Title: Richard Gryko legend !
Post by: Franchise on August 07, 2006, 08:56:50 PM
I would just like to say a big well done and congratulations to the legend that is Richard Gryko. Making the top 50 in this years WSOP main event is an incredible achievement from somebody who surely now has now been confirmed as Britains greatest player. I feel it is now only a matter of time until we see the great one with a bracelet round his wrist. So a big well done again Richard.

An excellent achievement and well done to him, but think you have slightly exaggerated his position in the British poker rankings.  :D

It's debatable yes but i think many would agree with me. I recently bumped into Devilfish and he predicted a big tournament for Gryko who he believes is currently Britains 2nd best player after himself of course.

He would say that.  :D
I am not knocking his ability as a player as he must have something to reach the top 50 as well as past results, but he hasn't won any major events in 2005 or 2006 (correct me if i am wrong) so was just trying to put in to perspective.
Again well done to him though.

To be honest, I don't really know enough about Gryko. Oh allright I have never heard of him, so can't really tell who is in his league.
But if you are asking who is the best British player at the moment i would go for Mickey Wernick and he has had a great twelve months including at least a couple of tournament wins.

Best tournament player, maybe. But best poker player - I don't think so.

Stuart Fox has to be in contension for top English player - only a matter of time before he wins a biggie.

2 cashes at this yrs WSOP , and over $1/4mill

Yes, Stuart Fox is getting the cake.  And a reasonable slice to Mr. Gryko - congratulations... although I was rather hoping for his mum's sake that he won the thing.  Such update-watchin avidity despite time difference wholly admirable.

Richard's Mum reads every line of every Update when Richard's playing, & keeps in touch with me from time to time by e-Mail, as does his Dad. They are SO proud of him, & I hoped he'd win it for their sake as much as anything.

For such a young man, he has some game there, all those itsy-bitsy half-pot Raises every hand, he's very tough to play against.

Having sat to the right of Richard at the poker table, I can confirm that he is a classy and very fearsome player. Perhaps the most intimidating style I've played against in live poker yet.

If I may be so bold as to add my two-pennyworth to the discussion, having been lucky enough to witness a couple of great young players who we are all proud to call "Fellow Blondeites".

I watched Rich Gryko dismantle a strong field which included Dave C, Marcel, Isabelle etc. in Vienna 18 months ago. He did it with style and class and only succumbed to Ursus Blumenthal (Swiss guy) after a nasty outdraw when heads up in the final. His aggressive "pedal to the metal" style of play is remarkably similar to........

.....Our Foxy!

In the manner of a friendly assassin, Stu has put many great players to the sword and done it with good humour and a few lagers  :D  Walsall and Luton Main Event cashes plus Ladbrokes Cruise and now a 3rd and 2nd at the WSOP confirm him as one of our greatest twenty-somethings. I, for one, will be present when he collects a bracelet in Nevada next year!

On a personal note. Stu and I were born in the same post code, so my pride in a guy who got Ed Giddins vote as "the player to watch" in 2006 is enormous.

Stand by to watch these 2 young Gladiators of the Felt in a big final somewhere soon! You will see some sparks fly for sure, but it will be the skillful poker playing that grabs the headlines.

Take a bow, gentlemen. You've earned it. Good guys, both on the table and off.

Mike

 :goodpost:

I have played with Stu many times, and he is a fearless opponent, the very style I for one find VERY VERY hard to play against, but I am learning.

Seriously, If I could ever be HALF as good as Richard or Stu, I will be VERY happy.

Congrats lads, fantastic performances!!!!
