Title: Europe's best player Post by: Wadadli on July 24, 2006, 04:23:25 PM So the WSOP is 80 % complete and British and European success has been very limited , in fact awful. The Hendonites , bad beatites, general usual names and blonde sycophants have all failed to get close to any bracelets and have been thumped by the yanks , aussies etc. WITH ONE EXCEPTION
John Gale gets the bracelet he should have got last year to go with his WPT title , He is clearly Britains and perhaps Europe's best player and is amazingly never recognised as such. No doubt at the end of this year when the judges in helsinki submit their candidates for Europe's best , it will be the usual list of sycophants and Gale's name will be absent. What a farce !!! Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Colchester Kev on July 24, 2006, 04:25:34 PM you wouldnt happen to be a troll looking to stir things up would you ?
Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Wadadli on July 24, 2006, 04:30:09 PM Kev
What part of that statement isnt true ? Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: matt674 on July 24, 2006, 04:32:30 PM So how much are you charging us to become a member of your John Gale fan club?
Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Colchester Kev on July 24, 2006, 04:33:16 PM maybe the choice of phrase "blonde sycophants" gives reason to think you may be just trying to cause problems ... However now that you have joined ...welcome by the way... does that now make you a "blonde sycophant" ??
Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Rod Paradise on July 24, 2006, 04:35:10 PM Kev What part of that statement isnt true ? Some justification of the "blonde sycophants" comment may be needed before any real attention given to the point of your post. Also a post pre-WSOP saying "John Gale will have the best record of all European players" would have maybe given you the right to chirp more...... Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: The Truth on July 24, 2006, 04:36:17 PM I thought that Pab's 6th for $82k was a cracking result for a 21 year-old in his first Vegas adventure. There are still thousands of hands still to be played - maybe a Brit will win the biggie. Have to say John Gale's results are very impressive, I am however not anywhere near qualified enough to say whether one player 'is any better' than any other.

Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Karabiner on July 24, 2006, 04:42:39 PM I would like to know what %age of the fields are British and European.
I would also like to know what %age of prize money was won by British and European players. I would then be able to tell OP whether British and European players have over or under-performed. Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Wadadli on July 24, 2006, 04:44:27 PM I am a blondite and a big fan of this site and forum. With hindsight ,my mention of Blonde sycophants was unfair and I retract it but not trhose other over hyped groups.

Or do you only criticise people 'behind their backs', so to speak? Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: bolt pp on July 24, 2006, 05:45:09 PM I wonder how many of columbos arrests resulted in conviction?
I always think after watching a culombo, "thats never gonna hold up in court" but you never get to see the court case! still, in comparison to Frost or Taggart he's pretty much the business. Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Karabiner on July 24, 2006, 05:56:45 PM Okay I just had a rough count up and it seems that we have one Brit., one Swede and one Italian winner.
So far there have been about 30 events. Do GB&E have more or less than 10% of the field ? Does anyone else really care ? ::) Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: Sark79 on July 24, 2006, 06:15:58 PM I think this is a wind up merchant at work . Own up, who are you really? . Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: byronkincaid on July 24, 2006, 06:27:01 PM well dur, everyone knows american teenagers are the best at poker. a few of them hit 21 this year and have pretty much won everything so far. In a couple of years time whole final tables will be made up of kids just out of thier diapers.
I did a quick google to check that I'd spelt diapers correctly and OMG WTF this site was almost at the top of the page. I've got a funny feeling that Colchester Kev could be into this sort of stuff. http://www.dpf.com/ (http://www.dpf.com/) Title: Re: Europe's best player Post by: bolt pp on July 24, 2006, 06:39:31 PM LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

After coming back from Vegas a little bit disillusioned with poker I've been giving stuff like this some thought. There are countless players swanning round the Rio with their names plastered all over themselves like some sort of quasi sports stars due to a sponsorship deal with some obscure poker site or another. Frankly I have only heard of about 50% of the sponsored players and respect the play of maybe 10% of those I recognise. There is alot of conjenture over who is/isn't the best player in the world, Europe or whereever. The truth of the matter is that there is virtually nothing to choose between the best 50 players in Britain. The difference in their results is purely down to variance. Peter Costa is an excellent player. For about a year he was unbeatable. Everyone was saying he was Europe's best player. But for the last two years he has hardly won a thing. Is he a bad player now? No of course he isn't. He was just running particularly well two years ago and now he is running very badly. And that is the case with John Gale now. He is not "the best player in Europe". He is just running very hot. Winning more than his share of 50:50's and having his big hands hold up. It will change. But when it does, he won't be a bad player. One thing I'm sure won't change. John Gale is a gentleman who handles defeat and victory in a dignified manner. I wish I could say the same about the prima donna's wearing all the sponsors gear strutting about like peacocks at the Rio who blame anybody except themselves when they get knocked out of a comp. But the blondes have done us proud, we have a blondeite Bracelet winner already, in John Gale, (to add to last years blonde Bracelet Winners, Brian Wilson & Willie Tann) & several blondes have run close - Stu Fox, Pab, Nick Gibson, Roland de Wolfe have all Finalled, & many many more have cashed. No complaints from me about how the Brits or the blondes have done, none at all. And Jen & snoops produced, for blonde, EASILY the best Updates from Vegas, bar none.
