Title: National Railway Museum York - Any tips for the day out?
Post by: Acidmouse on July 18, 2006, 02:33:57 PM
Me being a great considerate teacher I have decided to take my class (well all 5 of them) to the National Railway Museum in York tomorrow. I have never actually been to the museum before and wondered if anyone has got pearls of wisdom from their experiences, tips on what to see, places to eat, it etc etc..

Feedback welcome

Its a great place and i don't like trains. Lots to see and do and very interactive.(will take a whille to get round) I also like the other place, its Dinosaurs and Stuff found around york, lots of Viking stuff which i loved, and Roman finds, again i rember it to be massive.

You'd think with a title like that he would be the first to visit

I'm sure he read it just after it was posted - he's still drafting his detailed response!

The Museum is now free to get in and well worth a visit, things to think about is the cafe inside is very expensive and what’s worse very little on the menu for kids, so best plan to eat before you go in or when you come out, if you get there early you can park the car in the car park then get a mini train into York centre for dinner if you wish, its not expensive to do that, and you have gotta visit the Minster! if you havent been before. You can spend all day in there as it is, and lots to keep the kids interested depending how old they are.

I remember going as a kid, I recall I thought it was great, but not as good as seeing Dick Turpin's cell in the nearby prison.

York is a delightful place, full of history, Vikings, Romans the lot. The cobbled streets, the ouse and the Minster, don't miss the rose window. I have only been to York a couple of times but I like it and there is so much in which to immerse yourself

Jeez this was fun day, bit hot but very fun day.

The actual museum is massive, lots of trains from the past, station memorabilia, interactive & educational events :) but lodger was right the food was very expensive so we took our own. I recommend it to anyone.
