Title: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 1
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 10, 2006, 06:10:13 PM
Howdy, folks and folkettes

I'm slightly concerned about today's update as, so far, it's been one of those days...

First off, after setting my alarm to 1pm in preparation for England's opener, I awoke to the joyful sight of the small hand on the 3. Eeeeeeeeek! I've missed the first half of the match! Wow, I really have changed, that would never have happened last time. I didn't miss a game in 2002, now I'm losing out on my own team's footie.

Then, after watching the tedious second half, eagerly awaiting a Crouch robotic dance that never came, I scraped my shoulder on the frame of the bathroom door. OUCH!!! Now I have a rather annoying gash on my arm which rubs against my shirt every time I move an inch. Bah. I'm really delicate too.

So, with a slight grimace on my face, I set out for Walsall, in eager anticipation of today's Main Event. But, as I approached the M42, a quick glance down told me that I was almost out of petrol. Double EEK! Turn around, back we go.

As I exited my car at the petrol station ,an annoucement told me that there was no petrol. Oh bloomin eck!!! And then, as I got back in my car, they suddenly announced that they actually DID have petrol. What on God's green earth is going on today?! Did they suddenly realise that they had a couple of barrels out of the back?

So, petrol thankfully in car, I went to make my payment. Standing in the queue, that was 6 people long, I realised that the till was broken and the fella was writing everything down and doing his maths on a calculator.

Several minutes later, and I was still there. Boy, when it's hot, us Brits don't half get impatient. The distinct huffing and puffing from folks in the queue was pretty amusing.

When I finally reached the front of the queue, the sales assistant, who was in full Frank Spencer mode, kept going into the stockroom every 20 seconds. Why, I'll never know. Must have been looking for his beret!

What was most amusing was that when I left, the guy announced that now they actually HAD run out of fuel. LOL, the people outside, who had now piled up, had faces like smacked asses.

To top it all off, I couldn't get the top off my lucozade bottle whilst I was in the car. I know I'm a bit of a Mr Muscle with slightly under par guns, but that bloomin top must have been glued on!!

Oh I just don't know. What was most amazing was that, ironically, there were NO hold-ups on the M6, and that's normally the home banker.

Anyway, at least I've made it without arriving in a hearse.

Oh yeah, and before I forget, Jen's not with us today. She's normally the glue that keeps us together, but this weekend I'm being accompanied by someone just as glueier. I'll let him introduce himself...

And we've already had two all-ins. Mateyboy squared!

Both moved all-in by the river, both had aces, both got their money back.

How exciting!

Before I forget...

106 players
1 hour clock
Double chance
7.5k + 7.5k

pretty cool huh?

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 1
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 10, 2006, 06:37:18 PM
Bad news already...

tikay has done his nuts in the first 5 minutes... well one of them anyhow, he's still got his other 7.5k left.

Kendall and Peter Costa saw a flop of Jc 9d 4d

Costa bet out, tikay raised, Costa moved all-in, and tikay called.

tikay = Kd Jd

Costa = 9h 4s

Turn = Ac

River = 2h

Must have been a coinflip, but it didn't land the right side for His Kendallness.

"CHIPS!!!"

Right, I'm finally connected on DC's ultranew cool laptop. I managed to briefly see 'El Blondie' take an early pot with QT on a AKJJ7 board.

Is this a good omen or a bad one?

El Blondie has drawn Table 4 Seat 7.

When does that film come out again??

Bapdpab's on a pretty menacing table.

The two seats before him have been filled by Ali Mallu and Mickey Wernick.

Then across the table are Fatmarra and the victor last time we frequented this joint... Ned Tim Flandidilyanders

A few handy players for the blonde one to contend with...

Marc Goodwin also here.

He's got a snazzy specially made belt that reads 'MR COOL'

he reckons it's a guaranteed bird puller... although he claims to be taken.

Two big hands for you on RED's table.

1st one saw Eric Barker and Chief (Walsall local) move all-in on a board of...

8d Td 2d 5c

Chief had 8-T, whilst Eric had the nut flush.

Chief chucked his cards in disgust, but the quickly said 'Oh, one card to come' and grabbed them back just in time.

