The push on the turn made me look at his preflop min raise suspiciously so decided i had to lay it down, Aces or Kings im thinkin. So what do you think? Was I right to lay it down, was this screaming high pair to anybody else?

I think you shouldn't re-raise preflop with AJ, that move builds the pot more making it harder to get away from post flop. I've played a few of these $15, $25 turbos on Pokerstars, and people will often min-raise with KJ, JT or less. If he had an overpair or set, surely he would check the turn to you or check-raise on the flop?

In this case i believe you may have had him, utg and button fold to him on the sb, he make a min raise, often this move is made for a little steal when short handed.  I think when u re-raised him if he had AA KK or QQ he would have actually re-raised you right there, but the fact he just flat called suggests he doesnt have any of those hands.

He then flat calls you 800 on the flop, with AA KK or QQ there i believe he would move in on you, at this point i would put him on KJ or even the same hand as you.

ah well, at least next time this scenario occurs i'll hopefully make a better decision, thanks for the advice guys. I ended up coming 2nd so it wasn't too bad.

WOW!

I also re-raise pre flop more. However in this hand how can you possibly fold?!?! You are HU with AJ on a J hi flop with no danger there!!! When are you ever going to play AJ if not now?

i would be tempted to call here. if he had AA, KK, QQ i believe he would have re-raised your raise pre-flop. however, i would not have re-raised him with AJ, simply call and see what comes on the flop, in this case top pair. he check calls on the flop which to me suggests he has a weaker hand than yours.

I believe his pre-flop re-raise is a good move, if the guy re-raises you then, you can easily fold...youve got fold equity as he may have a poor hand just on the sly steal which he would pass to your preflop raise, the fact that he calls the preflop raise suggests a KQ sort of hand and when he calls the flop u have to have him on KJ or JQ.
But as far as im concerned i like the re-raise preflop, if he just flat calls the minimum raise how does he know where he is on the flop?

Preflop you were correct to re-raise as his range is huge, he could conceivably be mini raising here with ATC, (smooth calling is horrible IMO) although I'd have made it 1200ish.

As for the fold, i'd never have passed in that spot in a million years.

Even though i consider myself a tight and cautious player, i believe you had him. The only hands you could be beaten by here are 77, 89, JJ, 10 10 and J 10.

I believe you can rule out 7 7 10 10 and J J as he wouldnt be so trigger happy with his set by instantly pushing his entire stack in.

And i believe you can rule out 89, and J10 by his raise and then call of the re raise pre flop. I think you had him and should have called.

Also, with reference to one of the above posts, i agree with his re raise pre flop simply o try and gather some information as to where he his in the hand.

well at least i did something right with the reraise then, shame the fold kind of messed everything up a bit, one other thing that made me fold was the fact he was 2nd in chips, why would you have a battle with the CL without a great hand especially after my reraise

Not a huge fan of the min re-raise preflop

Can't really tell you if it's a good or bad fold, but I'm calling here...
