Title: sng hand
Post by: N_Baldo on June 11, 2006, 03:10:40 AM
Okay, im in a $30 9 man sng on stars. We are 5 way i beleive and i have around 4,000 in chips , blinds are 75/150. (sorry i dont have hand history).

I am in small blind and find 3  5  . (my favorite hand , if its suited  ). Anyway button min raises to 300, I decide to call. This is not the issue btw people.
Flop comes. 3  5  A  . I flopped bottom two pair, and am hoping he ll continuation bet, so i can re raise. As im pretty damn sure im ahead, i check, he checks rather surprisingly i might add.
Turn card comes, 10  . Pot is 750 , and i opt to bet 450 realising i cant possible give any more free cards when he pushes all in for something in the region of 1,600 total. So its like 1,150 for me to call. I go into the tank , and decided to fold.

I am just curious as to whether you guys think this was a bad laydown cos my friend was watchin me play (kompis) and was shocked when i folded on turn and said he could easily have AK/AQ etc.
Thoughts ?

I think its a good laydown after a dubious pre-flop call.A minimum raise from the button screams strength and he wants action. If he was holding A,K/A,Q he should be raising about 3xBB because they are only drawing hands.

I really think that after calling pre-flop you should have bet out after hitting bottom 2 pair,if mateyboy then came over the top then it would have been an easier call to make.If he folded then you can show your 3,5 and send a message to the rest of the table about your BB.

After both checking the flop, then betting the turn you have no way of knowing where you are in this hand when mateyboy goes all-in.He could easily have a better 2 pair or even trip 10's or Aces.

This is ok if playing against a pedictable "book player"

Having no such read, I don't think it a fair assumption to make, and include AK, AQ and even possibly AJ in my opponents probable hand range.

Checking flop and giving up the betting initiative, then raising the turn, scream strength and you have due cause for concern.

I think you are strong enough, and chipped up enough, to make the call. Given that the pot is offering you just better than evens.

A fold is certainly not an awful play. Your read that his lack of continuation bet was unusual further goes to suggest his strength.

Given that he is short stacked, it could just be a desperation raise with a high pocket pair or wanky gutshot broadway draw so I c-c-c-call.

If you're not going to put your money in when you hit your miracle flop why call preflop?