Yep, you guessed it, the river filled him up.

Hand 2 saw RED-DOG limp in late position with 8-9 and then flop a straight.

He moved all-in with Jeff Buffenbarger who had two pair.

This time though, no boat came and Tom's doubled up, leaving Jeff crying for chips.

Post by: snoopy1239 on June 10, 2006, 07:10:56 PM
Okay, we've lost our first one... and it's a blondeite

Julian 'Hartwith' Adamson, who cashed in Blackpool, was taken down by Johnny Hewston, who certainly didn't have a problem when his pocket sevens flopped a fullhouse on a board of 7-9-9. Julian had the 9, then a straight draw on the turn, but little did he know that Hewston was sitting on a monster.

Bah, I'm having some slight lappy troubles so please bear with me.

Did manage to see Ashfag Ahmed take a nice little pot down with  7s 6s against Alan Armitage's  6c 6h

Ahmed bets on the  Aspades 5d 8h 8s 9s board and Armitage calls before mucking his sixes.

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 1
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 10, 2006, 07:19:51 PM
I just found out why they call Mad Turk 'Mad'...

Mazhar Nawab, who'd already had his double chance, moved all-in for 6.3k on a flop of K-Q-J and a Big Slick starting hand.

Turk says, 'Here's a gift for you' and makes the call with... pocket deuces. (!!)

Turn = 2

Ouch, that'll sting in the morning.

Another man down.

Post by: NoflopsHomer on June 10, 2006, 07:21:23 PM
Tikay just took down a chunky pot, I got there in time just to see him showdown those bullets (pow pow!) to Rob Yong  who mucked his cards on the river after there had been betting and calling all the way to the river on a T8559 board. Tikay rakes I think around an 8k pot and looks a lot more comfortable than before.

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 1
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 10, 2006, 07:24:12 PM
Zak just told me that Carlo was gone, which, in a double chance would be a completely unbelievable occurance for the dweller.

And, sure enough, he's still here, with his starting stack... it's just that's he's on another table.

he even dwelt before he left his starting one.

A few players who have their double chance ticket missing:

Stuart Rutter
Dan Carter
tikay
Jim Reid

I thought badpab had lost his, but he was hiding it under his ipod.

Blinds to increase to 50/100 in 2 minutes.

Post by: NoflopsHomer on June 10, 2006, 07:30:29 PM
Tony Dicesare just lost his first stack when holding  Qc Jh on a  Qd Js Td, he ended up all-in against  Olabode Ayegun's  Ad Qh which spiked the  Kd on the river.

Stephen Pearce just paid off Pete Singleton's (No longer a Mateyboy, hey Pete?) full house.

Singleton = Qc Kh

Perace = Js 2s

Qs Ks Kc 3s

All-in on the turn

River = 7h

Tikay is down to about 4k I'm afraid. Raising with Kings, (as you do) he found 4 callers, and a 762 rainbow flop, he bet 1200 into the 2000 pot only to find Rob Yong move all-in for well, lets say a lot more. Tikay called, Rob showed 45 and the 8 on the turn left tikay drawing dead. Still, with the blinds at 50/100, he still has lots of time yet.

Chubbs has just taken down a huuuuuugeeee pot, which is good because he just had got his second chance chips the hand previously.

The board read  Qd Th 3d when R Garfield moved all-in for his shortish stack, Big Dave Smith called before Simon set him all-in.

Chubbs:  Qc Qh

Garfield:  Jc Td

Big Dave:  Jd 4d

Turn:  2h

River:  5c

And Chubbs scoops a big 15k pot, forcing Dave and Garfield to take their second chances.

This Stepen Pearce has to be seen to be believed.

With 3.5k in the pot and a board of 7h 4h 5d Js, Pearce moves all in for 6k.

Decision to Samson.

Now, here are some of the lines Pearce came up with...

"What do I have to do to get you to call?"
"I think he's folding, everyone."
"I'm happy to take what's currently in the pot"
"Go on call, you might be winning"

Well, it worked, Dan called and Stephen quickly slammed down his cards and announced "NUTS!"

