Title: Wimbledon....advice Post by: TightEnd on June 26, 2006, 01:23:49 PM If I wanted a modest interest at a good price in either the mens or ladies singles who should I look at?
Federer is favourite with a tough draw, but who is an up and coming youngster to watch? What's going to give me a good run for my money? Karabiner, i think you might be our resident tennis expert, but all views considered (except Henman or any brit!) Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Gryff on June 26, 2006, 01:33:23 PM Nadal is great...on clay.
Nobody is going to beat Federer unless he takes injuries though. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Rooky9 on June 26, 2006, 01:34:46 PM Erm there are a few good Russians and eastern europeans in the womens comp worth watching... not sure they would make you any money thou!
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: matt674 on June 26, 2006, 01:36:35 PM Cliff Richard to instigate or partake in a sing-a-long during a break in play caused by bad weather.
License to print money!! As for the tournaments themselves sorry but cant be of much use - of all the sports in the monkey olympics monkeytennis was one of my least favourites and so i dont follow it much :( Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: TightEnd on June 26, 2006, 01:41:40 PM Mr BlueSquare is going to be very unhappy with the betting opportunities afforded by the first three responses. Unhappy cos I want a fun bet that will inevitably lose, that is.

Unhappy cos I want a fun bet that will inevitably lose, that is. Well if you want a fun bet that will inevitably lose then why didnt you say so!! Any British player to win either the mens or ladies singles event....... Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Horneris on June 26, 2006, 01:49:21 PM James Blake - to make the semis.
Verdasco should also do well, but no chance of winning it. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: smithy69 on June 26, 2006, 02:04:29 PM Vliegan for the men,s e/w is a cracking bet , dont fancy federer to win
myskina for the ladies Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Graham C on June 26, 2006, 02:33:15 PM James Blake - to make the semis. ;iagree; Blake is a good player and did well last week at Eastbourne/Queens (can't remember which)Also, I shall be looking at Ancic - he's a classy player and is a contender imo. For the laydees, I'd say the usual suspects to be honest. I quite like Hingis but that's just personal opinion - she is playing reasonably well at the moment. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Rupert on June 26, 2006, 03:10:56 PM Justine Henin-Hardenne to win the womens at 4/1. Just off the back of a win at the French Open and a grass court win at Eastbourne there is great value for money at this price.
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Karabiner on June 26, 2006, 03:25:12 PM Thanks for the flattery Mr End, and yes I do have one small fancy at a decent price.
I've had a small interest on Nicole Vaidisova @ 14/1 for the Ladies singles. She has immense talent and it's only a matter of time before she dominates women's tennis imo. But she's only seventeen and has a bit of a temperament. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Nem on June 26, 2006, 05:44:12 PM Justine Henin-Hardenne to win the womens at 4/1. Just off the back of a win at the French Open and a grass court win at Eastbourne there is great value for money at this price. Her serve isn't strong enough. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: The Baron on June 26, 2006, 10:18:57 PM Nadal is great...on clay. Nobody is going to beat Federer unless he takes injuries though. I agree with this 100%. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Karabiner on June 26, 2006, 10:31:32 PM The fact that Federer is 4/9 with most bookmakers is an indication......
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: thetank on June 26, 2006, 10:32:09 PM Lay Henman/Murray if they win their first 3 matches.
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: crip17 on June 27, 2006, 07:13:40 AM Justine Henin-Hardenne i strongly fancy to win the womans. You can get a decent price as well.
mens - i always bet on Ruddick for some reason and he always lets me down. Maybe its his year ;hide; :)up Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Acidmouse on June 27, 2006, 12:28:13 PM Justine Henin-Hardenne to win the womens at 4/1. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Graham C on June 27, 2006, 12:33:51 PM He's got Henman in the 2nd round though ;)
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Junior Senior on June 27, 2006, 01:00:14 PM its odd on (approx 1/4) for me to drive from NG24 to SW19 and kill Tim Henman with the court one net cord at the first change - I HATE the fake faced pompus toffnosed tosser soooooo much i am beginning to tilt jut writing his name. - get on it, I am feeling the annual fury begin to take over. -
Anyone else REALLY hate Henman - i am thinking of putting some landmines on Henman Hill as punnishment to his supporters Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: The Baron on June 27, 2006, 01:36:27 PM its odd on (approx 1/4) for me to drive from NG24 to SW19 and kill Tim Henman with the court one net cord at the first change - I HATE the fake faced pompus toffnosed tosser soooooo much i am beginning to tilt jut writing his name. - get on it, I am feeling the annual fury begin to take over. - Anyone else REALLY hate Henman - i am thinking of putting some landmines on Henman Hill as punnishment to his supporters Agreed! Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: thetank on June 27, 2006, 01:52:18 PM If Henman wins his first couple of matches, will he be playing on Saturday?
Rather tempted to head over to the hill to see if anyone really does shout "Come on Timmy" and not be taking the piss. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: booder on June 27, 2006, 02:04:03 PM are you a pirate now tank?
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Rupert on June 27, 2006, 02:05:49 PM Justine has just won her first match 6-0 6-1, absolutely destroyed her opponent. You can still get 4.8 on the exchanges which is still a pretty good price
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: booder on June 27, 2006, 02:07:34 PM are you a pirate now tank? pirate where are your buccaneers..........................under me bucken hat Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: thetank on June 27, 2006, 02:09:19 PM are you a pirate now tank? Tiger? Who are they trying to kid? The guy couldn't beat an egg! The guy has the personality of Alan Shearer. Henmania indeed. Whats the problem with Tim Henman? Okay so he isnt a good enough tennis player to win grand slams, but there are only really 4 or 5 people at anyone time in the world that are. Reaching whatever ranking he did at his peak, 5th ish I think, is a hell of an achievement. There really are only a handful of people who can ever claim to be this elite at anything! He does not represent our country in any of these events. He is represeting himself, just happens to be english, and so a load of people get behind him. (and therefore great a sense of pressure) Really dont understand why people feel the need to knock others so much, and I honestly don't think you can judge peoples personalities when all you see of them is media quotes and intervies - this is obviously not who these people are. Obviously the above is all very different to finding someone annoying for whatever reason.... Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: bolt pp on June 27, 2006, 05:42:45 PM I love Tim henman, Ive made so much money backing against him in the semis.
I remember about 4 or 5 years ago i was in hertfordshire and i had about 2k on me, i was drinking with some people raving about how henman was gonna get turned over by ivanisavic. I backed ivanisavic to bt him a 6/4 i think for £1000. I remember that i done the rest of he money i had on me in the betting shop and half of it was for a car i was supposed to be buying my girlfriend. I was praying that ivanisavic would do it to get my dough back. rained off all day!!!!! i couldn't go back to London without the money so stayed at my mates house. Saturday, same thing intermittent play due to rain, had to kip at my mates house again!!!! sunday he finally gets the win but i was out with my mate and didn't find out till the next morning, It must have been the longest tennis match in history i mean ffs, i was under so much pressure for 4 days!!!!!!! I was going to put it all back on him to bt rafter in the final on the monday but didnt really have the bottle, it was all or nothing i didnt want to just put the £1k profit on as i'd sweated so much for it and i didnt have the bottle to put the lot on as i knew my missus suspected after not seeing me all weekend that something along these lines had occurred, shame, it was a brilliant final i remember and he won it!! Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Junior Senior on June 28, 2006, 09:25:04 AM I'm not talking about his talent. - he's an ok player but he's never actually won anything of note. Its his personality i can't stand. - those fake fist pumps, his wooden smile, his chumpy chin, his square haircut, his monotone voice, his inability to accept he isn't good enough, his criticism of anything but his own play, complaints of bad calls, bad bounces, uneven courts etc etc. Unlike Baron, i CAN explain why i hate him. - its just everything about him that i find annoying, he honestly makes my blood boil and sends me on proper tilt.. TIGER TIM, MY ARSE!!

