Great book, just come through the post at the weekend, havent been able to put the book down, a great read 8)

Great book so far.   I have found an error on page 54.  The author calls Phil Ivey  " Paul Ivey ".   

Was "The Builder" on Late Night Poker?

Yea, they must have had builders to make the sets.  They probably had electricians, plumbers and designers as well .

jus bought this book today, can't wait to get stuck into it!

My copy of the book is missing pages 155-170. After the picture section it jumps backwards to page 139 and has a duplicate section 139-154 then leaps forward to page 171!

So basically I'm missing pages 155 to 170 and have two copies of pages 139-154!

Anyone else find this? I will email the publisher.

ps it's a good read.

Have read the book and found it to be excellant, slightly biased as Des is a friend of mine from back in sunny cornwall.

He is currently working on his 2nd book, to do with the "history of the game" due to be published, i believe 2008.

he is also a very good live player, having played many times on the Cornwall Poker Circuit, Des is a perfect gentleman in all aspects and if he happens to come across this, i wish you well Sir.

Just finished reading my copy last week. I found it a good read and lots of info I never knew about well known players.

I thought it was good too, and i'm not a book reader, quite liked the 3 lines in there about me in the book ;)
and Des is a lovely guy, and absolute gentleman

have read the book thought it was not bad, met des at a game down in west cornwall run by colin who i think he is good friends with and he seems a nice guy

I use to live in Cornwall (now in Philippines), and from Jan-Aug 2006 i think i am right in saying i played in EVERY tournament run by Colin/Heather, i also ran the tournaments for a 2 week period whilst they were on holiday. (i miss the whole set up very much).

Des was good enough to invite the 3 of us to dinner when he had Liam Flood staying with him, and afterwards back to his house for a £10 freezout, winner takes all. A game i won taking out the Gentleman Liam on the way, my AK got lucky against his 77.

I believe i may have seen your website as i think Colin has a link to it on his site.

Yes good luck to you on that, and continuing success with your own tournaments, if i had still been there i would have definately come and played.

I still chat to Colin regulary on ladbrokes, and will be sponsering one or two tournaments this year.

Did the devilfish and des not have a big fallin out over this book?

To be honest i dont think the book would of sold as much if the devilfish's name wast the main headliner!

I read that devilfish wasnt to pleased with the way he was portrayed in the book. As for fallling out, i dont know, it's NOT something Des ever mentioned.

What i will say is that the work Des puts in for his books, eg time, research etc is second to none, he is a very diligent hard working guy.

No, Mr Ulliott was not best pleased with the book, he takes exception to even the slightest criticism about him, even if it's surrounded by heaps of praise for his undoubted poker skills.

When Des - who is, of course, a perfectly wonderful Gentleman - was researching for "Swimming with the Devlfish" he asked me to spend a little time with him, to give him "any nice stories about Devilfish". A tall order, that, so I studiously avoided Des for fully 2 years, & Des kept chasing me!

Devilfish regularly berates me for any negative comments made about him on blonde, or by blonde colleagues of mine. He earholed me big time at Rob Yong's Broxtowe Arms party because of some perfectly reasonable , not at all critical, comments El Blondie had made about him in a poker magazine. Meanwhile, El Blondie was stood two paces to our right. "Why dont you ask him yourself?" I asked..... "He's your partner, you tell him" he replied. A strange man indeed. Great player, mind.

That el blonde comment wasnt in Inside Edge was it???

I use to really like the devilfish and no doubt he is a superb player but the poker boom has gone completley to his head!

When hes at a table he thinks no1 else has the right to win a pot and when he busts out he just cries about how bad other people plays

It was very early in the tournament and three of the 4s were on the board, but i did manage to take quite a few of his chips.

I don't recall, feel free to quote away. I do know it was naff all to do with me, but it was me that got the ear-holing.

It the most petty thing ever:-

elblondie- "Right now, I'm making ten or 12 final tables, and i dont think im playing my best game. I'm the most overrated player in the UK. If there are two players in the UK that are vastly overrated it's me and the Devilfish" he remarks.

Then the journo makes a little comment saying "He's at least half wrong there".

I think thats it anyway. Pathetic!

Book reviews are difficult for me due to time constraints and the fact that I'm not reading as many as I used to.

I have read the book, but it was a while back now and I fear I it needs to fresh in my mind to come up with a decent account.

Therefore, if anyone fancies writing a review for this, or any other for that matter, book on poker, then please let me know as I genuinely wish to build up this section.

i am hoping to set up a small site in the next couple of months, purely run by myself, to aid beginner players with reviews of poker books and poker sites. And links to poker shops and hotels around the major venues. So maybe i will be able to copy my reviews over to blonde. Am hoping to open affiliate links with the poker sites to keep the site up and running. As i have learnt thru my research its not that cheap to maintain a site!!!

That's the piece. It was totally self-deprecating by El Blondie, almost poking fun at himself, & Mr Ulliott got completely whooshed in my opinion. I said "tell Mr Colclough yourself", he said "he's your Partner, you tell him". At which point I made my exit. Peeps think that because they are better poker players than someone it makes them better people, which is of course utter nonsense.

Not quite, i think you will find that he referred to you as like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. (it is said in a complimentary way)

The stuff on the Devilfish is pretty good, but it really picks up half way when he starts looking at lots of other players. He does this really well, makes a really good read.

My thoughts entirely. The non-Devilfish parts of the book are quite interesting I thoight.