"Have you got any outs," asked Pearce.
Samson shakes his head.
"Okay, give me the money, next hand."

The table really love this chap. (ahem)

I've managed to prise some stories from Dave.

First lot went when he turned a flush from the big blind with J-7 diamonds. Unfortunately, he was outflushed.

Also, he claims to have made one of his worst passes of the year. On a King high board, Jim Reid talked him 'Stephen Pearce stylee' into passing K-Q.

still, the blonde one's still pluggin away.

I think the face says it all though. The curse of Table 7 - Seat 4 perhaps?

Hey all, Mad Turk is onto his 2nd set of chips, the first set went to Mulla sitting next him after Mad Turk moved all in on a  Kh Jc 9h flop. Mulla called with  Ad Kc which was ahead of Mad Turk's  Ahrt 5h, no flush came and another cry of "Chips" came.

Dave = 9.5k (no rebuy card)
D Sami = 5.5k (has card)
John Hewston = 34k (!!) (still has card)
Rumit = 7k(lost his first lot with set of twos to Des Jonas' flush draw)
Rob Yong = 14k 9no card)
tikay = 3.5k (no card)
ActionJack = 14k (has card)
Costa = 18k (has card)
Alan Maclean = 10.5k (no card)

Double up for the ol' fella!!

tikay raised 350 underthegun with pocket bullets (I saw! I saw!)

But.... 4 (?!?!?) callers!!

Flop came 5d Ahrt 3d

tikay bets out... 725

Paul Jackson calls immediately.

Turn = 3c

Paul then bets 1k out of turn... intentionally.

They let it go... tikay calls, after hamming it up.

Then his last 1.2k goes in on the Js river.

Paul proudly announces 'full house' 3h 5h

boy, tikay enjoyed showing his hand.

A few chip counts from the upper tier of tables.

Thewy of Thew Towers = 33k (Called an all-in from AQ with AK, the flop comes 89TJ with the inevitable Q on the river)
Jeff Buffenburger (lovely guy) = 12k
Red Dog = 16.5k, still to take his extra 7.5k
Mulla = 36k or possibly more, he has a huge stack of purples and greens and already three of the magic gold chips too.

Break time!

Meanwhile, here's Tom Cruise from Top Gun... oh no, hold on, my mistake, it's Kev. Close though.

Also notice Fatmarra on the right. He's one of the early pace setters, but that's in cigarette breaks. I think he's just surpassed last week's caption victim Burnley John.

The plan is to get chip counts when they return.

People will have moved seats, so we don't want to mix anyone else up.

Plus, it's tricky when you have to take into account the double chance.

Watch this space, folks.

Blinds are now 100/200, so even Pab and Tikay can make a few moves yet.

Table 10, (I'm working from the other side of the room to Snoopy)

Nick Whitten -- 18.8k
Paul Smart -- 20k
Julian Thew -- 34k
Niamh Peters -- 12.1k
P Smyth -- 8.3k

Michael Mccool -- 14.8k

Tony Chezza -- 12.5k

TaErible 9

Javed Iqbal -- 32.7k
Eric Barker -- 8.6k
Arulmaran Sivaguru -- 17.3k
Maurice Nicholson -- 5.5k (Was lower but just doubled with seven's against Sivaguru's T9suited)
Tom McCready -- 23.7k
Martino Libertini -- 8.4k
Jeff Buffenbarger -- 10k
Joe Conlan -- 9k
Iwan Jones -- 23.5k

Actually, it's taken me a bit of time to get all these down because there's been a bit of a hubbub on El Blondie's table, an apparently split pot got pushed all to one person, and a few at the table were less than happy. Fortunately it's all been sorted out now. I'm off to get more chip counts, hopefully people will stop hiding them from me. Grrrrrr

After going down to less than 3k, tikay is now back to just over 9.

Mickey Pearce raises to 600 preflop, tikay moves all-in with Big Slick.

Mateyboy then shoves in his 6k, forcing Mickey Pearce to fold his pocket jacks.

What did Mateboy have?

King Queen (?)

No help, and tikay scoops, although those jacks would have held up.

