Title: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: bolt pp on June 25, 2006, 12:20:23 AM I cant seem to get a game without someones stats being check out, usually as a per cursor to some sort of derision or insult.
Its really starting to wind me up, i feel sorry for the victims, most of whom play recreationaly. I think its not only a form of cheating in that it allows the full time players an unfair insight into the caliber of their opponents but it now serves as the primary weapon for the on line idiots who amuse themselfs by upsetting and degrading others. Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: bundle on June 25, 2006, 12:40:46 AM It might seem a little anti social, but for the last two months or so I have had my chat options turned off on all the sites I play, reminds me why I’m there.
Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: Nem on June 25, 2006, 12:44:36 AM I just turn the chat off, as bundle said "reminds me why I’m there."
Anyway, I do enough chatting here! :D Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: jimjamjay on June 25, 2006, 12:55:03 AM Hi- I only heard of sharkscope today and checked it out - personally I am fine with this and the Poker DB etc ...... as long as is accessable to everyone.
You can all look up how bad a player I am anytime :D Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: AceofWands on June 25, 2006, 01:24:08 AM It is an invasion of privacy but I suppose that you do gain some crumbs of comfort from knowing the moron who has just sucked you out is a couple of thousand bucks down. And I suppose some people just can't resist making sure that everyone else on the table knows this as well.
If you email them don't they allow you to go "ex-directory"? Ac Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: bolt pp on June 25, 2006, 01:49:13 AM If you email them don't they allow you to go "ex-directory"? Ac I've seen, on a couple of occasions, people disparaged for having their stats deactivated, the inference being that their embarrassed by them. Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: TheJagster on June 25, 2006, 09:00:14 AM Afew weeks ago I had a cute little picture of a goldfish next to my name on Scope....Its gone now.
It reminded me of a childhood pet I had...........Ive emailed them to ask if I can have it back. Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: Jim-D on October 14, 2006, 01:04:01 PM I've only just used this for the 1st time and im quite impressed (known of it for a while)
I have never really kept records for any length of time so checked out my stars ID and with nearly 200 tourneys I have a ROI of 22% (even says im Hot wihich is nice) :D Its great having someone else keeping records for ya lol Also i just checked another player alias tht was on my table ($10) and he has over 500 sng's at the $100 level and has made $18.000 profit in total (and i beat him heads up ;) Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: mex on October 14, 2006, 06:08:48 PM Sharkscope says im on tilt because i lost 3 stt's in a row???? You can email and be removed from the data base, i ve sent mine for removal, not because of the results more because it dispalys profit, if i was going to breach someones account i would look for one turning a big profit and also look for them to go on holiday, (look for a period of inactivity)
Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: mex on October 15, 2006, 07:45:29 PM now it says im running hot? does it have hot or tilt as the only two options?

Its a piece of shit. It only does a couple of sites. And it only does STTs for crypto and stars. Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? And it only does STTs for crypto and stars. It provides data for PokerStars, FullTilt, CryptoLogic, Ongame, Pacific Poker and Poker.com networks, and there's a beta version for Party. It also records results for the 180 seat sit and goes on Stars. Personally, I don't think it's too much of an issue. If you play a multi-table tournament, most online sites have leaderboards. I don't think sharkscope is much different than that. I'm a regular sit and go player at the $50 level. I've a monthly subscription with sharkscope, because I do think my play has improved using it. (It means I get 155 searches a day instead of just the 5 free ones.) Surprisingly, I don't have a problem tackling the sharks, but it's the fish you have to watch. Any fancy play just goes completely over their heads. Trying to bluff them out of a pot is very difficult. The sharks tend to give a raise more respect. Saying that, sharkscope isn't going to magically make a losing player into a winning one. But it does help identify the relative strength of your opposition. With regards to the icons, etc. it will describe you as "hot" if you finish in the money for three consecutive results, "super hot" if you're in the money six times in a row. If you're on "tilt" you've lost four in a row, and if you're unlucky enough to be on supertilt, then you've lost 8 in a row. The goldfish and shark symbols only appear if your average Return On Investment (ROI) is over or under a certain percentage. However, if you are a shark who only plays lower level sit and goes, your ROI will be significantly higher to qualify for that status, than a shark who plays at higher levels. This is to compensate for the increased difficulty at higher level games where you would expect your ROI percentage to fall. In case you are interested, I'm neither a shark or a goldfish... more like an octopus really! I must admit I really hate people who try and ridicule other players though, by saying they're a losing player and all that. For one thing, they don't really know. Who's to say that the guy who's lost a couple of thousand playing STTs isn't an exceptionally good cash game or MTT player, who's just joined a STT as a way to relax? Or they may simply be going through a downswing. They may get upset enough to either try and improve their game, or give it up as a bad job and leave online poker altogether. The idiots who can't keep their big mouths shut, and feel they have to insult others at the table - they're the real fish. Because once they've scared off all the losing players, that cuts deep into their own profits. They will then find that their opponents are a lot tougher than they are, and they'll start losing in turn. Being polite, show a little dignity and grace, costs absolutely nothing, but can be far more profitable in the long term. Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? STTs is great if you are an STT monkey. But only doing one of the major networks makes it suck IMO. In a way I'm glad it doesn't do Tribeca. Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Post by: Longy on October 16, 2006, 03:36:24 PM I do tend to use sharkscope but more as a fun resource which allows me to compare my progress with other regulars on the site. I do note stats against players when i have searched but thats only really so i don't have to search them.
The only real use it has in play IMO is in the early stages, if you get a hand like ak preflop a players ability often determines whether its +ev to lay it down to a re raise or 3 bet all in, because of the fishes wider range. Well if you look at www.pokersitescout.com (the only reliable traffic reporter tho it is cash but the traffic for stt's is proportional) you wiill see sharkscope covers the top 4 sites and 5 of the top 6. Tribecca is only the 10th biggest site. Title: Re: Is sharkscope p***ing everyone else off? Who's to say that the guy who's lost a couple of thousand playing STTs isn't an exceptionally good cash game or MTT player, who's just joined a STT as a way to relax? Or they may simply be going through a downswing. Someone pointed me in the direction of this site over the weekend after i made a move on them in a battle of the blinds whilst playing a satellite for the sunday $215 (one which lead to me outdrawing them :D) and he spent a good 15 minutes ridiculing my sharkscope saying my ROI was a measly 8%. When i pointed out the fact that i'm an MTT player and i only play STT as satellites into bigger events where there is only one prize and that wasnt very often it didnt seem to have much effect. So i told him to look at my MTT record as well and he suddenly disappeared :( Ho hum!! |