TIGER TIM, MY ARSE!! My point is you dont see his personality - you see his 'professional' side. I'm sure he has never called himself tiger tim and probably cringes just as much, if not more, than everyone else - I think it was a commentator being ironic that came up with it. I'd suggest not watching Wimbledon whilst playing a cash game!! But you probably wont have to avoid it for longer than todays game! Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Sark79 on June 28, 2006, 11:43:34 PM For pure sex appeal, you can't beat Martina Hingis . I also rate her for the win as well

Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Sark79 on June 29, 2006, 12:36:27 AM lol I have always had a crush on Hingis. Unfortunately she only seems to date rich men like Sergio Garcia and Magnus Norman. I better get the WSOP won quick if I am to stand a chance :D
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Rupert on June 30, 2006, 09:18:50 PM Martina out, no real surprises since she is largely overrated by most. Just gotta sweat Justine now, she is playing really well and I still don't see a reason why she can't win it.
Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Rupert on July 08, 2006, 04:39:17 PM Ugh horrible game, had £120 on Justine from the go but laid her off at 1.49 before the match to lock a £60 profit, but would have been £400 if she kept her game together. She injured her shoulder at the start of the second set which proved costly in the end...

She injured her shoulder at the start of the second set which proved costly in the end... Or was it because she finally faced one of the big serving women? IMO, this was her best chance at winning Wimbledon. She is a great player, I hope she does win Wimbledon one day. Title: Re: Wimbledon....advice Post by: Rupert on July 09, 2006, 11:38:33 AM Mauresmo played fantastically but you could visibly see that Justine was having trouble with her first serves, she missed something like 50% of them.
