All those who think Newcastle will come any where, especially above the mighty Spurs - read on.

Glen Roeder is their manager. (1st full season in charge at West Ham, he took them from 7th place the previous season to relegation). ;applause; deja vu, siv vu plai!

Alain Boumsong and Titus Bramble are their central defence. rotflmfao

Alan Shearer has retired

Michael Owen is out untill Xmas - at least!!!

Now, for the mighty Tottenham Hotspur

We have bought Berbatov and Zokora (£20million+)

Michael Carrick is staying

Keane, Defoe and Berbatov will be Spurs Strike force next season. Newcastle's will be - Chorpa, Ameobi and err...

Spurs have Ledley King and Michael Dawson at the back - both England Internationals. Newcastle have Boumsong and Bramble rotflmfao

You have a real axe to grind over Roeder! You can only judge him on what he does at Newcastle, not what he did a club like West Ham that had the traditional run of good fortune, lost their loved manager and sank back to their level....

Compare his record last year with Jol's over his time last year.....

Boumsong has started about one game since Roder took over and is our 4th choice so dont worry about seeing him if he stays. Bramble the season before last came on so much that the loss of him and Dyer in one game probably cost us the UEFA cup. Again last year when he came back from injury he had that disaster against Villa at SJP but he grew in confidence and fitness and him and Moore looked solid enough. Add to this Taylor who we managed to hang on to after more than interest from Man U & Liverpool and things are looking okay. As anyone who has watched Newcastle in recent times will tell you a lot of our problems stem from full backs who are eother too attacking or simply lack any sense of postioning...

Having said all this I am suprised at how many ppl put us in the top six. This time last week I was ready to call an end to the season, the weekend's result and the Duff signing has obviously lifted more than just us. The most encouraging thing is the sign of another striker being sought, and the news that Duff was only 5million. If we get an Asdon, Kuyt or even Defoe I think we will be up there. Blackburn will be weaker this year, and Tottenham will be rocked by Carrick leaving...

Cant wait for the new season!

Do you honestly think that Defoe would leave a big club like Spurs for Newcastle!

You're even more deluded than the average Celtic fan! ;)

1. Chelsea
2. Arsenal
3. Liverpool
4. Man U (unless they get a big striker, then they go above Liverpool)
5. Newcastle (because i'm bias, probably 6 or 7, depends on how long Europe rolls on for)
6. Tottenham

I think it is one of those that could go to either extreme... he will either somehow pull off a miricle and finish 7th or they'll hover in trouble - they need some signings! The ribbing I got over having a manger without qualification... I did like the appointment! ;D

Dan,

Spurs have more fans in Ireland, then Newcastle have fans around the world.

Big club - yes.

As big as Arse - no.

LOL LOL LOL- How many PEOPLE are left in Ireland after Celtic and Liverpool?! I really think you would trouble backing that statement up.

We have the whole of Peru...
We have the very recent legacy of Shearer,
We have the current crocked Owen,
We have had players from football areas like Columbia.

There is no doubt that while Tottenham have been big and had big players in the past, but, our football has only really been available to the world in the last decade - in that time we have without doubt been a more highly regarded team, in terms of coverage and in years gone back a great style of football.

(though I realise, or rather hope, that statement was largely for a reaction!)
