Post by: Nem on June 29, 2006, 02:55:44 PM
Such a shame, but he is useless on grass.

Give him a year or two and he'll be contending for major grass tournies, until then take advantage of the fact that he's a god on clay and the great odds you can get on him on clay. And lay him on grass.

So the bet I made on Nadal to win at 1.29 wasn't value?  Got out for a small loss earlier on but wish I'd have waited now :(

Yeah he's not great on grass but he is playing a virtual nobody and even Nadal should be better than this guy, nevertheless, he is playing well and deserves his 2-1 lead.

I'm not sure Nadal will ever get better on grass. He reminds me of Lendl - great at tennis, useless on grass.

Didn't think so. He was World #1 for years and won everything but was proper rubbish on grass.

Lendl only finished runner up twice, in 1986 and 1987

To Becker and Cash, straight sets both times.

Nadal is class.  Even though he isn't a grass court player, I would still back him

had you have done at the beginning, you'd have been a bit nervous 20 mins ago :D

Should win now though.

It's a little harsh writing off a nineteen year-old player as "useless on grass".

A surface that he has only played a dozen matches on and seems sure to improve.

And if Lendl was rubbish because he lost two Wimbledon finals, does that mean that Rosewall was rubbish too ?

The guy was an amazing player but just couldn't play too well on grass. Sampras was poor on clay in a similar vein.

It doesn't make them bad players, just poor on a certain surface.

Remember Marcelo Rios.  He was great on clay, but hated grass.  He said " Grass is for Cows ".   I read on his website that he may be making a comeback.  I always liked Rios.

It has a roof down half of the court that can be used as part of the game... never played it. I saw it on sky once and there is a club (the only one i've ever see) in Newcastle

cant be that popular a game, it hasnt been on sky since!

He still reached a Paris semi final

I saw real tennis on Sky once too - crazy looking game.  Not quite as posh as I imagined - for some reason I expected a really nice court, like a small version of Centre Court at Wimbledon that they used but it was still pretty wierd.

Such a shame, but he is useless on grass.

He is not looking useless today, and the more games he plays on grass the better he will adapt.

If Agassi wins this 1st set, LUMP IT ON Nadal to win the match.

Lendl reached two Wimbledon finals on grass. Everyone still knows he wasn't that good on it. (Compared to other surfaces)

Nadal said HIMSELF this week that on any other surface he'd be playing some his best tennis yet but as it is grass he has to work very hard.

I think Nadal knows more about his game than us.

So according to that logic, the best person to ask whether you are a good poker player is.....you.
