I am playing a $33 STT on Pokerstars - I am goinga orund all mya ccounts just now trying to either empty the dormant ones by winning or pissing what little funds I have away.

Anyway, I perceive my table image to be very tight, I haven't played a hand in the first 17 dealt.  Primarily because I haven't found anything worth playing.

Anyway, I am dealt As Js UTG blinds are 30/60.  Playing on my image I make it 240 to go, I would have been happy just picking up the blinds so as to see of another round without damaging my stack.

I get a caller one caller who is UTG + 1

Flop comes 5s Qc Ks

I check and he pushes all in I have him covered by a mear 177 chips, this is the 3rd or 4th time he has pushed once got very lucky on the turn.

What do you do?

Well this is the problem with raising so much with AJ under the gun! Also why are you checking when you smack the flop!

I probably gamble as i imagine you are getting about 1.5-1

This is a classic situation which happens so many times.

You have AJs UTG and flop one of the very best flops you could. In other words if it comes AAJ, you will get no action (unless on Tribeca). I normally would not raise AJs so much UTG, i would limp call or fold this early on, because if i'm reraised i find myself calling with a hand that i don't want to. By limping, if it is reraised then i get to see the flop for the same amount that i raised in the first place and for those watching eastenders and on msn, your hand is somewhat undefined and unnoticed.

If i had played AJs as you did, then i would be all in on that flop and putting the decision into my opponents court.

I keep telling myself after these situations  I will never play AJ like that again but invariably I do.  Its like auto pilot switches on and I can't seem to change something I want to change.

Its not a great hand it looks pretty but unless you hit thf lop its not that great.

Anyway I dwelled till that wee beeper noise started and decided as I was biting the bullet UI called he showed Kc Th I escaped by hitting the flush on the river.

Played the hand completely wrong in the first instance though.

You win a nice pot playing it wrongly (your own admission) and now have learnt something about your game, which should hopefully eradicate making the mistake again. So you won the pot and learnt something at no cost - great feeling in poker that.

What is your shortcoming with this hand? Cos it's a nice Ace or cos its suited? Suited good Aces always looks a little more interesting, but in reality the fact that your cards are suited, only gives you 2-3% extra edge. Play it as AJo and if you struggle to not get drawn to suited cards, use the "four colour deck" option, this makes 2 of the suits look damn ugly and not so appealing.
