take your laptop down the library and chain yourself to the desk - ensure the library has no wifi and you're away!!

I agree, the library is the way to go.

No distractions, you can hear the silence of the pages turning.

You get more shite done in one day at the library, than 3 or 4 days at home.

i think ill hit the library next monday. you guys are probably right about the amount of work i could get done. this week ill get all my references together so i wont feel guilty about my lack of progress.
acde, thats a cool trick. dictate all your dissertation as you go. is there a book on how to do it? :) thats impressive

did you use a balance scorecard as a strategy tool? im looking for a way to apply it to what im doing as is the only tool i can find where you dont just have to look at finance as a performance measure

I know about "balanced scorecards" mad if you want to get in touch

The best techniques for my study, of which there as a lot over 5 years of degree and doctorate...was to work for 90 minutes and then reward yourself with a 15 minute break...teaching your brain that hard work leads to rewards makes the time fly by and productivity rises

I also used to work much better away from a home environment...library etc, no distractions and the sense that you were actually travelling to "go to work".

for me working from home worked like a charm...then again I get kindoff in a zone when I am writing. (did for my doctorate thesis anyways)...it's all about mental preparedness. you have to get into a rythm of work...it's like playing poker...you could just sit down and lose your cash but it's better to prepare for it and win :)

I work from home a lot, I find I get a lot more done at home rather than in work, so I tend to schedule days when I need to bury my head in data. All I can suggest is that you plan, plan and plan again, and do stuff in small chunks so you can mark off sections easier - this makes you feel like you are getting more done and then you are empowered by that to carry on.

Looking at having to do the whole disseration is probably what is makign it difficult for you, by cuting it down into sections, you will make it an easier proposition.

Good Luck!
