Title: SB/BB Festival Coup
Post by: TightEnd on June 09, 2006, 07:14:00 PM
£300 freezeout

Festival

Blinds 200-400, I have 10,000 and loose change

Ariston gets moved to the table SB to my BB..He has 8,000

Never played against him, introduce myself to him

He's been at the table two hands

Passed round to him in SB

"It's nothing personal" he says, smiling disarmingly, and raised my BB to 1200. No idea if he has a hand or not or if he's just making me know that he's boss, or trying to

I look down at  Js Jh

I reraise to 3600

He aggressively pushes his chips "all in"

4600 more to you, leaving you 2000 if you call and lose, 6600 if you fold

You go into a think, he gets up off his chair and says

"I'll show you one when you pass"

Call or fold?

I think a lot depends on where you are in relation to the money, what the average stack is, how many left

Lots of players left, nowhere near the money

average stack about 9k

I think that he has AK AQ, personally, It's a coinflip, I fold.

We will have to wait for Ariston to tell us what he had

call..........all day every day

Heheheheh.

We discussed this during the break of the £300, once he says, "I'll show you one when you pass". I know I'm going to call. Plus it's a 2-1 shot.

Lol i agreed with all of that till the last 2 words. There is 11800 in the pot, its 4600 to call, so more than 2.5-1. You put your oppo on a range that makes you a 55-45 fave and now you want to pass!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

Tighty i call all day long, if not for the pot odds, for the fact its Ariston!

Even if Russ was bluffing, I would say that there will be better opps that come along, so I am going for the no lose situation

even getting 2.5-1 with the probable fave?

Would you pass AA to KK on hand 1? Thats worse equity than JJ vs AK here.

obviously I am a more of a gut instict player than a mathematical one, I go with my instincts and fold, might be wrong, I am still in the frame though

"I'll show you one when you pass"

"Will you show me one if I call too?"

The "when" is the important word in the sentence. As if the call is being goaded.

Having said that, I make it a rule to avoid making desicions on speech play, and look at the betting, the position, and my cards.

They say call.

And??????

He had AQ

getting 2-1 plus for an even money shot it was a clear odds call

I put him on A highx when he gave me the speech

JJ tripped up, which is incidental

Lessons from Tightend, no need to just post about hands that you lost.

 ;tightend; ;tightend;

Everyone else, take heed.  ;tk; (especially Billy  :D )

Insta-call even if you had 55, most of the time Ariston will then turn over two undercards  ;scarymoment;

Without reading the rest of the hand, and finding out what he had, I would call on the basis of him saying I'll show you "one", and making the presumption he only has one ace, i.e ace/king most likely, possibly ace/q
