that chocolate I'm going to have later" just doesn't sound right does it? whatever next Chocolate Oranges? Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Colchester Kev on June 02, 2006, 08:00:49 PM whatever next Chocolate Oranges? Or Pineapple with cheese ... or worse still pineaplle on a frigging pizza . whats that all about ?? Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: bolt pp on June 03, 2006, 05:16:43 AM those new branston beans are the bussiness
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Sark79 on June 03, 2006, 10:57:40 AM This is another food related post, I am afraid.
Has anyone ever heard of a "Hedgehog Loaf"? Last night after the Blonde STT ended ( I was knocked out I mean :D ). I went to a birthday party that was taking place next door. When I got there it was already beginning to wind down and I found that most of the people I knew had already left. As I looked around, I tried to seek out someone I knew. My plan was to stay for 10 mins out of respect to the person who's birthday it was before I snuck out and went home. Over by the window sitting were two women who were looking in my direction. I thought to myself " excellent boss, you are onto a winner here". I thought perhaps they recognised me from my 1989 appearance on the "CATERPILLAR TRAIL" Unfortunately they weren't smiling in my direction, instead they were shaking their heads in a disapproving way. I put this down to the bad lighting in the room and decided to approach anyway as I losely knew one of them through a mutual friend. As I got closer, I eyed a plate which had cocktail sticks with impaled pineapple, cheese and pickle on them. I hadn't eaten for hours and was starving so I reached out to grab one. Quick as a flash one of the girls jumped up and said "!*)((&$^% OFF...YOU CRUEL **&^%$^^% B......D" to me. Now I am used to this sort of reaction, but the CRUEL part confused me slightly. After she had calmed down a bit, I found out she had sat beside me on the train earlier in the day. To be honest I can't remember doing this as I was sure it was an old women I had sat next to. Anyway she said she had overheard a conversation I had had with a friend on the phone during the journey. I had phoned my mate and asked him to pick me up a few tubs of soup, a pint of soya milk and two hedgehog loafs from ASDA. I had then described how great the hedgehog loafs tasted when they were grilled and boiled in the soup. After I managed to convince her I wasn't a hedgehog torturer and in fact it was a variety of bread, she was slightly friendlier. I thought it best not to try the Cacti chat up routine on this occasion and promptly left. I thought everyone knew about a Hedgehog Loafs. ASDA don't even sell Hedgehogs. Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Tonji on June 03, 2006, 11:17:18 AM I've never seen a Hedgehog Loaf, is it shaped like a Hedgehog? But I do buy a "Tiger Loaf" from my local Morrisons (not sure why its called Tiger though)
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Ginger on June 03, 2006, 12:24:52 PM LOL!!! yes, I've had both Hedgehog bread and Tiger loaf, and I agree that Hedgehog is fantastic with homemade soups.
It looks like a Hedgehog due to the slight spikey top on the loaf, and Tiger loaf has a sort of orange stripe thing going on. Both very yummy Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Royal Flush on June 03, 2006, 05:03:35 PM I lead a very diffrent life....
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: Rod Paradise on June 03, 2006, 05:27:10 PM I'd have started on her (undoubtedly) leather shoes - took in the belt, handbag & purse & made her cry that she's wearing the skins of animals who never had the chance to live wild.... then I'd have told her it was just bread......
Title: Re: Baked Beans Post by: thetank on June 04, 2006, 02:54:48 PM Rod gets lots of action. :D