Alli Mallu bets 8k

Tim Flanders foldidiliyolds

On a  4s 3c Jc 6c Mateyboy bets 1.2k, Rob Yong raises to 5k, second Mateyboy folds. River is a  7h Rob checks, Matey bets 7k, Rob reluctantly calls and is shown  8c 9c. I think Rob mucked  Ac Js. He still has about 18k though.

I asked El Blondie how it's going, and he said, "Not great." He has about 8k still though, and with blinds at 200/400 he has some time before things get really dicey.

John Shipley doubles up in a sweaty palms moment.

Flop = 5d 5c 4c

He moves all-in with bullets, only to find Mateyboy calling with Tc 9c

Turn = 6h

River....

Ac

The dealer apologised to John, and then realised her error.

Full house!

Phew.

Shipley survives the ordeal.

Ordeal or no ordeal I guess.

Paul Jackson is OUT.

A-3 suited versus A-K

Board of 2-6-7-K-9 was no help, although Paul did shout out 'Flush!' in sheer desperation. The fact that the only hearts around were in his hand was a slight drawback.

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 1
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 10, 2006, 10:19:21 PM
Stephen Pearce is normally able to talk his opponents into calling.

Steve Bovis was having none of it as he folded to a 10k bet (with several already in the pot) and a board of Qs 2s 6c

Pearce showed a set of sixes.

More sadly, Badpab is OUT. He made his move with pocket sevens, the also short  B Mirza moved in with AJ, but they were both called by Peter Moss' pocket jacks which held up.

And Stephen Pearce is at it again, this time with Ian Woodley.

Flop = 7s Js 2s

He is at his goadying best (crikey, that really isn't a real word is it), desperately (seemingly) trying to get Woodley to call.

10k in the pot, Pearce's all-in was for another 20k.

"Go on, call, you can come back from that"

Well, he didn't call, and Peace didn't show his hand.

hmm, i wonder...

Rob Yong has roughly 38k last time I checked

Here's an interesting hand between Mulla and P McFaden

The board looked like this Kd 4h 8s

Check, check

Turn: Td

Mulla bets 3k, McFaden calls.

River:  Aspades

Mulla checks, McFaden bets 7k. Mulla dwells for a second before calling.

McFaden:  Jc Jd

Mulla:  Qd Qc

Q-Q V J-J

A jack has already gone, but the case jack hits the river.

Ouch!

Then v Willie Tann, Paul hits a set of fours on a 4-8-2 (2 clubs).

Paul checked, Willie bet 2k, Paul min raises, Willie moves all-in, Paul called.

Willie shows Q-8, and doesn't hit his miracle turn and river.

Right, we're in another break

Rudders is still NOT OUT. By reporting he was, I may have worked an anti-bokk, in fact he doubled up vs Mulla with KK vs JJ on a Ten high flop just before the break. He's now on 30k!

Elsewhere the Thewster continues his rampage, or well...people just really want give their chips. He raised with aces under the gun and Mateyboy called him with  8d 9d

The flop comes Q83 rainbow, Julian makes a small bet, Matey raises, and Julian after a little dwell moves all-in, Matey calls and then departs.

Lord Mickey of Wernickestershire -- 15k
Carlo Citrone -- 14.5k
Ali Mallu -- Over 40k last time I checked.

In a broad Georgie accent...

Malc M is OUT.

Serial raiser sticks in some chips from under the gun.

Malc flatcalled with A-6 suited, ready to make a play on him

Flop = A-6-2

Malc checks, O.R bets, Malc reraises, O.R moves all-in, O.R calls with A-K.

River comes a king.

Bah, another blondeite down.

47k pot apparantly!

Nice updates peeps, just catching up.

How are Malc_M and fatmarra getting on please?

How about this for quick service?

Fatmarra = 29k

... although he said, 'tell em I'm on 95k'

'they won't believe the real answer, nevermind the lie', I replied.

Just saw Malc M win the blinds with A-Q off, but he's still only got 3.8k. Very felty felty at the moment.

Excellent service, thanks. Please pass on best wishes if ytou have the chance.

John Hewston raises 2.3k preflop from trap 2, Barry Wilson calls from the button.

