Title: Should Commercial Whaling Be Brought Back? Post by: Sark79 on June 16, 2006, 10:48:36 PM My answer is definitely not.
I love Whales. They are beautiful intelligent creatures that we should respect and protect. I was so pleased that the Pro-Whaling nations lost an early vote at the International Whaling Commissions annual meeting today. Pro-Whaling nations ( Japan, Norway and Iceland ) have been attempting to have the ban lifted which makes Whaling illegal. Their argument is that since the initial ban, Whale population numbers have risen. Obviously with such things, the nations concerned will appeal against the commissions earlier decision. I just hope that they are denied again. Thankfully the USA is one of the leading proponents against commercial whaling, so that is a major advantage when it comes to swaying the decision making process conducted by the whaling commission. Where America go, the UK tend to follow. So hopefully those countries against Whaling ( USA and Australia ) will continue to have the UK's support. I just can't understand why Pro-Whaling groups even have a voice. They should be ignored. I thought we were a more civilised world now compared to years gone by. Post by: Josh on June 17, 2006, 01:06:40 AM You'll probably find the reason the nations that are against it are, is because they didn't have a big proportion of their population living off the industry. I think as long as it's controlled it's not a huge problem. Do you complain when cows are slaughtered?
And anyway, seal clubbing is far better than whaling. Can't beat a good old bunch of Canadians going out every winter to club baby seals to death.
