Title: The Vic Main Event - Day 2 Live Update
Post by: Djinn on June 24, 2006, 03:57:25 PM
Oh, it's so pleasant to be air conditioned!  Back in the Vic, awaiting the final 24 players' arrival.  I am always amazed by how quiet and dark it is in here - outside it's positively glowing and a little sweaty (when you're carrying more than one laptop) but in here it's like midnight.

Anyway, player list coming, and they're all just drifting in now.  You've got me flying solo until 5pm when Tikay will rejoin me for more updating, until the bitter end...

Mark Teltscher    6,500
Surinder Sunar   19,100
Jim Reid            29,725
Julian Gardner     6,075
Osman Mustanoglu  8,450
Dave Colclough    28,850
Michael Greco      19,300
Bob Ballou           4,880
Ivar Rivenaes      26,550
Marc Goodwin    13,600
Sid Harris           13,975
Mike Magee        6,800
John Shipley      19,850
Willie Tann        17,225
Liam Flood         21,975
Ian Woodley       6,125
Roman Yitzhaki      29,825
Dave Clayton        49,750
Jeff Buffenbarger  26,100
Keir Fitzgibbon      18,525
Ryan Fronda         12,475
Iwan Jones          10,450
Scott Fischman     30,700
Ram Vaswani        23,225

There has been a redraw - the blue chip baggies were already in place when I arrived - so these figures from the end of play last night are in no particular order, as it turns out.  Will bring the correct seating positions at the first count, when some of the chips have been redistributed.

So it's Dave Clayton who starts today with the highest stack, and Iit looks like somehow Scott Fischman has taken the second spot, after sitting with what looked like about 3,000 for most of yesterday.  A double up in level 3, I think it was, and he was off... snapping at his heels remain Dave Colclough, Jim Reid and Roman Yitzhaki.

A rather worrying announcement has just been made, to the effect that "If play has not finished by around 4am, remaining players will return the following day at 6pm."  Two day/three day event - who knows?

Oh, well, I have wireless too, Nemesis, it's just that my power cord won't stretch out of my window...

Anyway, here's the first of the last three tables - featuring a smiley Dave who insisted that he wore his blondepoker hat all the time except for that exact second (pic coming just to back him up)

Jen,

Please tell DC that he must win today, no pressure, if he does not make the final table we are going to take away his bedroom in the mansion and make him sleep in the guest house. I think we will invitE a small begal to take his place. ;scarymoment; ;letsparty;

JUST WIN DC, JUST WIN, JUST WIN DC, JUST WIN, JUST WIN DC, JUST WIN, JUST WIN DC, JUST WIN, JUST WIN DC, JUST WIN

Hello hello further watchers - some action at last to bring you -
Sid Harris - OUT
Julian Gardner - OUT and with Js Jh against Willie Tann's Qc Qs.  Two off the same table, and they've moved Mike Magee over there.

Why, thank you Tonji - I will direct Danafish to this lovely illustration (I leave the house to the sound of banjos wailing, and I return to them wailing slightly more quietly with a sock stuffed under the strings almost every day...)

What are the blinds now Jen?

Title: Re: The Vic Main Event - Day 2 Live Update
Post by: Djinn on June 24, 2006, 04:47:44 PM
Ian Woodley finishes in 22nd place -

I caught a threeway hand on the flop, when Liam Flood was just checking the turn in the dark:
Jh 9d 8c, with the Js following.  Next to act was Ian, who bet 2,900, called in position by Ram Vaswani, while Liam got out of the way.
River:  2c.  Now Ian had a decision, and checked (he had under 5k left), while Ram moved in immediately.  Another decision - and he went for it, but mucked when he saw Ram's Td Qh for the flopped straight.

Post by: Djinn on June 24, 2006, 04:49:20 PM
What are the blinds now Jen?

200/400.  Still nice and playable - the word is that if the blinds go down from 90 to 60 minutes, they will stay there, guaranteeing reasonable play all the way through the final, even if it means a surprise reinstatement of the Day Three.

