Has she used MSN on a friends pc or public terminal?

She could have accidentally set it up to log in auto and forgotten about it?

Okay, laptop only requires to know IP address of the gateway, router, for net access, does not use any admin passwords to change settings on router, unless you have logged into remote admin on router and saved password on laptop.

The ex did this to me once.

There are ways to hack into an msn account without knowing the password. It's not a very secure thingy-mijiggy.

Thankfully, there's not much they can do there other than read and send e-mails. From there you may have cause to worry though. E-mails may contain your daughters usernames/passwrods for other accounts.

Are you sure she hasn't logged in at a friends house (it could have been some time ago) and they've accidenataly fired it up automatically when switching on their computer.

Bainn sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

Thanks tank, i have my moments.

Seriously though, MSN is a bit pants security wise, normal of "holes" can be found if you google, my only concern is integrity of your home network.  Normally pc's on a private network tend to be set to allow all communication to and from all IP's on that network, for file transfer and printer sharing for example.  If her account is comprimised, and she opens MSN on her laptop and your main pc is also switched on, there is a slight chance of a "backdoor" being opened up across the network from her laptop to your pc.

Would suggest that as soon as possible she create a new MSN account and inform MSN of the problem.

My worry above is remote, as most "crackers" these days are idiots who do not know how to code their own exploits, so rest easier.

I signed out of MSN and entered her details and it let me in...no "you are signed in at another location..." message.

The picture changed to her normal one when I signed in ??

So providing she doesnt sign in to MSN on her lappy it should be ok?

I feel it is a good solution, create a new MSN account, install any windows updates, make sure your anti-virus definitions are up to date and run a FULL scan of the laptop, and maybe run a spyware checker like "ad-aware" or my fave, "spybot search and destroy" which is free.  Do this while no other pc's are swithed on on the network on the safe side.

Indulge me though, and ask her where she has logged into her MSN, and check they not accidentally logged in.

If really not a mistake, inform MSN as i suggested.
