Allowing Sol to announce his own departure for "a new challenge".

Pure class.  ;tightend;

Pure class.  ;tightend;
so he can get a huge wage bill off a shrinking wage kitty?

I believe you are missing the point here Brad.

And you don't really think that Arsenal have a shrinking wage budget having almost trebled gate receipts do you ?

I dont think its shrinking but i wouldnt expect it to be growing quickly in the near future... you have to pay for it yet!

That is a huge lump of the wage bill for a bit part player though...

People seem to be overlooking the fact that Highbury is being redeveloped into luxury apartments.

That will cover the lion's share of the new stadium.

Arsenal's finances have never looked better, although getting into the Champion's League proper would help.

Surely that'll be a few years away too thou.

I've been passed the new stadium a couple of times... I think i might have to be working in London for the Friday of our game down there, looks pretty impressive

Noticed on a few Celtic fan forums that some fellop Hoopsters are wanting Sol to sign for Celtic.

I think this would be a db move for the club I don't rate Campell I think his best days are behind him.  What do the Gunners on board think of this?

I agree GB, Sol is no longer a fixture in Arsenal's first team, in fact not even a starter for me.

Still a decent player though, although the "personal" problems would be a worry if I were hiring.

Sol may not be a world class defender anymore, but if he was to move to Celtic, he would be the best defender in the league by a long way.

But he isn't going to play for Celtic, as he is too good for them.

Plus he'd probably rather play football than start training for the mixed martial arts event that is a scottish football game.

I agree with the comments above Bandit. I've a better chance of playing for Celtic than Sol Campbell  8)

However, I must ask why Celtic would want to sign an English player anyway. The English players that play
in the EPL have got lucky in terms of the wages they now command. The World cup proved that they have maybe
two players ( Gerard and Lampard) that are genuinely world class. The EPL is only watchable for the flair brought to it
by the foreign player ..Crespo,Henry,Robben,Duff, Ronaldo, Garcia etc etc. The English players have managed to command
the higher wages but they represent no value for money at all. The rest of the world know this. That's why there
are very few English players playing abroad. Even the traditional English midfield ball winner is being replaced by the foreigners  Makalele, Fabregas,Alonso etc etc. I listened to Five Live last night and this was being discussed. They said that
most of the England U21 team are with Championship teams( I've said before that this league is the most watchable in
Europe. It is traditional English football at its best. Btw I do not believe there is anything wrong with traditional English football. It's style terrorised Europe for two whole decades and won one World Cup). English football is in danger. I do not mean the top league but the production of English players. Arsenal played a European tie with no Englishmen at all and I beleive Chelsea have done it as well. For a nation with 50M inhabitants this is worrying.
This world cup was supposed to be Englands best chance to win . They did not perform. I do not see the players coming through to improve their chances next time either.

Which world cup did you watch!!!!!

Also the 'traditional english game' can't be used at european or world level... the referee's and the authorities see to that - the game has changed.

Yes. Unfortunately it has ,but the players in general haven't. Therefore I cannot see how England can compete
at international level in the near future. Skybet has them as favourites for Euro 2008. I find this remarkable.
As regards Gerard and Lampard I agree .I was perhaps thinking of their domestic/european performances.
I'll correct my statement to 'England have no genuine world class players' . They have a decent 1-11 but after
that players such as Campbell, Lennon, Carrick,Defoe and Downing are of very limited ability.

Anyway, I hope the English style does make a comeback. I'm not convinced of its ineffectiveness yet.

English fans wouldnt put up with a game where a good tackle is basically outlawed, so the fa cant make the referees stricker, so we lose touch with the standard abroad, and so suffer in everything above domestic football - basically its all our fault!

English football is on the rise IMO.

Last two Champions League finals - two English clubs. Last Uefa Cup final - another English club.

Richest league in world football. Most viewed league in world football.

A few years ago La Liga was undoubtedly no1, but no longer.

No if only the national team had a decent manager....!

Yada yada yada!

What exactly have Spurs won in the past 10 years? And as for your Reserves what have they won?

I agree. The English league is very strong.
However to the detriment of the national team I feel.
Too many foreign players

3 years ago i would be dying at the moment, but now i find it quite funny! Might make supporting Juve more fun! We are hardly likely to lose a game!

Apparently Fifa have ruled that if Juve, Milan etc go down it would only be fair to the labour issues of the players that they get the choice to stay or leave. So if they go down, they're fooked.

(And Liverpool get Camronesi!)

I would have been over the moon about that a season ago but Lehmann has surprised me this season, I thought he was rubbish but it turns out he's pretty damn good.  Still Buffon would be an excellent signing for any team.
