Title: Another (near) bubble question Post by: Claw75 on July 02, 2006, 01:35:03 PM Last night's $5k gtd on Blonde. There are 29/171 left, 27 get paid. Blinds 400/800 Average chips 11k or so - I've got 7k ish, having been early chip leader and taken a bit of a battering. There are a handful of players left in with only 1-2k. I pick up As Ks on the button. One player in front of me has got me just covered and goes all in - call or fold?

Its a call for me. 2 seats to my right, folded round to him. No - no prior similar action on which to make a judgement. Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: this.life.my.cage on July 02, 2006, 08:35:12 PM if im happy to just make the £ id probably fold
but if i want a higher placed finish id need to call. Your AK wont be in terribe shape here, in fact you might be dominating his hand Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: lazaroonie on July 02, 2006, 09:55:23 PM interesting....
online I am calling the all-in here every day of the week live, well, thats a bit more tricky. Its probably a tougher call, but one I will make most of the time. getting back to the specifics of the hand, - what does your opponent have ? I would think it strange play if he had AA or KK, so your chances of being any worse that about 50/50 are quite low. On the other hand, the chances of you dominating are reasonable against any other big ace. so for me the long term profitable move here is to call the all in. It changes a bit live , I would take more time and try to give the old lazaroonie treatment of staring/intimidation/blowing smoke in their face :) to try and get some more information. Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: bhoywonder on July 02, 2006, 10:08:37 PM like i said earlier u were guaranteed a place by sitting out probably
but that aint what u wanted...so a call was justified Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: Claw75 on July 03, 2006, 05:27:53 PM thanks for your replies. I asked because usually I'd pass AK in this situation (would probably usually call here with AA, KK and QQ). I have often wondered afterwards when I've passed AK in similar circumstances what would have happened if I called, and thought I'd give it a shot this time.
I'm just wondering long term if it would be a good move to routinely call in these situations, or stay tight as I have before. As Bhoywonder pointed out, I wasn't aiming for 27th, I was aiming for 1st. However, should I have taken a guaranteed cash before making such calls? Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: Royal Flush on July 03, 2006, 11:27:13 PM Easy call for me, i would be shocked if he didnt have AQ or a baby pair.
Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: GlasgowBandit on July 03, 2006, 11:39:04 PM I'm calling with this a 100% of the times.
At this stage of the tourney I reckon he oculd play and A like this, I notice this quite a lot on Blonde and the Tribecca network that you get some nutters who will stick it all in with any A near the bubble or when blinds are big enough to steal. But on this occasion he had TT or somethinga nd you never got any help? Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: thetank on July 03, 2006, 11:55:26 PM All the people who'd pass are too afraid to say. :D
Gotta play for the final table though. I'm reluctantly calling with this oft over-rated hand. Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: Eck on July 04, 2006, 10:18:54 AM So how did it all go wrong then? when I dropped in you were going great then checked back and you had bubbled.
i will guess at 7h 7s you called hit but 7c on the river. What a stupid guess i bet (really should lay off the gin at work!!) Title: Re: Another (near) bubble question Post by: Claw75 on July 04, 2006, 11:43:10 AM thanks again. The outcome is irrelevant really to the play, but as some of you have asked....
He had JJ. I flopped a king, and he rivered a J. |
