Title: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Rugrat on July 18, 2006, 08:29:35 AM All details are now finalised. It's an interesting format which will be fun and with an estimated prize pool of over $10000 with only 50 runners it could be profitable too ... in addition Ladbrokes are adding value with further prizes. I'm looking to fill places asap and I'd be delighted to send full details if you send me a personal messsage with your email details ... cheers!

Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: mikkyT on July 18, 2006, 11:11:43 AM Nevermind, I just saw an earlier post of yours, seems its not spam ;) Appologies in the post.
Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: ACE2M on July 18, 2006, 02:44:12 PM are any blondes going to this?
I have poker buddies and golf buddies but unfortunately nobody else who mixes in both. Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Rugrat on July 18, 2006, 03:23:50 PM Yes ... when I first posted the idea about 5 or 6 weeks ago I got several replies of interest from "well established" blondes ... but they have all gone into one list some I'm unsure who is who ... I very much doubt there will be big groups of people anyway and it will be mixed up too
Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: matt674 on July 18, 2006, 03:26:28 PM Having only just taken up the game (golf that is not poker) i think i will wait until next years event before trying my luck. Even though i am hitting the best form of my life having just gone round mytton fold in a double digit score (99! :D) i think having only played 10-12 complete rounds i'll stick to just the poker competitions for now ;)
Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Rugrat on July 18, 2006, 03:38:02 PM 99 off of 24 would get you 30 + points ... more than enough ... and I know there will be worse golfers than you there .... anyway if anyone wants to see more detail look in the news section at ***********... if I'm allowed to mention that :o
No links Rug, Sorry mate. Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: matt674 on July 18, 2006, 03:47:04 PM i dont have a handicap, let alone a handicap certificate!!
I will stick to practicing for now and occasionally letting BigArmo beat me to keep his confidence high for playing poker....... Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Sark79 on July 18, 2006, 03:51:52 PM Is Golf hard to play? I like watching it on TV, but have never played. My Uncle was a semi-pro for a while, but he now plays old person golf instead. How do you get started? is it just a case of turning up at a golf course or do you have to pass safety exams? flying golf balls can be dangerous :D

But as in snooker, one good shot keeps you hungry for more. Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: M3boy on July 18, 2006, 03:57:56 PM Is golf hard to play?!?!?? rotflmfao rotflmfao rotflmfao rotflmfao
No, its F@*@*@g hard!!!! lol I have recieved email details, but my main concern is the fact that the poker will be a self deal affair. Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: matt674 on July 18, 2006, 04:05:06 PM i only started playing because once i discovered poker i stopped all other forms of sports betting apart from on the US tour golf events. I decided i needed another hobby as online poker was taking up too much of my life and so bought a set of clubs and headed off to the driving range for some instructional tutoring. Spent most of the winter on the driving range but there's no substitute for playing on the course itself so this summer i've started venturing on to the course.
Its good fun but like other people have said it does get extremely infuriating, i'm trying to use my techniques of staying calm at the poker table out on the golf course but havent quite managed it completely yet!! :D Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: ACE2M on July 18, 2006, 04:16:57 PM i only started playing because once i discovered poker i stopped all other forms of sports betting apart from on the US tour golf events. You will be glad to know the monkey was found safe and well Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Sark79 on July 18, 2006, 04:20:11 PM Wrong monkey story. The Squirrel monkey, I was reffering to. Sad story this morning
Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Rugrat on July 18, 2006, 04:23:03 PM No handiscap certificate required although capped at 36 points without one (I wish 8) As for self deal I am working on getting dealers but didn't want to whack on a rake and supress response ... still loads of value and I am working on the dealer thing ... honest :)up :)up
Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: matt674 on July 18, 2006, 04:23:28 PM Yes, usually one "pearler" every couple of holes. Its the other 7 shots that let it down!! :D
If i can keep the drive straight that is usually my best shot - and BigArmo can back me up on that. But then he keeps telling me "Driving for show, putting for dough". Working on my iron play at the minute and working on a shortened backswing, the power and distance is there but the accuracy is off. With a shortened backswing i'm losing a bit on the distance but connecting much better means i'm improving my accuracy. We'll keep practicing and we'll be in the pgatour by 2010!! :) Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Sark79 on July 18, 2006, 04:30:09 PM I guess it is like one of those sports like snooker. It looks easy from a distance, but after actually trying it. It is seriously hard.

Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: mikkyT on July 18, 2006, 04:44:09 PM When I actually hit the ball I can get it to roll roughly half way down the fairway of a par 3, does that count?
Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Sark79 on July 18, 2006, 04:54:55 PM If a player has a handicap of 5 at one particular golf course, can he then go to another golf course and tell people he has a handicap of 5? or does it only count for his regualr course?
Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: ACE2M on July 18, 2006, 04:55:49 PM If a player has a handicap of 5 at one particular golf course, can he then go to another golf course and tell people he has a handicap of 5? or does it only count for his regualr course? everywhere, your handicap is the same. Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: Sark79 on July 18, 2006, 05:13:06 PM If a player has a handicap of 5 at one particular golf course, can he then go to another golf course and tell people he has a handicap of 5? or does it only count for his regualr course? everywhere, your handicap is the same. So a player could play the same golf course day after day for years. He would get a handicap of 0 and then be able to walk smugly into the clubhouse of another course and brag about his skill? My local golf club http://www.loudoungowfclub.co.uk/ is basically a field. I know nothing about golf, but to me it looks like a course Tiger Woods could master in an afternoon while he had a bad hangover. I haven't got a certificate. Title: Re: Golf and Poker Tournament Post by: doubleup on July 18, 2006, 07:50:10 PM So a player could play the same golf course day after day for years. He would get a handicap of 0 Err golf isn't like a quiz game where you can learn all the answers by playing the game often enough. You won't get to a low handicap without being a good player. Some courses are a lot more difficult than others but the difference is more at the high handicapper level than the low - to go round any golf course in level par requires a great deal of skill. |
