Title: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 2
Post by: NoflopsHomer on June 11, 2006, 03:06:33 PM
Welcome back to Walsall folks. Since we're now down to four tables, there's enough for Snoops and myself to snugly fit inside the cardroom today rather than be on the cusp. In fact Snoopy says, "there's enough room to swing a cat."

The poker players are being asked to make their way to the cardroom so we shall be beginning very shortly.

First off, I'd just like to say that I don't advocate cat-swinging. Don't do it kids, no good can come of it.

Secondly, here are a few piccies to set the scene pre-final.

The first is of the empty tables, eagerly awaiting the remaining 38 players. (pretty exciting, huh?!)

The second is our workstation, which is strangely more spacious than anything I've been accustomed to before.

Finally, the third snap is of Buzz Lightyear's healthy 121k stack, which he pretty much won in one scoop midway through last night.

Here's a picture of Red and Malcolm during the calm before the storm. I'll get a copy of the pay-out structure shortly. They're racing for the 100 chips at the moment meaning that soon, all the chippy counts that me and snoopy did last night will be hideously out of date. Such is life.

And here's you chip leader Iwan Jones with the biggest stack he'll see at this stage for a long time to come. Unfortunately, most of them are due to the chip race that just took place.

Anyhow, the voice from above announces 'SHUFFLE UP AND DEAL" and we're off.

And we're a man down already.

L Hirons is out.

Rudders raised 10.5k preflop with A-Q, Hirons called with pocket tens, after long deliberation.

But being so short-stacked he felt he had to make the call.

Coin-flip, but Hirons received the worst of it when a Queen hit the flop.

His final reasoning was that he probably wouldn't get a hand much better than that and would potentially be blinded away, so made the call.

How about:

Iwan Jones
Rob Yong
Red Dog

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 2
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 11, 2006, 03:31:48 PM
And that first exit puts Richard Rudling-Smith up to 31k.

"That's more hands than I played in five hours of play yesterday", he chirped.

Post by: NoflopsHomer on June 11, 2006, 03:33:23 PM
On a  Aspades Ks 6s 9d 3s board, Rob Yong bets 5k into a 20k+ pot against Stu Rutter, Rutter eventually calls, the Yongsta shows  7s 8c which is good... I think stuart had two pair on the flop or something....

Elsewhere O Ayegun is OUT, he moved with  Ac Ts, Iwan Jones held  Ad Qd but Martino Libertini had  Kd Kh which took a big pot.

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 2

Post by: snoopy1239 on June 11, 2006, 03:41:02 PM
Dazzling Con Cronin starts off the day in dazzling form with a 15-20k pot.

With a board of 4d 4c Ahrt 3c 9c, Con's 4k bet finds a caller and he confidently flips over Ad Kh. His non-believing opponent mucks.

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 2

J Conlan takes out Ian Woodley, all the chips went in on a  Jh Aspades 4c Td flop,

Woodley held Ac 9s but Conlan had  Jh Jc leaving Woodley drawing dead.

Here's our second elimination of the day, Buddy, resigned to the rail, but still in good spirits.

This guy's only been playing for a couple of years, but he's already making some good headway with a few nice cashes. Run into some bad luck this year, but he's highly rated and ought to win a big event in the near future.

Elias Katzi is out to the Yongsta

Katzi  Ks Js

Yongsta  Ac 4c

Board helped neither.

They're dropping like flies here.

Now Burnely John's bitten the dust.

Pocket snowmen versus D 'Magic' Sami's Ace Jack, which paired up on both accounts.

Incidentally, John wasn't too chuffed with his 'This is why you shouldn't you do drugs, kids'

So, watch out Mr A Anonymous from England.

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 2
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 11, 2006, 03:52:18 PM
The reason for Simon's scream?

Nick 'Smither's Witten doubles up with A-8 v A-T, 8 on the flop.

Unfortunately, he was only on 5k at the time.

Why was he on 5k.

