Just got back from the Irish Poker open in Dublin, and I wondered what people's thoughts were about the orginisation there. I had heard only great things about the tournaments in Dublin, and the friendliness and size of the event justified this.

However, the orginisation would have been shoddy for any tournament, and was far short of what you would expect for a 3000 euro buy in with 300 euro on top.

These are a few of the things I can remember which amazed me:

1) I draw a seat for the tournament and draw seat no. 1, and have a sigh as I dont like that seat. "Ah, have another go Sir" "Erm..."  "Don't worry, lots of people have, there's alot of seat number ones left in there!"

2)  At almost every start after a break, the dealer would ask the players where the dealer button should be, and we would have a back track trying to remember the last hand. Surely this is something the dealers should make sure of between themselves?

3) Any dealer can make a mechanical mistake, but there were just too many:

- The small blind makes it up, and I say "all in" from the big blind. A few secnds later, I have to shriek "hang on!" as the dealer is busy dealing a flop whilst the small blind is still thinking!

- At least twice I raised and the dealer mis-declared the amount. Against Kevin O'Connell, I put in 1800, and heard "2600 to go," and I'm thinking, this guy is a great player, I don't want to give myself a possible disadvantage by having to correct the amount, and him possibly picking something up from it!

Don't want to be a whinger, but I just wondered what other people had thought, as the events only ever seem to get a great press.

This one concerns me the most. You get the odd pissy dealer everywhere, but the ability to re-draw for your seat if you don't like it!

Hmmmm, dangerous precedent being set I think.

Yeah, that one really worried me!

Any poker tournament should be fair, but when you buy in for that much you trust that they'll be no advantage given to everyone.

Table selection is such an important thing in poker, I've heard Mike the Mouth say it's 90% of a tournament, and it would have been far too easy for someone to use this generoisty to gain a big advantage.

Table selection is a deal or no deal situation.  You pick your table and seat at same time
completely random situation, however by the sounds of things it wasn't as random as it could have been

Im a TD/Dealer and I can honestly say I made a few errors at the Western but I can count them on one hand, but I corrected everything so that everybody knew what was going on.  If you're dealing for 12 hours it happens nobodys perfect but at the same time if dealers not paying attention then tell TD. 

What worries me, is that you are playing a 3000 euro event, and you pick your seat full stop! In this day and age, a comp this size should have a computer randomly drawing the seats and displayed on a printed sheet or plasma, no favours can possibly be done this way.

In Barcelona last week they allowed me to re-pick my seat otherwise I would have been at the same table as my other half. We never slow play each other but I hate playing on the same table so I was pleased (but surprised) to be able to repick.

I like the computerised method - much fairer.

Its shocking, not blamming you but its a disgrace that you can change table because you dont want to be on it due to another player on it.