Title: Re: The Vic Main Event - Day 2 Live Update
Post by: Djinn on June 24, 2006, 04:50:48 PM
Sorry hartwith and Welsh Person Fans - Iwan Jones is OUT

A rather less fortunate AK vs. Ram's AQ, all-in preflop.  The Queen hit the flop and form or no form, Iwan's out of this one.  But he qualified for just £400 so it's probably not as painful as it could be.

The Prize Structure - as printed out for me about 30 seconds ago:

1  £90,000
2  £67,500
3  £45,000
4  £22,500

And that's the lot.

Just lost John Shipley - one more player out and we get two tables rather than three.

Well, with the players down to two tables - it's time for the Jon Raab vs Me Pick the Players challenge:

He's opting for Willie Tann and Scott Fischman.
I pick Roman Yitzhaki and Dave Colclough.

We shall see...anyone else?

Surprise Exit For One of Tonji's Picks News Now -

Ram is OUT!  Taken down by one of the only stacks who could do so - Liam Flood.  Mr. Flood moved in (or raised to the point of committal) with the monstrous 8d 8c and Ram went for it with Ac Qh.  A Queen fell on the river, but by then it was too late - Liam had spiked the set on the flop.  New Chip Leader, then.

The Clock has `"moved" to 75 minute levels from & including, this level.

This, by the way, is the 'ol fella, fresh back from a lightning return trip to Birmngham.

Great excitement, too. Our electric Pendlino Branson branded Plastc Train stopped at Nuneaton, where a Diesel Electric Class 47 (old Livery) was hooked up for the rest of the journey due to engineering works. I watched the whole "hooking up" process - fascinating! More details shortly, you will be delighted to know.

Chip Counts from the Final Two Tables (still a long way to go for the money, top four only...)

Table Little Chip (apart from Liam and Willie)

Ivar Rivenaes       13,275
Jeff Buffenbarger  22,500
Mark Teltscher      6,150
Liam Flood           58,000
Dave Colclough    16,300
Willie Tann          73,000
Scott Fischman    31,500
Keir Fitzgibbon     11,150

Table Big Chip (apart from Marc and Osman)

Jim Reid             21,900
Ryan Fronda       27,000
Roman Yitzhaki   43,075
Osman Mustanoglu  9,000
Bob Ballou            17,000
Dave Clayton        50,000
Marc Goodwin       11,300
Mike Magee          22,000
Michael Greco       15,500

Title: Re: The Vic Main Event - Day 2 Live Update

Double Up For Marc Goodwin:  Roman Yitzhaki little-raised on Marc's big blind, got a suspicious 3,100 re-raise.  Tikay saw this hand, and said Roman "Ummed and Ahhed before asking how much to set him in.  6,800 more - he did so with Eights, and Marc called.  With his Aces."

Although the board brought an up and down straight draw for Yitzhaki on the turn, the river was a blank and short-stacked Marc is now more "dangerous..."

Not entirely sure, but he was muttering something about a "bad session" in the last break.  It happens. I can see him from here and he's smiling...
Right before the end of the level, I forgot to mention, he got all-in with AK against.....AK - it looked like a good call with top pair on the river to split the chunky pot.

He hit top pair on the K Q 10 10 board, and raised Scott Fischman's bet all-in - but he was up against the top straight (AJ) and takes his leave in the closing seconds of the pre-dinner-break play...

Well you'll all be glad to know Tikay is getting set up in front of the cameras once again... Rhow will be here in a couple of hours to interview, but til then, Mr. Kendall has his Producer hat on.

Play has restarted and one player taken a quick exit - Ivar Rivenaes, another stack amalgamated with Liam Flood's...

Yes, it's that noise from the mic announcements...

Actually haven't asked, to be honest, but I think the price plus the proximity to the World Series means that people are saving their pennies for the USofA.

I'd be lying if I said I'd remembered to start a parallel thread.

And I don't think we're going to get to the 40-page sort of attention-span-pushing level today.  But I think it was a good idea, and will continue to implement it on live updates.  Something for everyone, you know... but today, nah.

Dave Clayton (bottom right, intense in black) just took out VC-shirt-wearing Ryan Fronda in a big old pot pushing Clayton towards the chip lead himself...

