Title: Re: Question .................Appropriate given todays most viewed topic?? Post by: patman on June 20, 2006, 01:52:48 PM mmmh interesting,
dictators/meglomianiacs get things done type of logic there. I agree initially he got germany going and improved the infrastructure efficient and direct he may have been but good and hitler are not 2 words i would associate. i suspect he got things done by disappearing those that disagreed...not an ethical way of moving things forward. bit like the mafia don at the head of the family.... Title: Re: Question .................Appropriate given todays most viewed topic?? Post by: GlasgowBandit on June 20, 2006, 02:51:40 PM Its a cut and paste jobbie!!
Personally I never found it interesting, but I did think it appropriate given the debate yesterday. As for Hitler he was a great guy he knew what he was doing ;scarymoment; Title: Re: Question .................Appropriate given todays most viewed topic?? Post by: patman on June 20, 2006, 04:09:37 PM was it not one of those "elect me or else" type events.. no sure?....was he not invited into power as he and the national socialists basically paralysed politics and the running of germany if they didnt get their way... Needing support, and thinking he could control Hitler, President Hindenburg made the mistake in January 1933 of giving Hitler the post of Chancellor. Title: Re: Question .................Appropriate given todays most viewed topic?? Post by: Royal Flush on June 20, 2006, 04:17:02 PM The Nazis devised an electoral strategy to win northern farmers and white collar voters in small towns, which produced a landslide victory in September 1930. He refused a chance to form a cabinet, and unwilling to share in a coalition regime. In 1932 Hitler ran for President and won 30% of the vote, forcing Paul von Hindenburg into a runoff election. After a bigger landslide in July 1932 (44%) their vote declined and their movement weakened (Hitler lost the presidential election to WWI veteran Paul von Hindenburg in Apri; elections of November 1932 roughly 42%) so Hitler decided to enter a coalition government as chancellor in January 1933.
When Hindeburg died in 1934, Hitler was the natural successor. You can hardly say he wasnt elected! Title: Re: Question .................Appropriate given todays most viewed topic?? Post by: portfolio on June 20, 2006, 04:54:43 PM james,
for one so erudite and obv informed, i find your defense in this matter naive, misguided and thinly veiled imo. Title: Re: Question .................Appropriate given todays most viewed topic?? Post by: I, Zimbra on June 20, 2006, 05:04:04 PM Hitler's achievements in strengthening a poverty-stricken Germany that was in complete disarray following WWI go hand in hand with his methods of achieving it - which were unsavoury, to say the least.
I don't think anything about that particular period in history can be called 'good'. Perhaps we could figure out a way of rephrasing the statement that Flushy wants to make, in such a way that does not glorify tyranny and mass murder? |
