Title: Ashley Cole, Aaayyyaaarrr
Post by: TightEnd on June 26, 2006, 01:04:38 AM
forget the Beckham free kick (brilliant nonetheless) and Carrick's distribution and Rooney's running and Lampard's shooting (doh!)

How about Cole's recovery block after Terry's mistake?

20 yards to make up, saves a certain goal

Great great defending

Ashley's played well all tourney but today he really did well.

Even Hargreaves played well at right back I thought. I'll give myself a  :redcard: for saying it but I thought he did well :)

i though cole was englands best player by a long distance today.

But you are going to find it difficult to win a world cup with no striking options. Serbia created more attacking chances in their 6-0 gubbing by the Argies that England have managed in 4 games.

But they are out and England are still in. Even if we win ugly 1-0's all the way, it doesn't matter.

Its funny. Go back 5 years and as a huge fan of Italian football and the Italian national side all i used to hear was "yeah but you are boring, who cares if you win" "Italian teams just play badly and eek 1-0 results, its crap" etc etc.

Now its England scraping through on poor games, i cant think of a game worse than ANY of the England games so far this world cup. However it now "doesn't matter"

English football fans are just great!!! Its like shooting fish in a barrell!

A lot of generalising here.

I'm not one of "them English fans" who thinks that Italian football is boring. I alson don't think that the Italian National side play boring football.

Cole is younger, injured less and has no serious competition...

Whats the caps and ages?

Plenty of players have come back well after injury, at least the drop in pace might help his hamstring issues (god I am clutching at straws for some positives for NUFC!)

Owen has 80 caps, Ashley has 50!

Owen would have to be injured for 4 years for Ashely to catch up, by which time he will be 30.

I don't think Owen will keep his place though. Plus Cole has 2 years on age on him and will probably be fitter for longer as their career's hit the 30's.

Cole has 1 year.

Cole : 20/12/80

Owen: 14/12/79

I was being approximate, I know Owen is 26, thought Cole was 24.

Still I think competition for places and fitness are the key here.

Which strikers? I think Walcott is the only rela young lad with lots of hype and they normally have the hype if they are going to do it....

30 caps is a lot... I'm not sure Owen will get there but I dont think Cole will either

Owen is one of the English Golden Boys, Rooney and Beckham being the others. If he is fit, he will play for England. Do you honestly think that McClaren will drop him?

I would swap Keane and Defoe for Owen. The guy is World Class. He would get into any team.

Do you think Tottenham would mind this switch for the next six months?!