Ryan raised to 2,500 with Qc Qd and gets a call from Dave Clayton (holding Kh Jh)
Flop: Qh Th 3s  Ryan bets 3k, and gets a call rather swiftly, as you may expect.
Turn: Ac  And now it takes off, bet, raise, re-raise, all-in etc. etc.  But the board remained unpaired and sent Qualifier Ryan to the rail, shaking his head.

Thanks Homer... it's actually rather comfortable over here - I haven't tripped over anything, been poked in the ribs, had my foot stepped on or any drinks spilled on me all day.  Enjoying it, in fact.

The blinds are now 400/800 ante 25.  Say what you will about the changing of the clock etc. but there's still a good deal of play.

Jeff Buffenbarger   7,200

Willie Tann           72,000
Scott Fischman     16,000
Keir Fitzgibbon       7,825

Here's shorter stacked Scott Fischman, to the left of Willie and Liam.  Doesn't look like the Give Up Now sort, though, regardless of how often Mark Teltscher beats him...Secretly hoping he makes a comeback from the giant stacks that surround him.  Even though Raab picked him.

Hi All, 8.30pm, & my first Post of the day.

A big thanks to Jen for those kind words about my physical attributes earlier. Kind, but true.

There's a rather nice atmo here at The Vic. The comp is being played in the downstairs "cash room" area. The cafeteria area has been turned into a World Cup Viewing Area, & the cash games are on the top floor.

Wille is sitting at his table, seemingly bored out of his mind, head resting in hands, barely looking up.

Liam, with a huge pile of chips, is nice & cheerful, quipping away.

Jeff Buff is, by his standards, remarkably quiet. One can't say the same about his table neighbour, Mark Telscher, who is chatting 13 to the dozen.

Not said much about Jim Reid recently, but pictures apparently make up for 1,000 or so words so here he is - quite an intimidating expression.  I think Snoopy spends half an hour in front of the mirror every day trying to replicate such a face.

Meanwhile, on Table Tough Guy, it's positively "Sharks & Jets", all of therm seem well hard.

Dave Clayton - well, he's deffo a bit psycho, don't mess with him. Greco is giving it his Mr Tough Guy look, Jim Reid ain't far behind, & Os Mustanoglu is impressing his lady with his manly scowl.

Meanwhile, Marc Goodwin, wearing a quite extraordinary suit, ( I assume it was once the property of a hill farmer) is sitting there positively angelic, doing his impression of a cross between Cliff Richard & Peter Pan.

All rather surreal.

The amiable Jeff Buff is OUT.

By coincidence, it came as he made his 250th steal of the comp, this time with  Kh 9s, but found Mark Telscher in a non-negotiable mood with  8c 8d.

A no-drama flop, &, sadly, we say goodbye to Michigan Jeff.

Jeff runs a business which salvages "dead" mobile phones & photocopiers, plays golf off 12, & made a tidy living at the Poker Tables prior to being coached by Colchester Kev. We've lost a bit of colour with Jeff's departure.

Marc Goodwin loses 30k, doubling Mike Magee up in the process -
Marc raised under the gun, and neighbour Mike made it 11k...Marc decided to go for it, calling the pre-flop daring all-in with 4s 4h.  But Mike had 7d 7c, and hit the 7s on the flop to seal the deal.

So, 13 left, blinds 500 - 1,000 for the next 65 minutes, running ante 50.

Average Stack is 34,600.

So, you lot, what time do you think we will reach our 9 man Final?

And, for a bonus point, will they chop/deal, & if so, with how many left?

And no sooner we asked how long before the Final than we lose three players in triple quick time.

Jim Reid perished at the hands of Roman Yitzhaki (9-9 v QQ), then Mike Magee (QQ ) also fell to Mr Yitzhaki (AK).

Meanwhile, on Table Flood, the genial Liam is not even thinking about ebbing, having now disposed of the less than genial, though thoroughly well-behaved, Scott Fischmann.

10 left, & under the circumstances, we will re-open the "what time the Final & will they deal & at what stage?" comp. Expect Ariston to be out first though.

I  expect the 10th player to exit just before 10pm. They WILL chop, & it will be 5 handed.

