Title: Call or Pass?
Post by: Royal Flush on June 05, 2006, 01:01:43 AM
Oppo has been heavily active, in fact he was all in with AK on a A52 board vs a set and escaped! He donked all the chips off, then got them all back again.

On the first one, why did you check the turn?

On the first one, why did you check the turn?

I am either well ahead or drawing to 2 outs, if i am behind this gives him a chance to bluff.

Why check though, i think this moron calls anything, and if i check he isnt checking a better hand , surely the value is in the psuh?

If you checked behind me there, i would bluff on the river whatever came.

Edit, which i think is what you meant by what you said. But didn't you make your river decision harder by checking the turn.

That's why he's checking, to get all your chips.

Exactly, but then he folded.

Flushie, forgive me if i misunderstand, but i imagine your decision was to check and call his river bet but then you changed your mind because of the river card/size of his bet.

SIze of the bet was the reason i changed my mind. The reason i check is to call the river, if he bets the normal amount (1/2 pot) i instacall.

If i bet the turn, say 6k, and he calls then he leads the river it would be my whole stack! However having seen him play for more time i would have made the call.

you say you went out to a bad beat but if im correct you went all in with 2 pair and got called by a full house, not really a bad beat is it?

Good fold.

I think the guy may have hit his own flush

That kind of player wouldve re raised you on the flop with the queens, though if he did have trips once he hit on the turn it sounds like exactly the way that kind of player would play trips/full house

It didnt feel right to call did it?

20-1 not enough?

I believe it was a good and pretty obvious fold. The board was extremly dangerous and you had only committed 5,000 to the pot and his bet was for another 25,000.

I think he may have had a  2s on the big blind, and he may have made a poor call pre flop. He may have hoped you had hit a flush or Aces or Kings so you would call. He was not scared that you had a  Qh because you checked the turn. If it was a bluff, then fair play to him, he made a massive overbet and will lose a lot of money in the long run playing like this.

BUT you won't, its a fold everytime.

it looks like honbi sensed your weakness on the turn when you checked the 2 Queens and pushed all in knowing that you didnt have a Queen and that you would fold. He most probably had another pair in his hand or maybe an 8

Your flop bet looks like a bet with AK that missed (2/3rd pot etc.) however this can also be used to portray this with either a set or a pair, so not so concrete in what it says if the player doing it has some game.

If you do have the Q, then checking after the turn is fine here and not weak at all imo. Checking on the turn makes everyone who thinks that "checking here means weakness", pay you off on river. Its a very standard play to bet flop with top pair, check the turn with a set and then bet the river, when i see this type of play, i am quick to make notes on their strength and not their weakness.

Checking the turn can be seen as very good or very weak play, throw a blanket over these kind of moves and label them all as weak and you will be paying off big hands on the river regularly.

Exactly the point Lee. I check ANY hand on the turn there (except maybe a flushdraw) in order to induce a bet on the river, if i had AQ it would have been nice!