Flop = Tc 5s 9c

Hewston didn't seem to have a problem with that flop, and moved all-in.

Wilson, who had about 15k left, dwelt for ages, before eventually folding.

John showed Jc

hmm, the mind boggles

He moves in his last chips, about 15k, on a board of Ad 6h 6d 6h.

Marc Goodwin has 20k, however he just lost a 50k pot, holding J9 he flopped the nuts with a T87 flop. He bet it and found one caller, on the turn, an ace, he bet it again and his caller moved all-in. Marc called and his oppponent has a set of 7's, unfortunately for Marc the board paired with another ace on the river.

Stu Rutter takes out Willie Tann. Willie pushed with  Ad Kh. Very reasonable don't you think? Except young Stuart was holding those two black bullets (pow pow!) and the  Kd Tc 3d 5h 7s sealed his fate. We're now on another break and then the blinds will be 800/1600.

Javed Iqbal is out in an SB vs BB confrontation, he moved all-in with A9 but Simon Nowab had AK, no improvement for either and they're starting to fall thick and fast.

Norman Potts has taken out another short stack with AQ vs AJ.

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 1

Andrew Goldie and Steve Jelinek get involved in some preflop action, but slow right down on a flop of Qs Qd 2c, eventually checking it right down to the river. Steve took the pot with A-T.

Scaredy cats!

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 1
Post by: NoflopsHomer on June 11, 2006, 02:57:50 AM
D Sami just lost a huge pot in anoher SB vs BB confrontation, he quickly called a 7k bet on the river only to be shown  7d 9d and the nut straight from Matey in the BB. Sami is now quite low.

Martino Libertini just doubled through, he held sixes vs Andy Johnson's AQ

The  Qd 4h Jd flop didn't look great but then a  6s on the turn meant the  Tc on the river was meaningless.

Hand of the week for you now.

And it's a pretty good one too...

Are you ready??

Fatmarra raises to 4.4k under the gun.

Mickey Wernick moves all-in.

Ali Mallu flatcalls.

Richard Rudling Smith (Rudders) folds Ac Ks

Olabode Ayegun (buddy) folds Kh Qc

Original raiser Fatmarra folds Ahrt Kc

Mickey Wernick = Qs Qd

Ali Mallu = Aspades Kd

Just the case ace to hit.

Board = Ts Tc 4c 6d Td

Mickey doubles up.

It is a fascinating hand for sure, BadPab, who has stayed with us says it's a bad call, because there's no way that anything Mickey has is not beating Ali Mallu's hand. Chip counts will follow shortly and with four tables left, there will be a lot action still to come tomorrow.

This is Olabode 'buddy' Ayegun. He's running low tonight with 8,800, but he's still fighting away.

Last time I saw this fella was in Blackpool where he also ran well, but, on that week, he eventually encountered some bad luck and didn't quite make the big bucks.

Maybe tomorrow will be his day.

Before I hit the sack, here are 2 staff piccies.

The first is the lovely Liz, who has just joined the forum as Poppet18.

What I like about this piccy though is the cheeky Ed Arees lurking in the background.

The second is of Dani Versaci with Pat Murray, who is more commonly known as Mickey Pearce off Only Fools And Horses.

Just caught up with the updates, great job guys!

I'm still in on 34k but I have the entire Dusk Till Dawn team of Rob Yong, Nick Whitten, and Simon Nowab on my table. scary or what?

Heres an interesting hand I played earlier

I limp with  Qc Kd (3 players)

flop Ks Qs 3h

The Doc, first to act, bets 1600 (blinds 200/400)

I raise to 4000

Iwan Jones goes all in for 16000

The Doc also moves all in for about 14000

I have 21000. What should I do here?

I limp with  Qc Kd (3 players)

flop Ks Qs 3h

The Doc, first to act, bets 1600 (blinds 200/400)

I raise to 4000

Iwan Jones goes all in for 16000

The Doc also moves all in for about 14000

I have 21000. What should I do here?

I consider this to be an easy pass.

Tricky, situation because there is not a great deal in it with the chips.  If I had more chips I'm calling.  If onlt one all in I think I am also calling all day long with my top two pair hoping that oppo hasn't made a set of 3's.