HAND FOR HAND

Table Flood

Bob Ballou       26,350  (I am determined to watch a hand this gentleman is involved in!  He's been there with a modest stack all day and shows no sign of fatigue)
Mark Teltscher  34,000
Liam Flood       130,000  (An extra boost coming from the elimination of Scott Fischman just now)
Willie Tann       67,000
Keir Fitzgibbon  18,600

Table Clayton

Roman Yitzhaki  55,000  (double knockout and my pick back up to speed)
Osman Mustanoglu  22,300
Dave Clayton         80,000
Marc Goodwin       15,150  ("This is a semi-nightmare..."  ?  )
Michael Greco       23,800

So it's kind of like a bubble - but remember only 4 get paid, so 5th is as good as 10th.  Unless some discussion takes place later.

And we have a final -after Mark Teltscher is eliminated in 10th place...

Keir Fitzgibbon raised on the cutoff and small blind small stack Mark moved in for 15k (original bet 3,250).  A lengthy dwell, before Keir called, showing 7d 7h.
Mark showed Ahrt Js

Flop:  7s Qc 4h
Turn:  Kc
River:  2s

And they are combining to play for those four prizes...

So my entry is declared the winner.

And Mr. Cool can breathe out now, as he was biting his fingernails over the finishing 9th or above thing - apparently this is going to put him at the top of the rankings, "for once!"  Big grin from Marc, saying he's just rung ActionJack to ask a pointed question, "Is there anyone you know above me in those European Rankings?"

At the last Vic Fessie, Marc Goodwin only needed to Final to go to the top of the Euro Rankings leaderboard - but he bubbled.

Amazingly, he faced the same situation tonight. But he Finalled tonight, & those 165 points will, according to Mr Brown Suit, take him to the top of the Rankings by some 100 points.

So, there's a break at the moment, but when they get back, the rundown of the final will commence - chips and seat positions, photos.  The lot.

We expect dealing to be done, but not overly soon.

No sooner than the first hand was dealt, than big Os Mustanoglu, who's battled all day with a mini-stack, asked the inevitable question - "anyone fancy £5k each & play for the rest?"

And of course the inevitable reply from the deep stacked Mr Flood - "err, no, I don't agree".

Expect more negotiations soon.

A big pot goes off between Willie Tann & Keir Fitzgibbon. Willie bets pre-flop, flop & turn of a raggety taggety board.

Keir calls every bet. On the River, Wille just checks, Keir bets 15k into a 20k Pot. Wilie says "you have nothing, you have nothing". But he mucks, & Keir takes a hefty pot.

Mr O'Flood

Robert, that was an under 12 comp

years or stone, I get disqualified either way.

Hi Robert,

Very well thanks, great night, thanks for making Chrissy feel welcomed to the poker scene.

And the almost certain postscript to the short-stacked Big Os having his request for a £5k saver rejected, is that the Poker Gods smile on him at last. He gets 3 way action with Kings, (Dave Clayton had AK & Willie had an interest) & he 4 flushed it in hearts, & is up to 50k plus now.

He'll be rejecting offers for savers soon, you watch.

There are 15 minutes left at the 500 - 1,000 (ante 50) Level, and the average stack is 50,000 - 50 Big Blinds!

Meanwhile, Dave Clayton, who's had a bad hour, finds Aces, &, even better, a customer, Mr Yitzhaki, with Queens, & gets a full double up to 76k.

Blinds now 60 - 1,200, with an ante of 75. That's, near as makes no difference, 40 Big Blinds for an average stack of 50k.

This may take a while.

Ian Oldershaw gave it to me as a Chrissie Pressie 6 years ago, but it wore out after I'd watched it dozens of times. So Tom (Red-Dog) gave me another copy for my Birthday last year, but then my VCR died. It happened to be on BBC3 on Friday, wonderful.

Jen says I can buy a DCD & watch it on my Computer, so that's what I'm gonna do.

Sorry to interrupt with some stuff occurring on The Table - although it's mainly raise, pass from the blinds, or raise, re-raise, think and fold.  Can't complain though, it's what we're always nagging for - a final with proper stacks for the blinds, and plenty of play for some not-too-shabby players.

