Title: MLB Post by: The_Patriot on July 04, 2006, 12:12:07 AM Anyone on the forum a lover of this beautiful game? I spend 3-4 month's of my year in Boston and I am passionate Red Sox fan, attending 30-40 games yearly, just wondered if anyone else adored the game, have never seen it mentioned on here.
Title: Re: MLB Post by: Graham C on July 04, 2006, 12:13:44 AM Not overly. I've been to see Tampa v NY when I was on holiday in Florida. Quite enjoyed it live but not really something I could get into.
Title: Re: MLB Post by: TightEnd on July 04, 2006, 12:16:15 AM I'm a big fan, though the NFL is number 1 for me
I became a big White Sox fan when I was in Chicago in the mid 1990s and saw the slugger Frank Thomas. Boy could he hit in his prime! Last year I was in White Sox heaven I don't particularly like the different salary capabilites of the various franchises and to my mind the NFL is more genuinely competitive Still a great game though. Love the Ch5 coverage with Mr Gould though! Title: Re: MLB Post by: The_Patriot on July 04, 2006, 12:26:46 AM Hey Tight great to know someone else shares the same passion. I adore the game and alike %99 of MA, I am very passionate about the Red Sox, its an extremely difficult game to play and does not get the recognition it deserves over here. Coverage is so poor, it's sick, when I am in Boston, never miss a game on NESN. Just got back from Boston 2 week ago having spent 3 months there, missing the action already and totally in agreement with the salaries, some of it is frightening. It really is. Hopefully we can set up a weekly thread maybe if anyone else interested, set predictions etc. Would be fun. Marty.
Title: Re: MLB Post by: brad.strider on July 04, 2006, 12:27:43 AM i went to see the yankees play the twins in the bronx about 15 years ago, couldnt believe the players waiting for adverts on tv to end b4 play restarted after every change in batting team/ the game went into extra innings, it lasted four and a half hours, yankees won, i kind of enjoyed it!
Title: Re: MLB Post by: TightEnd on July 04, 2006, 12:31:12 AM Is it sport? well then I am interested!
We do a weekly NFL punting column with renowned sports bettors like The camel and bobby1 and Mike Langley on here as well as enthusiastic amateurs like me starting in Sept (well, we did last season anyway!) MLB? why not...post away anytime you have something I think it is an extremely complicated game...the tactical nuances are frightening and typically American...after all in essence its rounders! Title: Re: MLB Post by: Tinsel Town on July 04, 2006, 12:35:27 AM Great fan myself Patriot.
Have seen the Yankees and the Mets on my last two visits to NY. Nasn is a must for all baseball fans and North american sport in generaol. I'm also a great Hockey fan. Saw the Devils play the Rangers in April. One of the best sporting occasions i've been to. Great entertainment. I agree with tighty though the NFL is my first love. Always liked Tampa especially John Lynch when he was there. Td Th Title: Re: MLB Post by: TightEnd on July 04, 2006, 12:37:53 AM I am plannnig a trip this november
Vegas....Dallas (my team since 1985) for NFL on Thanksgiving, Houston at the weekend for more NFL, back to Vegas...home skint or trip paid for!! Title: Re: MLB Post by: The_Patriot on July 04, 2006, 12:41:16 AM I lived in Dallas last year for 7 months. Its a beautiful place. I enjoy the NFL, but not a lover of it. Football is my main passion with baseball coming a close second. Great to see lots of people with interest. Hopefully we can set something up over the next couple of weeks. Mart.
Title: Re: MLB Post by: Tinsel Town on July 04, 2006, 12:43:42 AM Wow.
Sounds like a great trip. I've never managed to get to the US at the same time as the NFL season. I'm going to Vegas at the beginning of November though. I plan to sit in some sports bar on the Sunday and just watch game after game after game. Its got to be better than watching the claymores lol Good luck with your trip Td Th Title: Re: MLB Post by: matt674 on July 04, 2006, 07:25:21 AM Big fan of most North American sport with the exception of basketball. When we were younger our family lived in Saudi Arabia and the village where we lived had no english speaking tv. Fortunately about 30 minutes drive away was a big American base where they made aircraft engines and so we used to go there a lot of the time and used to watch a lot of their tv (thankfully mainly sport as the rest of it was drivel!!)