In this situation I am happy to let them fight it out.

Tough decision, and I don't blame you for passing here if you did.

I think that you are definitely in front, but I am putting Ewan on Js Ts, so there's not much in it %age wise.

I think that you would be looking to get all your stack in with better odds than that.

I passed. Incredibly, both were on flush draws, Ewan hit a back door straight.

Great Updates, well done Guys, especially Floppy on his debut.

Good Luck to all the blondes, there are load of them still in, though let's hope the Welsh Section, led by Codeye Jones, remember their place in life.....

A truly wonderful evening, almost a blonde Bash, so many blondes there.

Never had so much fun, & I was pretty disappointed to bust out early after a truly Yoyo like performance. I managed to lose with KK (to 4-5), AA (to 6-7),  & TT (v 88), but won with KK & AA too, it was Big-Hand City all night for me.

Peter Costa played some world-class stuff he has a truly frightening ability to put players on hands, his winning play of 8-6 on an all-paint flop was just amazing.

And blondeite John Shipley arrived at my table with 800, & is now well in contention. How wonderful Poker is - I sat wiith several World-class players last night, it was an education. My table included Peter Costa, John Shipley, Paul Jackson, Carlo Citrone, Rob Yong, Stuart Rutter, & the nice yoing lad who won the Welsh Open at Cardiff.

As for my game, I barely made a mistake all night, in my opinion, though I had oodles of monster hands, but some nights they get turned over, & it was that sort of night.

But I had good fortune too, & I had to feel for Paul Jackson when I had AA & he had 3-5 (I'd R'd properly, got 4 callers, so Paul came along on the Button for value) with 3-5. The flop was A-3-5, &, Poker being Poker, the 3 turned.....Ouch!

A wonderful evening, thanks guys.

Indeed TK

I know I haven't been around many of the top events, but Peter's ability to put people on the EXACT hand (and that includes the suits!!) is truely amazing, the first time I saw him do this I thought it was just a fluke, but have seen him do it many many times since - hopefully one day he will teach me.

He's hopeless Paul.

I got involved with him on hand # 2, & he put me on KQ diamonds - but I actually had K-J diamonds. Hopeless, I tell ya.

Had a good day yesterday, met lots of people.

My starting table was interestin, had rudders and fatmarra across from me, btoh who ibe played a lot with online. Then in the two seats to my right were ali mallou, and mick micky wernick, two players i had heard a lot about but had never faced.

Ali lived up to his agressive gambling reputation within the first few hands calling all in on the turn with bottom pair and a up n down str8 draw vs a guy with top set, that was his first chance gone, After that he continued to be agressive and built a stack up around 20k i believe. I still had my double chance to come and was on just over 6k. Ali limps for 100, and i make it 500 with AQ clubs, BB calls and so does ali, flop is Q 9 6 i believe and both check to me, i bet 700, BB fold and then ali makes an obscene raise to something in the region of 4000. Ali does not know me and i go the impression he thought i would fold like a little girl with anything but the nuts. I move all in and its about 1k more for ali to call which he does with 22 :-). 2 hands later micky limps UTG, ali limps, i limp with 22 and we see a cheap flop. The flop is T 6 2 with 2 diamonds, all check to me and i bet 350, micky calls then ali announces raise. Here comes the fun part, ali makes it 3000! more on top of my 350. I had ali on the A flush draw or JJ QQ (already seen him limp big pairs in EP). I call the 3000 with the thinkin that ali would fire again on the turn regardless of what came. Turn is an A spades and sure enough ali fires 5k, I move all in and he calls with KQ diamonds for the flush draw. River is a diamond and mr mallu scoops about a 28k pot at the end of level 2.

That pot was a killer for me and hard to swallow, but nevermind live poker obviously rigged

According to micky wernick I was mallued (word?) and is nothing to be ashamed of, lol

Knowing ali's style would anyone have played the hand differently? In my opinion if i move in on the flop he folds the hand whereas allowing him to bet the turn commits him to the pot which is essentially what I wanted.

Good luck to RED and rudders (my 10% lol) today hope to make it down at some point

Pab