Recently it's been Roman Yitzhaki raising Willie Tann's big blind, getting a "Roman, careful..." and then a pass.  "I was hoping to double through.." responds RY.

Oh, and low stack Marc pushes in once, getting rid of early raiser Keir.

And that's about it.

Bob Ballou is our 9th place finisher!

Just when we thought we'd go and get more apple pie (it is rather nice), Bob moved in with his 8s 8c, and found Marc Goodwin had Qd Qs.  Thanks to a bit of manoevring early on Marc just covered Bob, and the final is now eight-handed.

hi Tikay,

Can you pass on my best wishes to my countryman Mr Flood for me please.  Perhaps now would be a good time to discuss this weeks events.  £1000 freeze out then £200 REBUY...Then a couple of non events. And to finish a £5000 which draws fewer than 50 runners. I know as Blonde is given access to the card rooms you need to be PC but these events are not in line with what is acceptable in the UK. We the players need to speak up.

How many people can afford to pay about £8000 For a weeks poker. I for one went to the Sportsman last night. Yes I did try and win a sat for the Vic with no luck, but even if i had Tikay's wedge i would not have bought in. The card rooms need to remember that it is only a couple of years ago when  a £1000 was the main event. I am pleased to see that we have spoken with our feet  and our wallet this week.  The staff on the ground at the Vic and elsewhere are not to blame.....we need to go to the management. These people seem to have no idea of what we need to survive in this arena. They add nothing and they charge £10 for a FREE buffet.  By the way for £100 at the sportsman i chopped £9200 three ways. 30 times investment.

Well it's all too easy to "knock" the Organisers, but I gota agree with Denis & even Iron, the cost of Fessies, coming one straight after the other now, is just too much, & I think the Fessie Numbers in the last month should be a wake-up call for the Casinos.

If ONLY we had a "voice", a channel by which we could chat with the Casino Groups. They WOULD listen, I'm sure, but we don't have a representative whom we can send to see & chat with the Casinos. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

If ONLY we had a "voice", a channel by which we could chat with the Casino Groups. They WOULD listen, I'm sure, but we don't have a representative whom we can send to see & chat with the Casinos. Crazy, crazy, crazy.
TK I know yr busy m8 but there would be nobody better to represent the players, as u are one yrself(Or so I was led to believe)

Irishdenis makes a good point

i used to enjoy playing in the vic but its too expensive now

£1000 for the support events is too much

yes the vic is the grosvenor flagship and is in the countries capital so should be able to charge a little extra for its festivals but for the

past year its gone OTT

ps good luck to all the remaining players i hope you all win

I'd be happy to, Iwan, but it ain't that simple, I'd need a Mandate. Gentle but persistent Lobbying is the way.

We will try & get some concensus of opinion on blonde next week, & then I'll run it past a few Casino Suits.

Short Stack Greco Just Won't Go -

With less than 19k, Michael called Willie Tann's early position raise to 3,600 (blinds now 800/1,600 ante 100), but check-passed the 8s 2s 2c flop.  Now down precariously low, he called Keir Fitzgibbon's raise to 3,200 along with Osman from the small blind, probably intending to do just what he did - instapush all in on the 5s Qs 6h flop.  It worked, he's stable, but needs a double through...

Double up for Osman Mustanoglu -

On a Kh 3h 5h flop, Keir can be forgiven for betting with his Kd 9h, and pretty short Os must have been quite happy to put his stack in with Qs Ks -
The turn and river:  6h 8s, and the neighbours shook hands as the chip tide turned in Osman's direction.  Still not a stack to challenge Clayton, but plenty of time.  And we're not sleepy at all, not even a little bit.

I am happy for blonde to be used as the medium by which some sort of concensus is formed.

That aside, I'd say "watch this space", as things ARE happening sub-surface.

All will become clear in the fullness of time.

Keir makes the all-in preflop push of his 18,900... and Marc Goodwin on the small blind goes into a Tortured Tank - hands on head, counts out the call chips, stares, but passes.  AQ.  We here in Press Corner think he's been moving in rather a lot... but with one of the two shortest stacks he hasn't that much leeway.

100k pot goes to Liam Flood...