There are a few of us on the site apart from those who've already posted - when Johnny Gould joined the forum a few dared come out of the woodwork!! I know scottm and gamblor21 are also fans. I used to have NASN on sky so i could watch all the live baseball during the summer and hockey during the winter but just recently they were bought out by Satanta sports so now you have to buy the whole 6 channels from Setanta at double the price which is too expensive considering i wouldnt watch the other 5 channels. I'm a giants fan and am quite surprised to see us doing ok this year, had hoped that Barry Bonds would finally leave so as to free up some salery so we can start rebuilding our team. He spent most of last year either injured or being pitched around which is hardly going to win you games - but who knows, this year we might make the post season again :) Title: Re: MLB Post by: Tinsel Town on July 04, 2006, 07:42:22 AM Big fan of most North American sport with the exception of basketball. I believe this is good value. I get full NASN (Baseball,Hockey, Nascar and Basketball) and the other channels. I understand you might not watch the SPL but they have the French, German, Italian and the Dutch Leagues every week. You can also see alot of Rugby too if that's your thing. All in all, I believe Setanta is good value to a sports fan. Td Th Title: Re: MLB Post by: scottm on July 04, 2006, 08:43:06 AM :hello:
I thought it was just me and the Monkey Boy who were baseball fans on here :D I love the game, unfortunately though, I'm a Mariners fan ( no laughing !). Been a fan since the CH4 coverage of the World Series way back in the 80s,but I've got to agree with Tighty about the Ch5 coverage with Mr. Gould - its brilliant, pity its only on 2 nights though :( Going to the Florida in November, so i'll be too late for the baseball season but i'm just going to enjoy the NFL on Thanksgiving weekend just like u Tinsel Town - in a bar with a nice cold beer !! Title: Re: MLB Post by: Acidmouse on July 04, 2006, 08:45:37 AM I am a massive Giants and Barry Bonds fan. My wifes from the Bay area and when we lived there we went weekly to see Barry smash um into the water. Broke my heart losing the world series a few years back though :(
Title: Re: MLB Post by: Nem on July 04, 2006, 09:03:49 AM I'm a 49er. I haven't played or watched Baseball before, I might go and see the Yankees later this summer or the next.
Title: Re: MLB Post by: smithy69 on July 04, 2006, 09:55:16 AM I'm a hugeeeee fan of all north american sports.
Chicago are my NFL team, and I honestly believe they will go far this year if they can improve their offense. Their defence is immense but their attack pretty weak. Up the Bears!!!! I dont have a Baseball team to be honest, and seem to lose money hand over fist on this sport as 1 team will win 10-0 one night, then the following night the same team will lose 10-0 to exactly the same team they beat the night before. Crazy As for Basketball I make a decent wedge on Betfair by people jumping in at stupid odds on teams that are say 10 points up in the 1st quarter. Have seen teams backed down to 1.1 in the 1st quarter which is crazyy. Im a big Suns fan and Nash is awesome. That was the price they quoted me but to be honest i was getting the NASN channel for £7.50. To be honest i dont watch the SPL or any of the other leagues they show, i dont watch rugby either so basically i'm paying and extra £6.50 for 5 channels i will never see - i've spoken to both NASN and Setanta sports (twice) but they wouldn't do anything about letting me just subscribe to NASN so i cancelled the contract. Pity because it was unbeatable for American sport apart from the NFL but thats on Sky for free, still get to see the occasional game for free on their freeview though :) Maybe if the Coyotes make the stanley cup finals or Giants to the world series i might resubscribe - but then there's probably more chance of me winning the WSOP main event!! :D Title: Re: MLB Post by: marcro on July 04, 2006, 11:29:14 AM I lived in Chicago during the time Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire were dueling for the home run record which made me a Cubs fan. Michael Jordan was also in his prime at that time which made me a Bulls fain. It was a great place to be based if you were a sports fan. Oh yeah, since I lived there I defaulted to a Bears fan too. Never got into ice hockey so the Blackhawks were left out in the cold.
Title: Re: MLB Post by: Scottish Dave on July 04, 2006, 05:26:43 PM I love Baseball, i subscribe to 'NASN' - 'North American Sports Network' on Sky Digital, Plus i have a rolling yearly subscription to MLB.tv to watch all the action all the time, this year they have introduced the Mosiac mode, where you can watch up to 6 live streaming games at once, Fekking Baseball heaven for me (especially when you have betfair open along side it for betting on), Poker and Baseball are my Girlfriends 2 biggest hates in life thanks to me lol