Ran Jacks into those dreaded Bullets (pow pow)

Nick 'The Shrew' in double double-up news now, down to 5k he spiked an eight when his A8 was behind to AT. And just now he's double up to about 20k now when his AJ beat Chubbs' KJ.

Prize structure:

1st = £38,100
2nd = £23,300
3rd = £13,600
4th = £9,900
5th = £6,600
6th = £5,000
7th = £3,700
8th = £3,200
9th = £2,600

What do you lot think about the structure?

I caught sight of an article by Lucy Rokache in this month's CardPlayer Europe in which she slated the idea of a flatter structure. Did anyone else read that? Thoughts? I genuinely disagreed with the majority of what she said.

Kev was here at 2pm, but I haven't seen or heard from him in a while. He's seems to be keeping pretty quiet today, which is unusual. Give him time...

This is the ever-dangerous Ali Mallu leading a Krypton Factor-esque (remember that show?) line-up.

Can't believe they gave the women a headstart in the obstacle race, talk about sexism!!

This is the table you want to be on if you're looking for entertainment.

Chubbs, Yongsta, Smither, Kings, and RED-DOG. All having a hoot and making this a fun day.

I'm a bit disappointed that Tom doesn't have his big RED-DOG sitting on his cards though as a card protector. Bah!

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 2
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 11, 2006, 04:13:00 PM
Flop = 9s 4c 8s

Stuart Rutter bets 2k, Paul King folds.

Turn = Stuart bets 4.5k

'Hmm,' mulls Paul King, before showing a seven and passing.

Meanwhile, Chubbs highlights a fingers in the till job for RED. Tom raised his blind with 8-9, Chubbs reraises and RED-DOG says, 'I can't call and shows his eight high'.

I said, 'one finger in the till, another in the cookie jar, eh Tom?'

'I can't afford both a till and a cookie jar...'

Ed Arees just doubled through Paul Dobson with Kings against Jacks.

Dobsons was completely down to the felt and shortly went out  with KT against Q3 which hit a full house.

Meanwhile Snoops has some interesting news about someone, I won't say who, but this picture is a clue.

Big double up for you now!

N Potts finds Kings and takes a big bite out of Rob Yong's stack who had A-J off.

Unfotunately, after taking a hit off RED in the Queens v Aces hand, he's still only on a slightly vulnerable 2k.

And now Paul King's OUT in rather 'up the bum' circumstances.

Battle of the blinds:

Chubbs had big slick, Paul pocket cowboys.

Ace on river.

"Hard luck, Paul' consolidated RED-DOG.

"Used to it Tom, used to it," replied a despondent King.

After raising to 10k, Nick the Shrew was re-raised all-in by the big blinds, after a long dwell he eventually passed, albeit reluctantly.

Con Cronin raises Fatmarra's flop saying, 'I'm gonna raise your blind cos I don't like you, I remember you from Nottingham."

"I've never played at Nottingham," replies a bemused Fatmarra.

Table laughs, Con apologises, Fatmarra concedes his blind.

Big pot developed between Iwan Jones, Simon Nowab and Andy Johnson, on a board of  4d Td 9s Qc, Iwan bets 35k and takes the pot down.

Meanwhile, Nick W told me he folded pocket tens to the re-raise from the big blind who told me he had pocket jacks.

That makes the bet a bit sweeter for you.

If he gets the most from a split i'll pay out at 7/2 if he doesn't go on to win outright, if he does go on to win outright i'll pay out at 5/1.

If this suits then consider your bet laid.

And just a few hands later, Ali Mallu stumbles across Aces again (!!)

And he finds a customer, again (!!)

N Saberi raises preflop.

Ali Mallu moves all-in from the button.

Saberi calls and flips Ahrt Kc

Flop = Kh 8c Qh

Turn = Ks, River = 3d

OUCH!!!

And Ali received somewhat of a rubdown from Saberi who rose from his chair and cheered, attracting the attention of the whole cardroom.

talk about taking it quietly. hmm

The Welsh wonder raises from the but-off, Tom Clarke flat calls from the big blind.

