Title: Star Trek on BBC 2
Post by: Sark79 on July 08, 2006, 03:17:46 PM
They have started showing both the Original Star Trek and The Next Generation on BBC2.  On just now is the first episode with Captain Pike in it. After that the first Next Generation episode is on " Encounter at Far-point".

If you are a dweeb and geek like me, this is great  :D

Not sure mate, my remote has no batteries so I can't check ceefax.  I would guess that it is around 4pm.  With the final Dr Who tonight, this is a great day for a geek  :D

Lordy, you will be shocked how dated "Encounter" is, especially if you've not seen it in a while.

Good to see they are showing "The Cage" before the official series, coincindentally, Sci-Fi showed the 2 parter "The menagerie", which used most of the footage of the pilot they never showed.

"Peace and long life..."

I was surprised by the results of a poll a few years ago.  A bunch of Star Trek fanatics voted on their favorite Captain in the Radio Times, Captain Janeway came out as the favorite.  I liked Pickard the best. He was a good Captain.

Ah, DS9, did you prefer the easy going, paunchy Sisko with hair, or the trimmer, meanner, bearded Sisko near the end, especially in "Way of the warrior" ?

Best thing about Janeway was how you could quickly gauged how screwed Voyager was by how messed-up her hair was, lol.

Out of the Captains, I thought only Patrick Stewart could act.  Archer, Kirk and Janeway were not the best at acting. But out of everyone on Star Trek, either Scotty or Lieutenant Reed were the worst actors.

Yes, Picard was definately the best captain IMO

I actually liked DS9 far better than the others. I suppose I liked the fact that the fact that the characters weren't constantly on the move - so we got to know a lot about the characters and the situation they were in. Patrick is, of course, a great actor, but I also really liked what Avery Brooks did with the Sisko character, I think he was very underrated.

Didn't have any time for Voyager at all.

Have to agree, DS9 was one of my fave's, they was a lack of moralising at end of each episode, and the whole "Dominion" war was brillant, and of course the classic episode were the "Defiant" ends up back in the original series episode "The trouble with Tribbles"

If you like DS9, you should watch the new version of Battlestar Galactica, it's fantastic and made by the same two guys.

Watching Farpoint earlier, I couldn't help but think that Q is similar in appearance to Phil Hellmuth
