Title: The dream is over
Post by: jezza777 on August 04, 2006, 10:34:22 PM
My main event is over for another year.

With blinds at 800/1600 with a 200 ante I am in the BB with only 10,000 left . It is passed to the button who raises to 5k . Sb folds and I look down at A 10. The button seems a solid player but I don't think I have the luxuary of laying down A 10 to a button raise. We are only 100 ish from the money . can I fold and make it? Unlikley. I move in , it's only 4900 more for him to call. He thinks about it and I know i am ahead, I pray he has a7 , a9 or something. . He calls and tables 68s he hits the turn with a 6 and my wsop ends. He was getting 3.5/4-1 on the call but I thought his raise was poor given there are not many hands I can let go given my stack .

Still such is poker , I have played well and lernt a lot . My bets need to be better sized and turning up for the start of the tourney probably helps.

good luck to all Blondes and uk players left in.

thanks for everyones support , it means a lot.

jezza

Unlucky. How many chips did he have when calling you? I am guessing that the only reason for calling is that he could afford to.
Better luck next time.

I was thinking that!

Nice one mate, you did yourself proud! Not many players would have got that far with your start.

cheers all.

Tank you are spot on , if ever there was a situation for a stop and go that was it. No way he calls the all in on the flop. Ah well , live and learn.

We're all experts after the event. Not wanting to diss ya.

On plenty of occasions I've seen a big Ace, and lumped in my chips in the heat of the moment. It's easy to do.

In fact, that's maybe one of the principle reasons I wasn't playing in the main event myself this year. :)

It's hard to find someone who will fold any cards for 3-1 pre-flop. I tend to find they might fold on the flop between 20-30% of the time though. It's a strong move in that spot for blind defence, and maximizing your chances of tournament survival.

I find some weak players who even lay down a small pocket pair on the flop (when you bet your remaining chips, just a third of the pot.)

I know your not "dissing " me mate. I first thought that the way the situation played out was unavoideable and I did the best I could. I have used the stopand go technique many times and here , in the heat of battle , I didnt even think of it.
I am glad you pointed it out, it improves me as a player.