Flop = 7s 9c Js

Clarke checks, Iwan bets 14k.

Clarke shakes his head and exposes K-Q.

Dan Samson is OUT, he held Ad Kd against Steve Jelinek's pocket snowmen, the board looked bad for Samson,  6s 2c 6d and while the  Jd gave him some extra outs the  2s sealed his fate.

And while I was typing that, Kevin Price just doubled through Con Cronlin, Kevin looked in bad shape with AK vs Cronlin's pocket kings but an Ace on the river stopped Cronlin from shooting up to around 250k, instead he's just on about 100k with Price looking strong now on 150k.

I've been called over to Table 1 by Pro Railer Kev.

Con Cronin flatcalls 4k from early position, Kevin Price raises to 16k, Richard Rudling-Smith moves all-in, Con Cronin folds, Kevin Price calls the extra 8.5k.

On their backs, A-K v A-K.

Flop = 8c Kc 2c

Turn = 3d

River = 3c

OUCH!

Just kidding, neither player had a club, but Rudders had to make a quick check. To red ones though.

Fireworks on Yongsta's table...

Rob Yong raises to 12k from the button.

Con Cronin makes it 40k on the small blind.

Deep in thought, Yongsta comments, 'I know my hand is good.'

'I know your hand is good, you know it's good. Cmon, you're making me nervous,' replies the Dazzler.

Then, in a rather amusing moment, the dealer points to Con's unlit cigarette and asks, 'are you smoking?!'

To which Mr Cronin responds, 'I've got shoes on my feet but am I walking?!?'

A rib tickler for the audience.

Big hand news now!

Firstly Mickey Wernick is OUT.

He moved with  Ad Qd against Stuart Rutter's  Js Jc

Flop:  Ts Qs 3s

Turn:  9c  (oo-er)

River:  Ks giving Stuart the straight and the flush

And at the same time, Red Dog has doubled up!!!

Ali Mallu raised with  Tc 5c and Red Dog moved all in. Tom had them bullets again (keee-pow!) and the 5-7-K-8-K board gives the blondeite a much needed double up.

Cronlin is VERY entertaining, well I think so.

I just watched him raising in 2nd position to 16k declaring that Stuart Rutter had raised his blind 16 or 17 times today and he wanted to get some back. It's folded round to Stu who mucks his 7c 4h face up. Cronlin shows  7h 2h to the entire table. Rutter may regret passing such a monster when he was dominating... ::)

There's something happening every few hands with a lot of short stacks so I'm trying to grab multiple snippets at once. F

First Iwan Jones raised to 16k from the cut-off before eventually folding when Stu Rutter moved all-in for 41.5k more.

Ed Arees has doubled up with AA vs T9 but he's still very short.

Also, Rudders has doubled up to 28k with 99 vs Mulla's A4 in the BB.

Right, once more into the breach dear friends...

He was shortstacked and found an up and down straight draw with T-9 on a J-8-4 flop. Ed Arees had Aces, which held up.

Libertini is taking liberties now. (well, sort of, just wanted to use that phrase)

raised preflop with aces

called by Mulla in the bb with K-Q

Mulla pushes on king high flop

Libertini calls

No bad beat

Libertini doubles through

Title: Re: MIDLANDS MEDLEY - LIVE UPDATE: DAY 2
Post by: NoflopsHomer on June 11, 2006, 08:18:32 PM
Ali Malu is still in major blind stealing mode, he just took Steve Jelinek's, Jelinek shows an ace before passing, Malu shows an ace before taking the pot. Bizarre that people show there ace either way, much more interesting to show the deuce with it I think. ::)

While I wrote that Mulla is OUT, he raised on the button from Queens, only to face a re-raise all-in from Steve Jelinek in the small blind who was waaaaaaaaaay behind with pocket sixes. But a six came on the flop and Jelinek moved waaaaaaaaaaaaay in front. No help for Mulla who is out in 15th.