On a 7c 2h Jh flop, Dave Clayton, the other Mr. Big Chip, bet out a stack of yellows (probably 45k) and got a quick flat call from Liam.
Turn:  3d  Check-check.
River:  6h  Now Dave, down to 50k or so, checks, and Mr. Flood bets a multicoloured stack of somewhere in the 40k region.  Dave Clayton passes, while I think I heard Liam mutter something about "An old, old Irish man..."

Latest on Tournament Overall - It seems we're back to square one all of a sudden, in that if the thing isn't over one way or another in an hour and a half, they now tell us there WILL be a third day's play tomorrow starting 6pm.

All that rushing around by Rhow and Tikay.  Ah well, they're getting to sit quietly resting now.

And I know it looks like I am reporting conflicting things with an assured tone, and that's because I am.  Sorry - I refer you to the last line on the tournament information sheet from day One: "We reserve the right to amend our rules and/or the prize/ante structures."  I think that covers stuff like this.

Well, I got my orders - "find someone interesting for a 425 Profile".

I could only see David Young & Neil Bad beat Channing, & Channing, on the toss of a coin, got the nod. He's waffling away now like a good 'un, bless him. The 3 minute profile currently stands at 17 minutes, & Rhow is only on Question 3.

Marc Goodwin Perks Up News Now -

With a doublethrough courtesy of Liam Flood, who was button when Marc was big blind.  Well, he always is.  Anyway -
Flop:  Td 7s Jd  Liam bet out, and had really committed himself to call when Marc pushed in.
Liam showed:  Ahrt Kh
Marc showed:  Ad 4d
Turn:  Kd
River:  Aspades and that meant two pair for Liam but the nut flush for Marc - big chips for the first time this tournament!

Other approximate counts:

Dave Clayton      45,000
Keir Fitzgibbon    22,000 or 32,000 depending on what colour a chip is I can't quite see (there are now a couple of blue 10k ones floating about)
Osman Mustanoglu   60,000
Liam Flood             140,000
Michael Greco          9,400
Marc Goodwin        100,000
Willie Tann             75,000

Talking of Fessie Costs, here is the Schedule for the European Poker Championship here at The Vic in September.

Saturday 16th - PL Omaha Hi-Lo, £250 + £25, Unlimited Rebuys + Top-Up.

Sunday 17th - PLO Double chance Freezeout, £1,000 + £40, Unlimited Rebuys (!) + Top Up. (Clearly a Typo)

Monday 18th - PLHE, £200 + £20, Unlimited Rebuys + Top-Up

Tuesday 19th NLHE Double Chance Freezeout, £1,000 + £40

Wednesday 20th NLHE Freezeout, £300 + £30

Thursday 21st (to Sunday 24th), EPT NLHE Freezeout, £3,500 b+ £50

Sunday 24th, £500 + £30 Freeze

So, allowing for 1 Rebuy and a Top-Up in the appropriate comps, I make that £7,885 for the week. Now that's serious dosh.

7 left, though one, Mr Greco, is seriously short on chips.

Play ends in 30 minutes.

Day Three? We don't know, but it HAS been re-scheduled as a 3 day comp, so unless a chop is achieved, yup, we will return on Sunday.

Now Six left, as Michael Greco finishes in 7th place at the 11th hour.

When Osman raised to 6k preflop, Michael had to make a stand with his 6h 6d - and he found Ahrt Td against him.
The board came a decisive:  7h Ac 3c Aspades 8c  and a frustrated Greco gets his post-long-day knockout interview.

All I can hear is, "I hated every minute of it...Pocket Sixes the best thing I've seen since 4:00."  Shortstacked for ten hours, can't have been all that much fun.

A reminder that we have 6 left, and 4 get paid.........

The Winner is due to get £90,000, & 4th gets £22,500 I seem to recall. Fifth & sixth get naff all.

Deal or No Deal?

Lulled into a sense of nothing going to happen for a bit, I had almost left the card room when I heard "on their backs..."

It was Dave Clayton who finished in 6th place after a long and hard fought day.

His Qs Ks was taken on by Osman Mustanoglu's Aspades Td which hit the Ace, and although in Dave's own words, "I had a chance then to hit the backdoor flush" it was not to be and he finishes squeakily close to the money.