And after his timely double-up, Rudders has shot up to a much more impressive 167,000.

Meanwhile, Iwan is quietly complaining about the structure and the 4,000/8,000 blinds. With several players hovering around the 60/70k mark, he reckons it's turned into a crapshoot unnecessarily.

Mulla busted out, not Mallu. (note the strategic placement of the letter 'a' ;))

Stu Rutter is OUT, he pushed for 37k with A8 but Joe Conlon pushed behind him for 36k with AJ, leaving him with just a single chip. Next hand he managed to make that single chip become two when he had A8 again in the BB versus Rudder's K7, the two 1k chips didn't become 4 though because Rudders hit a full house with QJ. The bubble is looming on the horizon. I can't even eat my burger because as soon as I try, something happens on the tables!

Short-stack Ed Arees doubles up through Ali Mallu, his AJ hit on the river of a K-Q-8-9-A against Malu's 73, the latter who has been accumulating chips at a frantic rate throughout the bubble period. Ed Arees immediately apologises to everyone for not ending the bubble period which draws laughs from both tables.

Incidentally the blinds are not 4k/8k as I had previously said. Ali Mallu objected to the rollback so instead we're staying on 5k/10k for the next hour before going to 6k/12k.

More Yongsta news, he and Ali Malu had been raising each other a lot and it finally comes to ahead. Rob raises and Ali calls:

Flop:  8s 6s 9c

Rob bets, Ali moves all-in, Rob insta-calls.

Malu  8d Ad

Yongsta  9h 9s

Turn is  7s

River  Kd

A huge double up for Rob, making him the chip leader. Snoops is counting his chips now.

More Chubbs/Allan action.

Allan raises to 40k, folded round to Simon who re-raises to 100k. Neil thinks for bit before pushing all-in. Simon calls in a split second.

Neil:  8d 8c

Simon:  Kd Kc

Board:  Ac 3c 4s Qc Jd

Allan has about 20k left now.

General Hilarity moment now.

In a pot between Steve and Rob, Rob bets the minimum 12k on a  Qd Ks 7s flop. Jelinek moves all-in, Rob says, "You limped preflop so you must have Kings or Aces, I've only got King six," eventually, reluctantly he calls.

Yong:  Kh 6h

Jelinek:  Kd 6d!

Everyone else: Large amounts of laughter.

Blank turn and river so chop chop.

Tom McCready aka Red-Dog is OUT and is our 6th place finisher winning £5,000

It was that man Mallu again, he limped in early position and Red pushed all-in, folded back to Mallu who called.

Red:  Aspades Ks

Mallu:  2c 4c!

Board:  4h 2d 2s Jd 8c

A big well done to the Dog who started off as one of the shorter stacks but got Mallu-ed. ;applause; :respect:

Trevor, Ewan is still in but he has only about 92k and is the short stack. There is a break now and then the blinds will be 8k/16k.

Stu Rutter finished 8th in the £100 rebuy which he tells me Burnley John is running over. Stu had his tens cracked by ace eight and won £140, unfortunately he had a rebuy. Doh!

Sofa - Red probably only had about 4xBB and Ali is well stacked a gambler.

Snoops and I are down to one laptop now, Snoops gave his to give to Tikay for the updates in Paris which start this week, so I'm typing and snoopy is writing down the action.

You need to hit cards at the final table and get lucky, always been that way. Got to take into account that i assume red was very shortstacked and ali could afford the gamble. Why he limps utg with 24 is a mystery tho.

Ali Mallu is OUT and is our 5th place finisher winning £6,600

Rob Yong raises to 65k on the button, Ali moves all-in, Simon Nowab calls! Rob folds AJ

Ali   4d 2h

Simon  Jd Jh

Board  5s Js Ks Qc Qh

Approx Chip Counts:

Rob -- 220k
Chubbs -- 980k
Jones -- 120k
Rudders -- 290k

Just spoke to Rob and he says would've instantly called Ali if Simon hadn't.