So that means 5 left, 4 get paid, & 20 minutes to close of play.

Deal or No Deal?

And they have agreed to take £1,000 of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th places to give the 5th place finisher, whoever that may be, £4,000.

So he'll only lose just over £1,000 for finishing 5th.

And it's all happening now - Keir Fitzgibbon finishes in 5th place, taking his consolation £4,000

Keir was caught with the (live?) 7s 2d!

The first four cards brought the three cards which padded out Os's A 10 into the top straight; hands were shook and Keir heads for the cameras.

And there - perhaps - you have your evidence that doing a deal/saver DOES affect the way the game plays. The 5th place finisher had 16k with blinds at 1k-2k, & moved in with 7-2.

Chip Counts imminent.

So we're left with Liam, Willie, Mr Cool & Osman Mustanoglu (sp?) then, are we?

Just ran into Keir in the packed Vic main room area - turns out he's actually made a tidy profit, as he satellited in on the cheap!  Extra level of tiredness, though, as he had another day's play in advance of these two lengthy ones.

And the final counts for the day:

Liam Flood             200,300
Willie Tann              90,500
Marc Goodwin          84,800
Osman Mustanoglu    74,400

So I'll be back tomorrow, 6pm for the thrilling conclusion to this Two Day Three Day No Limit Hold'em Freezeout.

Goodnight!

Jen is inputting the Chip Counts right now.

From me, a big thanks to our Heroine, Jen, to The Vic, to the Players, & to the blonde audience.

I'm cream-crackered, after a really weird weekend, much of which was spent heading north & South on trains.

But much was achieved, I had a ball, & life is good.

But I have to defer to the snoopster's immortal sign off.

Stick a fork in me.

xx

Why should it affect the ranking points?
Its exactly the same principle as when something is saved for 10th place in a 9 handed final.

Good point Craig, I remember asking if the ranking points were frozen after a tenth place saver was done in Walsall.

The answer given was that that kind of deal did not affect the points ???

I think it was decided against having a "lite" report for day 2 at an early stage, it wasn't expected to run into a lot of pages, but there you go!

You may be right Craig, but I'm not conviced - either way - yet.

The thing is - using your example - 10th place would NOT have got any Ranking Points anyway.

However, here in this Comp, although the cash only goes down to 4th (5, post the "saver"), the Ranking Points go down to 9th place, thus including the guy who got a little deal, 5th place Keir. And maybe, just maybe, that "saver" (a tidy £4,000) changed the way he played after he'd got his £4,000 locked up....

Tell you what - I'll drop a note to Mr Shoreman. He is, in these matters, the only man that matters.

For the record.
Any suggestion that I moved in for my last 16,500 with 72 offsuit because a save had been agreed for fifth place is laughable. I already knew i would push with any two cards if nobody raised in front of me. Not because I was comfortable with 4k for fifth place but because it's my best shot to avoid being blinded away and have a shot at first place. Winning the 3.5k in the pot already from the blinds and antes would increase my stack by nearly 25%. 3 of my 4 opponents had already folded which is already an exceptionally  favourable situation. It was a mild disappointment to find only 72 in the pocket but the cards were really irrelevant. The only reason I looked was in case I had a very big pair I might call instead of moving in. My estimate was that Osman would only call with the top 25% of hands. Even when called I can expect to win (and double up) 20-30 % of the time. On the actual hand I was called by A10s, I'll win 30% of the time and finish up with over 30,000. and a real chance of survival. IF there was 0 for fifth place I should play even MORE aggressively because the penalty for being blinded away would be greater. I have to get back into contention or die trying. (I'm not sure  it is possible to play more aggressively than moving all in with 72o but if it were. I would)

According to the "Official" Ranking Criteria all the Finalists will get Ranking Points, but the "number of players mutiplier" is just 1.

Nicely put Keir & well played,.

It's now clear you did not allow the saver to affect your play, & I am happy to accept that. But we said "it may, just maybe" & "perhaps it would affect"......the way people play "post saver". And it DOES affect the way some people play - though clearly not you.

Well played, a great performance, & welcome to blonde. Another lurker signed-up, thank you!