Could be hectic, but it shouldn't take long with these two nutters.

OK, I'm back and snoopy is watching the action. I can tell you now that Simon has already said there's no chance of a deal so we're getting a full proper HU match. I suspect the bragging rights are much more important to Simon and Rob than the cash. ;)

Here's a photo of Rob and Simon pre-battle commencement. Guests please sign up to forum if you want to see the pictures.

Aye Carumba!

What a night!!

Come on hands ups, who predicted a DTD 1-2?...  I think we all had a funny feeling that, when the dust settled and the smoke cleared, it would be those two cheeky chappies playing heads up.

I have some awesome piccies, which I'll merely tease you with. Keep a keen eye on the main site, as they'll all be up tomorrow, including one of the boys shoving all the dosh into one single bin bag.

For now though, all that's left to do is thank Flopsy, who was relentlessly enthusiastic all weekend and a complete bundle of energy, and the Grosvenor Casino who, once again, provided us with a top week of poker.

Time for bed mi thinks, I'm positively cream-crackered.

Next stop Paris for the World Poker Tour. See you soon gang!

Over and out.

ps. Has anyone got a fork?...

snoopy

WOW!!! for entertainment value this was one of the best comps I've ever been involved in.

Kudos to the Dusk Till Dawn team, (so tough to play against, but great fun) Well done Chubby!

Thanks to Snoops and Floppy for the fantastic updates, you have no idea how hard these guys work

Congratulations to all at Walsall Grosvenor for yet another superb festival, I can't wait for the next one

And last but not least, a big thanks to the members of blonde who wished me well today, and thank you for all the PMs. You guys, (and the money) make it all worth while.

Me, Chubbs and Nick just got back to my house. It was a bit difficult one time when all 3 of us were on the same table when we got down to the last 3 tables. When me and Chubbs made the final table we decided that neither of us would agree to do any deals no matter how many players were left in (as it would be a bit hypocritical especially after some of the anti- deal posts I have put on BP).

As you can see from some of the hands on BP, we clashed quite a few times but it was the best possible result we could have hoped for, a 1 and 2, and 61k (less £400 for the waiters and waitresses). As you would expect, there were a few comments about "same village" from a very small minority but anyone reading the updates must be mad to think this was the case (eg. my all-in with 66 UTG when we were still 5 handed?).

The comp was run great except it was a bit of a crapshoot when down 12 players, but the final table structure was fine. Ali Mallu was relentless but could not win the key hand V Chubbs QQ v AK. I felt a bit sorry for Red-Dog, he had Chuubs, Ali and Me all directly to his right and was getting his blinds stolen every round, eventually finding AKs and losing to Alli's 24d on  224 flop.

I was actually pretty card dead throughout the competition but managed to steal my way through so a nice ending to a tiring weekend.

Cheers Rob

Had a good day yesterday, met lots of people.

My starting table was interestin, had rudders and fatmarra across from me, btoh who ibe played a lot with online. Then in the two seats to my right were ali mallou, and mick micky wernick, .......
Good luck to RED and rudders (my 10% lol)

Pab

intresting = understatement- but was a class table- pab was very unlucky- malued was right- enjoyed the  banter- top players (and guys) all round

funniest moment when after 5  and a half hours I actually found a hand worth raising with- the look on the dealers face as the marra folded without looking at his hand....

pab was looking after that 10% with useful coaching hints... such as (on ft) dont you think a red bull would be better than another beer?? (advice declined..)

apart from the 90 mins around the bubble which got very stressfull- and was a bit of crapshoot i enjoyed the rest of the day. well played all on the FT esp the DTD guys vwp and Vwd. Iwan and red dog worked wonders staying in as long as they did with no cards and few chips.

(would have paid just to watch the Rob/Ali duel - was classic)

finally thanks for all the support i got especially when i had no cards at all (like for a day and a half) - its true snoop i did play more hands in half an hour than all of day one lol.
